Overview

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has released the Foreign Medical Graduates Exam 2026 information bulletin on its official website - nbe.edu.in. The Board notified all the information related to eligibility, dates, qualifying criteria, syllabus and pattern in the brochure. The candidates are advised to read it before filling the FMGE Registration form. The last date to apply online for the FMGE 2026 is May 11. 

The Board will also provide the application correction facility to the candidates from May 16 to 18. The candidates will be allowed to make changes in the images (uploaded during the application process) from May 21 to June 10. The City Intimation will be released on June 17 and the admit card will be released on June 24. The NBEMS will conduct the exam online as a Computer-Based Test on June 28. It is a screening exam and the Board will award the FMGE 2026 Pass Certificate after the declaration of the result. Only those students will be declared qualified who will secure at least 150 marks out of 300.

What is FMGE Exam?

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or FMGE, introduced through Screening Test Regulations 2002, is a screening examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) annually to check the eligibility of candidates who obtained their MBBS or equivalent degree from any foreign country.

FMGE certification is required to obtain the license to practice in India (for such candidates). Applicants must also note that FMGE is not an entrance test and cannot be used to seek admission to any institute. It is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates.

Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) is an important exam required to practice in India. The NBEMS conducts this exam twice a year in June and December. 

Q:   What is success rate in FMGE exam?
A: 

There are around 35- 40 thousands student participate in the FMGE exam every year. According to the previous year FMGE result statistics, the number of candidates who qualify and secure the FMGE certificates every session is between 20 - 30 %. Though this data can be changed if the number of applicants or difficulty level of exam changes drastically. 

Last year in 2023 a total of 38,355 applicants participate and the FMGE passing percentage was 23%

Q:   What is the FMGE exam?
A: 
FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a licensing examination conducted by the NBE (National Board of Examinations). An Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who has completed their primary medical qualification from an institution outside India, but wishes to practice in India needs to clear this examination to register with the NMC (National Medical Commission)/SMC (State Medical Council). However, as Foreign Medical Graduate Examination was introduced in the year 2002, students who had completed their primary degree course on or before March 15, 2002, are not required to appear for this examination. One must also note that Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is not an entrance test and cannot be used to take admission to any institute. FMGE is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates. The exam is held twice a year, in June and December. If someone is not able to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination exam in December, they can attempt it in the June session.
Q:   What are the specifications of the photograph that needs to be pasted on the FMGE admit card?
A: 

The specifications of the photograph are mentioned in the application brochure and website as well. Candidates can check and upload the photograph accordingly. Just remember that the passport-size picture must not be older than 6 months. The photo pasted on the admit card must be the same as uploaded on the website at the time of applying for the FMGE exam.

Q:   Will FMGE exam held in offline mode?
A: 

No. FMGE 2026 exam will be held in computer-based mode. Each candidate will be provided a separate desktop at exam centre. Questions will have to be answered on screen. Registrations will be open on official website to submit application form for exam. 

Q:   Will FMGE pass certificate be issued online or offline?
A: 

FMGE pass certificate are issued offline. Those who qualified FMGE June session 2026 will have to be in-person at the office of NBE to collect the certificate. 

The authorities will issue FMGE certificates in offline mode only. Students are advised to download the certificate from the official website. The official dates for FMGE certificates for June session are yet to be out and it will be updated once it is out. 

Q:   Can I apply for the FMGE exam without having MBBS degree?
A: 

No, Students who want to appear & qualify FMGE exam must have a MBBS degree. FMGE exam is conducted for the students who completed their MBBS degree from abroad and they want to practise in India. Though there are certain countries like UK, USA, Austraila, Canada & New Zeland, students passed from these countries don't need to appear in FMGE exam to practise in India. 

Q:   Does NBE conduct FMGE exam twice a year?
A: 

Yes, NBEMS conducts the FMGE exam two times in a year, which are June and December session. Candidates have to register online and submit an application form for FMGE exam. Registration can be done on the official website, nbe.edu.in by providing basic details. Apart from registration, FMGE application process comprises filling details in the application form, uploading documents in right size and dormat, paying application fee etc.

The NBEMS has released the information bulletin and provided the list of documents and things required for the application form. The candidates can fill the form in the manner stated in the brochure. The applicants can follow the process given below.

  1. Go to natboard.edu.in.
  2. Choose “FMGE 2026 June Session”
  3. Click on “New Registration”
  4. Read the instructions and close the window
  5. Enter the following details
    • Student’s name
    • Date of Birth
    • Gender
    • Nationality
    • Mobile number
    • Alternate mobile number
    • Email Id
    • Enter Captcha and Submit
  6. Application number and password will be generated and sent to the registered email
  7. Log in using the above details
  8. Go to Applications
  9. Fill the FMGE 2026 form
  10. Pay the exam fee
  11. Submit the form

The application fee, once paid, will not be refunded under any conditions.

The application fee for FMGE 2026 is released along with the official information brochure. The FMGE application fee will be announced soon on official notification. FMGE registration fee is INR 5250 + 18 per cent GST.

So total amount will be INR 6,195. Candidates will have to pay the registration fee to submit the application form for FMGE. The registration fee is nonrefundable if your application is rejected due to any reason.

Q:   What is size of photograph which needs to be uploaded while doing FMGE registration?
A: 

While filling the FMGE 2026 application form students need to ensure that photograph should be coloured and without background. It should have white background and candidate's name & date should be mentioned on it. 

The ideal size of image which needs to be uploaded must be 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. The maximum size for the image is 80 KB and acceptable format should be of .JPG/.JPEG/.IMAGE. 

Q:   Is there any concession for reserved category candidates in the FMGE registration fee?

No, there is no concession in fee for reserved category candidates. Applicants for FMGE 2026 need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of INR 6,195 irrespective of their category. Registration is mandatory to submit the FMGE application form online. Candidates have to submit applicants name, date of birth, gender, nationality, mobile number, Email ID etc. as part of registration.

Q:   What will happen if I reach the FMGE exam centre a bit late?
A: 

Applicants are advised to reach the exam centre on time, they are also advised to check the exam centre 1 day before the exam. Candidates reporting late or after the time mentioned in the admit card shall not be allowed to appear in the exam under any circumstances. 

Hence students are allowed to reach the FMGE 2025 exam centre on time and enter the exam premises within time so that he/she can attempt the exam without any hassle. 

Q:   Can I change my FMGE 2025 exam centre?

No, the exam centres of FMGE are assigned by the exam conducting authorities after lots of debate & discussions hence one can not make a request to change the exam centre. 

If there is any emergency then applicants can make an attempt of changing exam centre address by sending an email or calling the helpline numbers and tell them about their problem.

National Board of Examinations (NBE) releases the syllabus for FMGE 2025 along with the information brochure. Q:   Will there be any subjective type questions in FMGE ?

No. The FMGE 2025 exam pattern clearly states that the question paper will only have multiple choice/objective types questions. There will be 300 questions for which 5 hours will be allotted to the candidates. Each question will have a weightage of 1 mark. There will be NO negative marking in the exam. 

Q:   Can I appear for FMGE exam in Hindi language or any other regional language?
A: 

No, the FMGE exam is conducted only in English medium. A candidate cannot appear for the FMGE 2025 exam in any other regional language. Unlike other competitive exams, there is no other medium of language introduced on this entrance exam.

Q:   What will be the total marks for FMGE exam?
A: 

There are a total two papers for which FMGE exam is being conducted. Each paper is being conducted for 150 marks each. In total FMGE exam will be conducted for a total of 300 marks. 

Q:   Is there any sectional time limit in the FMGE exam?
A: 

As per the directive of NBE there is no sectional time limit to attempt different sections of the FMGE question paper. Candidates will get overall 5 hours to attempt 300 questions in the exam. Candidates can switch between the sections to attempt the questions. 

Q:   How many questions are asked from Anatomy in FMGE exam?
A: 

Overall there will be 100 questions asked in the exam from Pre and Para Clinical Subject. Out of these 100 questions around 17 questions will be based on Anatomy section. Along with it, the same 17 questions will be asked from Physiology and Biochemistry sections as well. 

Students are advised to attempt all the questions which are asked in the exam as it does not have negative marking scheme.

FMGE 2026 Result

The FMGE result 2026 will be released in July. The exam will be conducted online as a Computer-Based Test(CBT) at the designated exam centres across the nation. The FMGE 2026 result will mention the following

  • Roll number, 
  • Marks secured (out of 300) 
  • Qualifying status.

To qualify the exam, the candidate must score 150 marks (50 per cent) out of 300. Such candidates who clear the exam become eligible to get the provisional registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council (SMC).

The FMGE Results (Pass/Fail) for eligible candidates will be displayed on the NBEMS website. There is no provision for re-totalling/re-evaluation/ award of grace marks in the exam. Only qualified candidates will be able to download the scorecard using their user ID and password. 

Earlier, the FMGE 2025 result (December session) was published online at the official admission portal on January 29, 2026. NBE doesn't send the result to any candidate at their postal address or email ID. The scorecards will also be provided to the candidates around a week after the declaration of the results.

Q:   If I do not qualify as per the FMGE exam result, can I retake the examination?

Yes, applicant can appear for the next session of FMGE exam. There is no capping on the number of attempts applicants appear in FMGE exam. 

Though students have to fill the FMGE application form every time, followed by paying the application fees. Hence it is advised that applicants need to be prepared before appearing for the exam.

Q:   What is the result declaration date for FMGE ?
A: 

The FMGE June session result will be declared in the last week of August 2026. The result will be released online in PDF form. It must be noted that the result of a particular session will be valid for that session only. Candidates have to score the minimum cut-off to qualify for the exam.

The minimum cut-off is 50 per cent marks, i.e., 150 out of 300. Qualified candidates will have to download the scorecard for FMGE 2026 from the official website.

FMGE 2026 Cutoff Marks

The FMGE exam is a screening exam only and the candidates who secure 150 or more marks in the exam will be declared as qualified to get the FMGE certificate and the MCI registration certificate to practice in India. These qualifying marks are popularly known as the FMGE cutoff.

To qualify for FMGE 2026 December session exam, a candidate will have to score 150 or more marks in the examination. The exact number of FMGE cutoff will remain same irrespective of the results of FMGE 2026.

Q:   Can I pursue a master's degree from India if I don't clear FMGE?
A: 

No, it is mandatory to clear FMGE if you have completed your undergraduate medical degree programme from outside India. However, candidates with an undergraduate medical degree from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United States of America or the United Kingdom, are exempted from FMGE. They need not to appear for FMGE exam for pursuing Masters in medical field. Candidates have to apply on the official website, NBE. Edu. In to register and submit application for the exam.

Q:   What is FMGE 2026 result time?

The NBEMS will release the FMGE 2026 results on the official website. According to the notification, the FMGE result will be out in the last week of August 2026, for the June session and the last week of January. 2027, for the December session exam.

It must be note only online application form will be accepted for FMGE 2025 June session. Candidates should fill details in the application form and submit it in the given deadline.

The FMGE June session result will be declared in the last week of August 2026. The result will be released online in PDF form. It must be noted that the result of a particular session will be valid for that session only. Candidates have to score the minimum cut-off to qualify for the exam.
