Admission for Indian nations to NLU Delhi will be based on AILET 2026 scores.

The entrance exam accepted for admission to the BA LLB and LLM courses at the NLU Delhi is AILET. No other entrance exam is accepted for the admission to the institute. Candidates appearing in any other Law entrance exam such as CLAT, MHCET Law, SLAT, will have to appear for the AILET to increase their scope of admission to NLU Delhi.

AILET 2026 Result, Counselling & Seat Allotment
NLU Delhi announced the AILET 2026 Result on December 18, 2025. Based on the AILET 2026 scores, candidates are shortlisted and get invites for AILET counseling. As mentioned in the official AILET notification, NLU Delhi is holding four rounds of seat allotment by releasing four provisional AILET merit lists. AILET 2026 Seat Matrix for SC/ST Category
To apply for seats under the SC and ST categories, candidates must show a valid certificate issued by the proper authorities. The certificate should be given by any of the following officers:
- District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Collector, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Collector, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, City Magistrate (not below the rank of 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluk Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, or Extra Assistant Commissioner
- Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate, or Presidency Magistrate
- Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar
- Administrator, Secretary to the Administrator, or Development Officer (Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands)
AILET 2026: Filling Remaining seats
- Filling of vacant SC/ST seats - In case there are any unfilled seats reserved for the SC category, then these seats will be converted to the ST category and vice versa. Also, vacant seats in these two categories will not be offered to any other reserved category.
- Conversion of SC/ST seats to General-category seats - If SC (or ST) seats remain vacant even after converting to ST (or SC), then such seats will be treated as GENERAL category seats. These seats will then be filled according to the AILET 2026 result.
OBC category - Issuing Authority, Deadline
22% of seats are reserved for OBCs (Non-Creamy Layer) Category. To be considered for admission under this category, the candidate must possess a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued by any of the following authorities:
- District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Collector, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Collector, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, City Magistrate (not below the rank of 1st class Stipendiary Magistrate), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Executive Magistrate.
- Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate
- Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and
- Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.
EWS category - Issuing Authority, Deadline
10% of seats are reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
To be considered under the EWS category, the candidate needs to furnish a valid Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The list of competent issuing authorities is given below.
- District Magistrate/ Additional District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner
- Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate
- Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and
- Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.
PwD category - Issuing Authority
A horizontal reservation of 5% is available for candidates belonging to the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category. Reservation of seats is done by the provisions of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016‟.
To be eligible for this category, the candidate must possess a valid PwD certificate issued by the competent authority as per the provisions of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 will be eligible to apply under this category."
Kashmiri Migrants (KM)
One supernumerary seat each for the BA LLB and LLM programs.
Kashmiri Migrants, including Kashmiri Pandits/Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) who are living in the Kashmir Valley, are eligible for admission under this category. 1 seat is earmarked under the KM category.
Since the Kashmiri Migrant quota is supernumerary, it will not be converted to any other category even if the seats stay unfilled.
The candidate needs to submit a valid certificate issued by the competent authority.
Residents of Jammu and Kashmir
Two supernumerary seats for the BA LLB program are earmarked for Residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
Applicants under this category have to produce a valid certificate issued by the competent authority at the time of provisional admission.
Further, since the seats in this category are supernumerary, they will not be converted to any other category.
Provisional Admission - Important Instructions
- The category certificate(s) have to be produced in the original at the time of provisional admission. If the candidate fails to do so, no provisional admission will be granted. Further, the certificate should invariably be in the name of the candidate himself/herself.
- If seats reserved for the PwD category remain vacant, such seats will be offered to the candidates of the respective category from which horizontal reservation has been provided.
- The unfilled seats under the Foreign National Category will be carried over to the General Category and filled on Merit.
- A Horizontal reservation of 30% of the entirety shall be filled by eligible women candidates, including those selected in reserved and foreign national categories.

While the CLAT Exam is held for NLUs, it is not for NLU Delhi. So, candidates who wish to get admission at NLU Delhi will have to clear AILET Exam and score expected cutoff.

Getting 79 in AILET is kind of a fair score, but it depends on how hard the exam was that year. Sometimes the cutoff goes high, sometimes low. For general category, top ranks usually need around 85 or more. Still, your AILET 2026 score of 79 might stand close if the paper was tough overall.

No, the presidency university do not accept AILET Score. Candidates have to appear either for PULAT or CLAT to get admission in the law courses offered by the varsity. Without it you can not get admission.

The last date to submit the AILET counselling fee was December 27, 2025. The candidates who get the invitation to participate in the AILET counselling have to pay the counselling registration fee before the last date.
