How Many Attempts Are Allowed for the FMGE Exam?
There is no limit on the number of attempts a student can take to appear for the FMGE exam. NBEMS allows students to avail themselves of the medical license if they wish to practice the medical profession in India. Therefore, there is no limit or restriction on the FMGE attempts allowed for students.
However, in case a student has cleared the exam and has received the medical license, then the student will not be allowed to appear for the exam. The FMGE license is valid for a lifetime, and aspirants need to repeatedly appear for the exam to avail it.

The NBEMS released a total of 47 cities which are available while filling the application form of FMGE 2025. The FMGE exam centre list is mentioned in the admit card. Applicants are advised to check the details mentioned in the FMGE admit card 2025, and in case of any concerns, the students need to contact the authorities.
All the applicants who appear in the FMGE exam and secure a total of 150 marks out of the total 300 marks are declared FMGE qualified candidates.
Last year in 2023, a total 38,355 candidates, appeared for the FMGE exam. Out of the total participated in the exam, 30,046 students failed and only 8309 could pass this exam. The passing percentage was around 23%.
Candidates are advised to complete their MBBS degree programme by October 31. and must submit a proof of passing the same while applying for the FMGE exam.
If any applicants fail to substantiate their claim of having passed the primary medical qualification by the above mentioned prescribed cut off date with supportive documents, his/her candidature shall be cancelled.

Who is Eligible to Apply for the FMGE exam?

- They must be Indian citizens or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Only these people can apply for the FMGE exam.
- Students must have a basic medical degree. This degree should be approved by the Indian Embassy in that country.
- The applicants must also give proof of their medical degree. If they do not give the required papers on time, they cannot appear for the FMGE exam.
- They must have an Eligibility Certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the former Medical Council of India (MCI).
- The result of the final exam for the basic medical qualification will be announced online.
FMGE Exam - Exceptions for students
A students seeking provisional or permanent registration in India shall not have to qualify for the Screening Test if he/she holds an Under Graduate medical qualification from Australia/Canada/New Zealand/United Kingdom/United States of America and the holder thereof has also been awarded a Post Graduate medical qualification in Australia/Canada/New Zealand/ United Kingdom/United States of America and has been recognised for enrolment as a medical practitioner in that country.

About the Exam
FMGE December 2026 Exam Pattern
The FMGE December 2026 exam will be held on a computer. The exam will be conducted online at test centres. The language of the exam is English only. Students cannot choose any other language for the exam. The exam has a total of 300 multiple‑choice questions. All questions are of an objective type. The exam will be held in two shifts on the same day. Each shift has a time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Students can move freely between all sections during the exam. There is no fixed time limit for any single section.
FMGE Marking Scheme
All questions in the FMGE exam pattern carry equal marks. Each correct answer gives one mark, and there is no negative marking in the FMGE question paper. No marks are cut for wrong answers, and the exam is conducted in two parts, called Part A and Part B. Each part has a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
FMGE Passing Criteria
According to the guidelines given by NBEMS, students must score well to pass. A student needs at least 50 per cent marks to qualify for the FMGE exam. Only students who score the required marks will pass the exam. These students will receive the FMGE certificate after qualifying.
