What is KEAM?

Kerala Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM) is a state-level exam conducted by Commission of Entrance Examination (CEE). The exam is held annually to offer admission to interested candidates in Medical, Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Fisheries, Engineering, Architecture & Pharmacy courses at various government and private colleges in Kerala. KEAM 2021 rank list for MBBS Courses will be prepared on the basis of rank obtained in NEET-UG 2021 subject to the Nativity conditions. Some of the seats on offer through KEAM 2021 are meant for reserved category candidates as per norms of the state government. To qualify and thereby become eligible to figure in the rank list for MBBS, candidates must obtain a minimum of 50th percentile in NEET UG 2021.

Rank list contains names of all qualified candidates along with the ranks.

Rectify or clear the defects if any and submit ranks until


All those candidates whose results have been withheld can fill the options. However, such candidates will not be considered for allotment unless they rectify or clear the defects and release their ranks.

KEAM 2021 Eligibility

  • The eligibility criteria of KEAM 2021 has been released by CEE Kerala.
  • The authority has set various parameters for candidates applying for the state level common entrance test. The eligibility criteria of KEAM  2021. Failing to comply with the same, candidates will not be allowed to appear for KEAM 2021 exam.
  • The eligibility criteria for KEAM 2021 will be based on the following parameters namely age, KEAM streamwise eligibility, and nationality & KEAM native criteria.
  • The minimum eligibility criteria to appear for KEAM is possessing a valid pass certificate in class 12 examination. However, OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) and PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) candidates are also eligible to apply.

KEAM Eligibility: Age requirement

Only those candidates are eligible to appear for the entrance exam who have completed 17 years of age as on December 31, 2021. Candidates shall not be awarded any relaxation in the minimum age requirement. There is no upper age limit to apply for KEAM 2021.

Out of the total seats available for admissions in various courses through this entrance exam, some seats will be reserved for different categories. 

KEAM Eligibility: Education qualification

The minimum eligibility criteria are that a candidate should have passed Class 12 with science subjects.

Check the MBBS course eligibility criteria below:

  • Candidates who have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually at the Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala or examinations recognised equivalent thereto and obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology are eligible. 
  • In the case of MBBS/BDS courses, candidates belonging to SC/ST or SEBC, the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-Technology have taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40% instead of 50%. In respect of candidates, included in the PwD quota the list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-Technology taken together in qualifying examinations shall be 45% instead of 50%. 

KEAM Nationality Criteria

Only India citizens are eligible to apply for KEAM. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card Holders shall be treated at par with Indian citizens for the purpose of admission. However, PIO/OCI candidates will not be eligible to claim any relaxation meant for reserved category candidates.

Indian citizens will further be classified as Keralites and Non-Keralites on the following basis:

Nativity for Keralite

KEAM 2021 eligibility criteria state that candidates who are of Kerala origin shall be categorised as a Keralite for the purpose of admission. Here, candidates whose parents are All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre also fall in this category. However, such candidates should produce a certificate from the competent authority showing that their parent/parents are AIS officer allotted to Kerala cadre. But they will not be eligible for Communal/Special/Persons with Disabilities reservation or any fee concession.

Nativity for Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

A candidate who is not from Kerala origin but fulfils any one of the below-mentioned eligibility criteria will be categorised as 'Non-Keralite Category I':

  • Has been a resident of Kerala State for a period of five years within the period of 12 years of study and is a non-Keralite
  • Studied in Kerala from Class 8 to 12 and is not of Kerala Origin
  • Studied 10+2 in Kerala and whose parents are Non- Keralites belonging to the Government of India/Defence Service, posted to Kerala
  • Has studied 10+2 in Kerala and whose parents are Non- Keralites serving/served Government of Kerala for a minimum period of two years including the period of study of the qualifying exam

Nativity for Non-Keralite Category-II (NK II)

KEAM eligibility criteria further state that candidates who are not from the ‘Keralite’ or ‘Non- Keralite Category-I’ shall be considered as ‘Non-Keralite Category-II'.

Documents to prove nativity for KEAM 2021

Candidates will be required to produce valid documents in order to prove their nativity as a Kerala resident. The documents have to be submitted at the time of the KEAM counselling process.

Find the below list of documents required to prove nativity for KEAM 2021: 


Candidates will have to submit the following documents in order to prove that they are a native of Kerala.

  • A copy of SSLC certificate
  • A copy of SSLC certificate of either of the parents
  • A copy of the Passport of the candidate or either of his/her parents
  • Birth Certificate of the candidate
  • Certificate from Village Officer/Tehsildar
  • Certificate from competent authority showing either of the parents is an All India Service Officer

Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

Candidates will have to submit the following documents in order to prove that they belong to Non-Keralite Category I (NK I)

  • Certificate from the Head of Organisation where the parents of the candidate are working, and a Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the candidate is studying
  • Certificate from the Village Officer showing that the candidate is a resident of Kerala for a period of five years
  • Certificate from the Head of the Institution showing that the candidate has undergone schooling from Class 8 to 12

Non-Keralite Category II (NK II)

Candidates will have to bring “Certificate of Completion of Qualifying examination “in order to prove that they belong to the following category and also a copy of Passport

What are the changes in KEAM?

KEAM was initially conducted for admission in Engineering, Architecture and Medical courses offered at colleges of Kerala. With NEET becoming the national level medical/dental entrance test, KEAM medical exam has been discontinued.

KEAM 2021 Exam Day Guidelines

Candidates appearing for KEAM 2021 are recommended to follow the below-mentioned exam day guidelines to avoid any last-minute hassle:

What to carry on Exam Day?

  • Admit card: It is a mandatory document that the candidates must carry to the exam centre on the day of the test. It may be noted that a candidate without a valid KEAM admit card will not be allowed to enter the exam hall.
  • Photo ID proof: Candidates must also carry an original photo ID proof for verification. Valid ID proof can be any document containing a candidate’s name and photo such as PAN card, Aadhaar card, voter ID card, passport, etc.
  • Ballpoint pen and a cardboard/clipboard: Candidates are also allowed to carry ballpoint pens (either in black or blue ink) and a cardboard/clipboard to the examination hall.

What not to carry on Exam Day?

  • Candidates must not carry any textual material or things such as calculator, electronics watch, slide rule, log table, mobile phone and pager inside the exam hall.

KEAM 2021 Admission Process

Candidates willing to apply for KEAM 2021 need to follow six steps in order to complete the KEAM admission process. The below steps will guide candidates right from the online registrations for KEAM till the final seat allotment process.

KEAM 2020 Admission Process

STEP 1: KEAM Registration 2021/ Filling the online application form

  • The very first step for candidates to appear for KEAM 2021 exam is to register online on the official website.
  • On successful registrations, candidates will be asked to fill KEAM application form in order to complete the registration process.

STEP 2: KEAM Admit card

  • CEE the conducting body of KEAM will be releasing the exam admit card.
  • KEAM admit card is a mandatory document which needs to be carried to KEAM test centre
  • Candidates who do not carry KEAM hall ticket issued by CEE will not be allowed to write the exam under any circumstances

STEP 3: Appear for KEAM 2021 exam

  • Students need to appear for KEAM 2021 as per the schedule mentioned in the exam hall ticket.
  • Aspirants are advised to reach the exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of the exam

STEP 4: KEAM Results

  • The results for KEAM will be declared by CEE in the due course. The actual KEAM result date will be out in due time.
  • Candidates will be able to check KEAM results on the official website of CEE after release.

 STEP 5: KEAM Counselling

After the announcement of KEAM results, candidates whose names appear in the merit list released by CEE will be allowed to participate in the exam counselling. KEAM counselling process will be organized to verify the documents produced by candidates. On successful verification of documents, candidates will then be allotted seat basis their preferences and the availability on the same.

Q. When will KEAM 2021 dates be announced?

A. KEAM exam dates will be announced by the CEE Kerala in online mode. The KEAM 2021 exam for pharmacy will be held in the official website.

Q. When will KEAM registration 2021 be started?

A. The KEAM 2021 registration will be started by the authority tentatively in February.

Q. When will the CEE Kerala release KEAM 2021 rank list?

A. The rank list of KEAM 2021 will be released by CEE Kerala separately for MBBS course. Candidates will be offered seats on the basis of NEET UG 2021.

Q. Which are the courses offered by CEE in KEAM?

A. CEE will allot seats to the following courses in KEAM: Engineering, Architecture, MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda, Homoeo, Siddha, Unani, Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Fisheries and Pharmacy.

Q. Does CEE release KEAM 2021 cutoffs after each round of counselling?

A. Yes, the authority will release the cutoff after each round of KEAM 2021 counselling in online mode. The cutoff is different for each of the colleges/institutes, course and category of students.

Q. Is CEE office conducting Medical Entrance Examination? 

A. There is no state-level entrance examination for medical and architecture courses conducted by this office. The entrance examination is conducted only for Engineering and BPharm courses. Admission to medical courses will be conducted based on the NEET (UG) Rank. Those candidates who wish to be considered for the seat allotment in medical courses in Kerala State should qualify NEET. Likewise, if a candidate wants to be considered for the allotment in Architecture course, qualifying NATA (National Aptitude Test) is required. However, candidates interested in Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical and Architecture courses have to apply for KEAM.

Q. I want to study an Ayurveda course in Kerala. Do I need to appear for NEET examination?

A. In Kerala, admission to all medical courses including Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Agricultural, Fisheries, Unani, Veterinary, Sidha etc. will be based on the NEET ranks. So those candidates who wish to be considered for the allotment in medical courses should be qualified in NEET and are required to apply for KEAM.

Q. I belong to General category. Is it required to submit Income certificate?

A. It is advisable to submit income certificates by all candidates, except for those belonging to SC/ST category. Those (including General Category) who wish to avail the benefits such as fee concession/scholarships that may be notified by the Government or college authorities subsequently, based on annual family income, should furnish the income certificate (in the specified format) along with the KEAM application form.

Q. What are the certificates that must be submitted to prove nativity?

A. Candidates can submit any one of the following documents/certificates for satisfying their nativity requirements:

  • Certificate to prove nativity for Keralites
  • A true copy of the relevant page of SSLC of the candidate showing their place of birth in Kerala (self-attested copy of this certificate has to be attached separately)

Q. For how many rounds KEAM 2021 counselling be held?

A. The counselling of KEAM 2021 will be held in three rounds.

Q. Is there any MOP-up round for KEAM Counselling?

A. Yes, an extra round of KEAM counselling called MOP round is being held after three rounds of counselling.

KEAM 2022 Exam Centers

KEAM Centres 2020 – Candidates who have applied for admission to Kerala Engineering, Pharmacy courses for the year 2020-21, through the website of the Commissioner for the Entrance examination could change their exam centres from June 20 (10 am) to June 27, till 4 pm.

Candidates who have already opted exam centres outside Kerala such as Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai can either interchange these centres or can select centres inside Kerala. Similarly, those candidates who have already opted exam centres inside Kerala can also change their exam centre to outside Kerala. Changes in examination centres within Kerala among different district will not be allowed. 

The exam conducting body, Commissioner of Entrance Examination has released the list of KEAM test centres where the exam will be conducted. Candidates who register for KEAM 2020 will be able to check the test centres allotted to them on the official website. Candidates will need their KEAM login details including their KEAM application number and displayed security code in order to check the exam test centres.

Students, while applying for KEAM 2020, were given an option to select any of the KEAM centres from the given list. CEE allotted examination city to the aspirants in order of the choice provided by them in their application form. However, due to administrative reasons, a different city or nearby area may be allotted.

Please note that the decision of CEE regarding allotment of KEAM test centres, date and shift will be final. No further correspondence or request will be entertained in such a case.

KEAM 2020 has been postponed across 14 centres in Kerala and in New Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai. Candidates who will opt for Dubai as KEAM exam centre have to remit an additional fee of Rs 12,000 via DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, at Thiruvananthapuram, along with the printed application form.
