Act of service that you can do to help future students: Own Your Hall Room
IIT Kharagpur has received unprecedented support from esteemed alumni for various IIT-KGP Developmental Projects over the years. Among all of the institute's initiatives, the Hall Development Campaign is one of the most well-supported campaigns among alumni. The Halls that they consider to be their second home, are always close to their hearts. It all started when Prof. Damodar Acharya, the former Director of IIT Kharagpur, donated to renovate the hall rooms where he stayed. The institute quickly realised that this would be a fantastic opportunity for alumni to leave their mark on their very own campus. Over the years, a hall room will have many occupants, and we know that many of them will contribute to the endowment. The donor of any particular hall room will be recognised by placing individual plaques in their name with batch and department which will be placed inside the room on a first come first serve basis.
With this noble idea, the Office of Alumni Affairs & Branding has launched a new campaign, OWN YOUR HALL ROOM. You can have your hall room named after you by donating INR 2.5L and paying maintenance fees every 5 years. This will allow current institute students to stay comfortably on campus as well.
Alumni Department Engagement Program
In order to raise money for various departmental campaigns and events, a new initiative was launched in 2018. The Alumni Department Engagement Program - ADEP program aims to reconnect alumni with their departments. This program assists alumni and departments with initiatives such as visiting faculty, special lectures, workshops, international and industry collaboration, PG and RS placement, internships, and live projects. For the first time in the institute's history, a geoscience seminar was held at the Geology and Geophysics Department thanks entirely to alumni contributions. In 2019, the alumni of the 1975 batch of Ocean Engineering & Naval Architecture came forward once more to support their department by raising INR 8 Lakh to build a state-of-the-art auditorium.
