Key Information on JEE Advanced 2026

Check below some important information on IIT JEE Advanced 2026:

  • Which IIT will conduct JEE Advanced 2026?
Going by the pattern in which IITs take turns to conduct the JEE Advanced exam each year, this year, the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) is expected to be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
  • What is the JEE Advanced 2026 exam date?
JEE Advanced 2026 exam is expected to be held in May 2026. The most probable dates of the JEE Advanced 2026 exam are May 17 or May 24, 2026.
  • What is the JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria?
JEE Advanced eligibility criteria stay the same year after year. However, there was a fiasco about the number of attempts for JEE Advanced in 2025 (read about it here). However, the attempt limit has been retained at two in two consecutive years. To attempt JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must:
    • Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2026.
    • Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2001. A five-year age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
    • A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
    • A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
    • A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT under any academic program.
  • JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Pattern and Syllabus
On one hand, the syllabus of JEE Advanced remains the same over the year, but the exam pattern is quite dynamic. Each year, there are some slight changes made to the exam pattern, and the catch is that the marking scheme, marks distribution, and number of questions are all informed to the candidates on the exam day and not beforehand. This adds to the difficulty level of the exam. (Read how IIT Kanpur changed the JEE Advanced pattern in 2025).

JEE Advanced syllabus includes 10+2 level topics from Maths, Physics and Chemistry. The detailed syllabus is published on the official website of the exam with all details. Until the details for 2026 are out, candidates can refer to the syllabus from the previous year, JEE Advanced 2025 syllabus PDF.

What is JEE Advanced?

JEE Advanced is a national-level engineering entrance exam for admission to the IITs. It is the second level of the IIT admission screening process, the first being JEE Mains. Top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Mains are allowed to register for JEE Advanced. Only those candidates who pass the Advanced level become eligible to apply for IIT admission via the JoSAA counselling process.

IITs offer the following courses to the JEE Advanced rank holders:

  • BTech in various Engineering disciplines.
  • BSc programs in Science.
  • BArch in Architecture.
  • Dual Degree programs like B.Tech-MTech and BS-MS.
  • Integrated MTech and Integrated MSc programs.

JEE Advanced 2026 Dates

How to Apply for JEE Advanced 2026?

The JEE Advanced 2026 application form will be released on the official website - jeeadv.ac.in. The application form will be available after the JEE Main 2026 session 2 results are out. The candidates who will be declared qualified for JEE Advanced 2026 have to fill up the JEE Advanced application form on the official website.

  • Since the JEE Advanced form can be filled by candidates who qualify the JEE Main 2026 cutoff, only such candidates can register for JEE Advanced. Candidates have to authenticate themselves using their JEE Main 2026 application number, their name and date of birth.
  • Next, Candidates have to furnish some details in the registration form, and some of the details will be pre-filled from the JEE Main 2026 database.

IIT Admission Process via JEE Advanced 2026

All candidates who will be declared qualified in the JEE Advanced 2026 result will have to register for a national-level centralised counselling called JoSAA. The Ministry of Education has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The JoSAA counselling process facilitates the allocation of seats for undergraduate engineering programs at the IITs. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks. Candidates have to register for the online JoSAA counselling and fill in their choices of IITs and ranches. The seat across all the IITs will be allotted considering the JEE Advanced 2026 ranks of the candidates and the choices they fill in the JoSAA counselling process.
