The CTET normalisation of marks will ensure a fair evaluation of candidates' performance. The 15th edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) was held online from December 16, 2021, to January 21, 2022, as a computer-based test (CBT).

What is the Normalisation Method?

Normalisation is a process to adjust the values that are measured on different scales to a common scale. It process is used to normalise the values or scores by bringing all the variables to the same range.

The normalisation of marks or scores is done to evaluate the performance of all the candidates by adjusting the difficulty level across all the exam shifts. It brings the result of all candidates at an equal level considering the difference in the difficulty level of various shifts of the exam.

The normalisation process is used in various exams that are conducted in multiple shifts such as UGC NET, CSIR NET, etc.

How will CBSE Normalise the CTET marks?

Though the CBSE has yet not revealed the details of the CTET normalisation of marks or scores, it is likely that the percentile score method will be used to normalise the scores.

The percentile score is derived based on the relative performance of all the candidates who appear for the exam in different shifts or sessions. Under this method, the scores fetched by candidates in a particular shift are converted into a 100-0 scale. The topper of each shift gets the same percentile, which is 100, and the highest and lowest scores are also converted into percentiles.

For instance, if a topper of shift 1 obtains 180 marks and the topper of shift 2 obtains 150 marks, then the candidate with 150 marks is considered equal to the one who obtained 180 and the marks of every candidate are increased proportionally.

The CBSE will soon officially announce the details of the normalisation method.

How will the Normalisation affect the CTET Scores of the Candidates?

The CTET normalisation process 2021-22 will ensure that the candidates are evaluated fairly on a balanced parameter to declare the CTET result 2021-2022. For instance, it might be possible that Candidate A who appeared in Shift 1 found the paper easy in comparison to Candidate B who took Shift 2 and was allotted a bit more difficult set of CTET question papers. This might end up lowering the scores of Candidate B. To prevent such a situation, the CBSE will use the normalisation of scores to deal with the variations in the difficulty level of question papers. This will help the board in a fair evaluation of candidates' performance.

CTET Cutoff Marks 2022 Parameters

The CBSE has not fixed or declared the CTET cut off marks since the conduct of the CTET exam. However, if the board uses the normalisation of scores, it may be possible that CTET cut off 2022 will be announced. The CTET cut off will be announced on the basis of the following parameters:
