National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has provided the details of the FMGE 2026 exam pattern for October session in the information bulletin. FMGE 2026 application form will be available online till September 25, 2026.

FMGE exam pattern includes details about exam mode, duration, number of questions and paper structure. The exam is divided into two papers. There will be 150 questions in one paper. Candidates will get 150 minutes to complete one paper. The FMGE 2026 exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. NBEMS will also provide a demo test to help candidates know exam process.

Q:   How many questions will be asked in FMGE exam?
A: 

According to the official notification, a total of 300 questions are asked in the FMGE exam. Though students will have to solve 150-150 questions seperately. There will be a time interval between both these exams. The nature of questions which will be asked in the FMGE exam will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). 

Q:   When will FMGE 2026 October exam be conducted?
A: 

The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences will conduct the FMGE 2026 exam on October 31, 2026.

FMGE 2026 Exam Pattern: Subject-wise Distribution of Marks

The FMGE examination will be conducted in two sessions. Both sessions will have different question papers with unique subjects. The first paper of the FMGE 2026 exam will have questions on pre and para-clinical topics and the second paper will have questions on Clinical subject topics. Q:   How many questions are asked from Anatomy in FMGE exam?
A: 

Overall there will be 100 questions asked in the exam from Pre and Para Clinical Subject. Out of these 100 questions around 17 questions will be based on Anatomy section. Along with it, the same 17 questions will be asked from Physiology and Biochemistry sections as well. 

Students are advised to attempt all the questions which are asked in the exam as it does not have negative marking scheme.

Yes, you can download the FMGE scorecard even if you did not clear the examination. This will help you analyse the areas where you lost marks. The FMGE 2025 scorecard is available to download even after the declaration of the FMGE 2025 results. 

Q:   Will there be negative marking in FMGE 2026?
A: 

No, there shall be NO negative marking for the incorrect answers in FMGE 2025 exam. The FMGE exam promotes candidates to attempt as many question as they can to enhance their probability to score high. A total of 300 questions will be asked in the exam. The exam will be held in English language only.

Q:   Is there any sectional time limit in the FMGE exam?
A: 

As per the directive of NBE there is no sectional time limit to attempt different sections of the FMGE question paper. Candidates will get overall 5 hours to attempt 300 questions in the exam. Candidates can switch between the sections to attempt the questions. 

Q:   What will be the total marks for FMGE exam?
A: 

There are a total two papers for which FMGE exam is being conducted. Each paper is being conducted for 150 marks each. In total FMGE exam will be conducted for a total of 300 marks.

Q:   Has the FMGE exam pattern changed?

No official announcement was made regarding the changes/modifications in the FMGE exam pattern for the upcoming exam cycle. In case any changes will be there, it will be updated for the aspirants. Applicants are advised to prepare for the exam as per the previous exam pattern of FMGE. 

Q:   What is the FMGE exam?
A: 
FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a licensing examination conducted by the NBE (National Board of Examinations). An Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who has completed their primary medical qualification from an institution outside India, but wishes to practice in India needs to clear this examination to register with the NMC (National Medical Commission)/SMC (State Medical Council). However, as Foreign Medical Graduate Examination was introduced in the year 2002, students who had completed their primary degree course on or before March 15, 2002, are not required to appear for this examination. One must also note that Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is not an entrance test and cannot be used to take admission to any institute. FMGE is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates. The exam is held twice a year, in June and December. If someone is not able to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination exam in December, they can attempt it in the June session.
Q:   What are the career opportunities after passing FMGE exam?

Medical students who want to make a career in MD/ MS/ Diploma after completing their MBBS from abroad needs to appear and qualify FMGE exam. 

Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) is an important exam required to practice in India. The NBEMS conducts this exam twice a year in June and December. 

Q:   What is success rate in FMGE exam?
A: 

There are around 35- 40 thousands student participate in the FMGE exam every year. According to the previous year FMGE result statistics, the number of candidates who qualify and secure the FMGE certificates every session is between 20 - 30 %. Though this data can be changed if the number of applicants or difficulty level of exam changes drastically. 

Last year in 2023 a total of 38,355 applicants participate and the FMGE passing percentage was 23%

Q:   What is the cutoff for FMGE exam?
A: 

The cutoff marks are the minimum marks which applicants need to secure to pass the exam. There are various factors which determine the cutoff marks of FMGE exam. Since FMGE exam is conducted for a total of 300 marks hence applicants need to secure the minimum passing marks.  

Q:   What are the passing marks for FMGE result?
A: 

To qualify for FMGE 2026 June session exam, a candidate will have to score 150 or more marks in the examination. The exact number of FMGE cutoff will remain same irrespective of the results of FMGE 2026.  

The passing marks will remain same for both June and December session. The FMGE cutoff don't very according to the number of candidates who appear in the exam. 

 

Q:   Will there be any subjective type questions in FMGE ?
A: 

No. The FMGE 2026 exam pattern clearly states that the question paper will only have multiple choice/objective types questions. There will be 300 questions for which 5 hours will be allotted to the candidates. Each question will have a weightage of 1 mark. There will be NO negative marking in the exam. 

Q:   Can I appear for FMGE exam in Hindi language or any other regional language?
A: 

No, the FMGE exam is conducted only in English medium. A candidate cannot appear for the FMGE 2025 exam in any other regional language. Unlike other competitive exams, there is no other medium of language introduced on this entrance exam.

Q:   Is it necessary to attempt all the questions in FMGE ?
A: 

No, it is not mandatory to solve all questions as per the FMGE exam pattern. There is no negative marking in the examination; therefore, candidates can solve as many questions as possible without having to worry about the negative marking. No marks will be deducted if questions are left unattempted. 

Q:   What are the specifications of the photograph that needs to be pasted on the FMGE admit card?
A: 

The specifications of the photograph are mentioned in the application brochure and website as well. Candidates can check and upload the photograph accordingly. Just remember that the passport-size picture must not be older than 6 months. The photo pasted on the admit card must be the same as uploaded on the website at the time of applying for the FMGE exam.

No, they are exempt. Under the current regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC), medical qualifications granted by recognised universities in UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are exempt. They do not need to appear in FMGE Exam.
