To know what are the certain aspects that every student checks before getting enrolled in any institution, Shiksha.com talked to a number of students in this regard. Based on their replies, the following are the factors that all students must check before taking admission into an engineering institution.
- Brand reputation of College
- Placements & Research Opportunities
- Specialisation of their choice available or not
- Location
- Influencers (Coaching centre mentor/ friends/ relatives)
Brand reputation of College
A good reputation of any college/institution/university among education fraternity is very much needed as it helps in building credibility for a course and trust among the students. In addition to that, the reputation helps the institute to start new courses in collaboration with other universities from across the globe. More global collaborations also help the university/institute to improve its ranking and make a name among the top global academic institutions.
Placements & Research Opportunities
Though placements and research opportunities are two totally different aspects in the case of candidates aspiring to pursue MTech, both must be taken into consideration together. It is so, a majority opt for placement into the companies that help them to pursue research on the topic relevant to their stream. Placements leading to better research opportunities help the students to use their knowledge in developing innovative products/tools for mankind. A good number of students also look for a job based on their qualifications.
Faculty Reputation
Faculty reputation is also one of the key parameters that every student looks for while choosing any college for further studies. Students consider all permanent, visiting, and guest faculties in the college delivering lectures to the students. A list of renowned faculties in a college/university helps it to develop a good repo among the students. It is considered that such faculties help in developing a good learning environment in the university/college.
Specialisation of their choice available or not
In the case of MTech, specialisation does matter. After completing their graduation, students like to pursue a course that not only enhances their skills but also help them in having a successful professional life ahead. For example, most of the students are nowadays opting for specialisation in Artificial Intelligence after completing their BTech in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) or Information Technology (IT). As per the students, specialisation in trending streams will help them to be employable.
Location
It is a myth that the location of a college matter to any student. The location of any college matters to students only in the condition when it is not the reputed one. If a college is having a good name, good faculty members, and good placement opportunities, then students will join it despite thinking that where it is located. Students consider the location of the college/university with average or below average brand reputations.
Influencers (Coaching centre mentor/ friends/ relatives)
Students also listen to the advice of their Coaching centre mentors, friends, relatives, and parents before choosing a college. Basically, candidates get influenced by the opinion of the aforementioned individuals and chose the college accordingly. It is a very important thing to be mentioned here as a good number of admissions are done based on this.
All these aforesaid factors will help the candidates to decide a college out of the ones that they may likely to get based on their ranks in the GATE 2021. Candidates must be very careful while choosing a stream as well. It must be decided based on their interest. It will help them excel in that engineering stream.
