JEE Advanced 2026: IIT Roorkee has announced the JEE Advanced 2026 dates for registration, exam, answer key and result. As per the schedule, JEE Advanced 2026 exam date is May 17. JEE Advanced Application Form 2026 will be released on April 23 for Indian nationals, whereas for foreign candidates, registration will start on April 6, 2026.

  • What is the JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria?
    JEE Advanced eligibility criteria stay the same year after year. To attempt JEE Advanced 2026, candidates must:
    • Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the BE/BTech paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2026.
    • Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2001. A five-year age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
    • A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
    • A candidate should have appeared for the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
    • A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT under any academic program.
  • JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Pattern and Syllabus
    On one hand, the syllabus of JEE Advanced remains the same over the year, but the exam pattern is quite dynamic. Each year, there are some slight changes made to the exam pattern, and the catch is that the marking scheme, marks distribution, and number of questions are all informed to the candidates on the exam day and not beforehand.   • JEE Advanced syllabus includes class 12 level topics from Maths, Physics and Chemistry. The detailed syllabus has been published on the official website of the exam with all details.

What is JEE Advanced?

JEE Advanced is a national-level engineering entrance exam for admission to the IITs. It is the second level of the IIT admission screening process, the first being JEE Mains. Top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Mains are allowed to register for JEE Advanced. Only those candidates who pass the Advanced level become eligible to apply for IIT admission via the JoSAA counselling process.

There has been no update on any changes in the JEE Advanced 2026 attempt limits. If any changes are to be made in the attempt limit, the same will be officially notified at jeeadv.ac.in. Currently, the JEE Advanced attempt limit is twice in two consecutive years.

A:

The JEE Advanced exam pattern is dynamic. It changes every year. The only known aspect of the JEE Advanced exam pattern are:

  1. The number of papers: There are two papers - paper 1 and paper 2.
  2. The exam mode: The JEE Advanced exam is held in computer based test mode.
  3. Duration: The exam is held for 6 hours. Each paper is of 3 hours.
  4. Subjects: Each question papers has questions from three sections - Maths, Physics and Chemistry

The JEE Advanced exam pattern is dynamic and changes every year. The only information about the exam pattern that is permanent is:

  • Mode of exam: The exam is held in a computer-based test mode
  • Papers: JEE Advanced 2026 will have two papers - paper 1 and paper 2.
  • Subjects: Each paper of JEE Advanced 2026 will have questions from these subjects - Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Language: Questions in the JEE Advanced 2026 exam will be available in Hindi and English.

Types of questions in JEE Advanced exam: The marking scheme, number of questions and the question distributions change every year. Usually, there are the following types of questions asked in the exam:

  2.  Multiple Correct MCQs

The changing pattern of the JEE Advanced exam can be due to various reasons:

  • One of the reason can be to check how the students perform under pressure and how weel they adapt.
  • To check how the students can deal with problems and unfamiliar formats.
  • To eliminate the candidates who rote learn.

JEE Advanced is on the toughest exam for selection to the most premiere colleges of the nation - IITs. Therefore to add to the difficulty level, the pattern is kept undiclosed until the exam day.

  • Since the JEE Advanced form can be filled by candidates who qualify the JEE Main 2026 cutoff, only such candidates can register for JEE Advanced. Candidates have to authenticate themselves using their JEE Main 2026 application number, their name and date of birth.
  • Next, Candidates have to furnish some details in the registration form, and some of the details will be pre-filled from the JEE Main 2026 database.
  • Thereafter, candidates have to upload the required documents and pay the application fee online.

All candidates who will be declared qualified in the JEE Advanced 2026 result will have to register for a national-level centralised counselling called JoSAA. The Ministry of Education has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The JoSAA counselling process facilitates the allocation of seats for undergraduate engineering programs at the IITs. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks. Candidates have to register for the online JoSAA counselling and fill in their choices of IITs and ranches. No, candidates can not raise objections in JEE Adv result. The facility to raise objection is provided only in the answer key. It is clearly mentioned in the IIT JEE advanced 2026 information brochure that any request to re-evaluate in result will not be entertained under any circumstances.

No, same questions never get repeated in IIT JEE exam. However, questions with similar concepts can find places in the exam. The question paper of JEE Advanced is prepared considering the syllabus and exam pattern.

You will not be eligible for admission as preparatory ranks are not considered under round 1. Since you have already qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), all you need to do is meet the second criterion and apply for round 2, which will be only conducted if seats from round 1 remain vacant.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.
