What is FMGE Exam?

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or FMGE, introduced through Screening Test Regulations 2002, is a screening examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) annually to check the eligibility of candidates who obtained their MBBS or equivalent degree from any foreign country.

FMGE certification is required to obtain the license to practice in India (for such candidates). Applicants must also note that FMGE is not an entrance test and cannot be used to seek admission to any institute. It is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates.

The NBEMS will conduct the exam online as a Computer-Based Test. It is a screening exam and the Board will award the FMGE 2026 Pass Certificate after the declaration of the result. Only those students will be declared qualified who will secure at least 150 marks out of 300.

The FMGE Results (Pass/Fail) for eligible candidates have been displayed on the NBEMS website. There is no provision for re-totalling/re-evaluation/ award of grace marks in the exam. To qualify the exam, the candidate must score 150 marks (50 per cent) out of 300. Such candidates who clear the exam become eligible to obtain a provisional registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the State Medical Council (SMC).

FMGE 2026 Certificates

The NBEMS will soon award the FMGE 2026 certificate to qualified candidates only. The Board will soon notify the dates for the in-person collection of FMGE 2026 certificate. The applicants will be required to collect this certificate in person. The authority will also verify the candidate's academic certificates before issuing the certificate.

FMGE 2026 Cutoff Marks

The FMGE exam is a screening exam only and the candidates who secure 150 or more marks in the exam will be declared as qualified to get the FMGE certificate and the MCI registration certificate to practice in India. These qualifying marks are popularly known as the FMGE cutoff.
