How is Rank Calculated in the JEE Advanced Exam?

The JEE Advanced exam is held for Papers 1 & 2, each for 180 marks. The JEE Advanced question paper has MCQs, MSQs and Numerical questions from Physics, Chemistry and Maths. To allot ranks in JEE Advanced, the authorities take the total score, out of 360 marks. So, for calculating the scores in physics, the performance in both papers 1 and 2 will be considered. Same for chemistry and mathematics. The aggregate marks in JEE Advanced is the sum of the marks awarded to the candidate in physics, chemistry and mathematics. The JEE Advanced rank list is prepared based on the aggregate marks only. Candidates with higher scores will be awarded a higher rank.

Rules for Tie-breaking in JEE Advanced

In case two or more candidates obtain the same scores in JEE Advanced, a tie-breaking rule is applied to allocate different ranks to such students. The JEE Advanced tie-breaking rule is given below.

  • Step 1: One with more positive marks is given a higher rank.
  • Step 2: If there is still a tie, the scores in mathematics will be considered. If it is still the same, then the score in Physics will be considered. Even after this, if there is a tie, candidates will be awarded the same rank.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.
