How To Calculate Cut Off Marks (NTA Assistant Professors)?
Step 1: The number of candidates to be qualified, that is, total slots or eligibility for Assistant Professor must be equal to 6 per cent of the total candidates appearing in both the papers of UGC NET.
Step 2: Total slots are allocated to candidates belonging to different categories according to the reservation policy of the Government of India.
The UGC NET 2025 expected cutoff may fall within the range of 216 to 160 for all subjects and categories. The NTA will release the UGC NET 2025 Dec session cutoff marks after the declaration of the result. Candidates who will meet or exceed the cutoff marks will qualify for further recruitment process.
Open the official website of NTA, find the "UGC NET Cut Off" link, now select History and choose the session of that particular year. The UGC NET cut-off marks will be displayed to download.
Step 3: To be eligible for JRF and Assistant Professor, candidates must appear for both papers and obtain at least 40 per cent aggregate marks in both papers for the General or Unreserved category and 35 per cent aggregate marks in both papers for candidates belonging to the reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), PwD, and Transgender).
The number of candidates declared UGC NET qualified in any subject for a particular category is derived as per the methodology explained below:
Example: Number of candidates to be declared qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor in the subject ‘Economics’ for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category |
Number of candidates belonging to SC category who secure atleast 35 per cent aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for SC category for ‘Economics’ (x) Total slots derived for SC category as per Step 2 (÷) Total number of candidates belonging to SC category over all subjects who secure at least 35 per cent aggregate marks in both the papers taken together |
The aggregate percentage obtained by candidates in the two papers corresponding to the number of slots shall determine the qualifying cut-off for eligibility for Assistant Professor in Economics for the SC category. Similarly, cutoffs shall be decided for all subjects and categories.
How To Calculate Cut Off Marks for Both JRF and Assistant Professor?
All candidates who have applied for both Assistant Professor and JRF should know how the cut off is calculated for both. Here also, the total number of slots available for awarding JRF is allocated among different categories according to the reservation policy of the Government of India. Below is explained the process through which subject-wise and category-wise allocation of JRF is done.
Number of candidates to be declared qualified for both JRF & Eligibility for Assistant Professor in the subject ‘Economics’ for the Scheduled Tribe (SC) category |
Number of candidates belonging to SC category who have opted for JRF and have qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor in the subject ‘Economics’ (x) Total JRF slots available for SC category (÷) Total number of candidates belonging to SC category over all subjects who have opted for JRF and have qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor |
The aggregate percentage of both the papers' scores according to the JRF slots arrived at, will determine the qualifying cut off for JRF in 'Economics' for the SC category. Likewise, the cut off for other categories and subjects will be implemented.
UGC NET Cut off 2025: Normalisation Process
The UGC NET normalisation procedure is an established practice in which the scores of the candidates who appear for the same exam in different sessions are compared. After that, to normalise the scores of all candidates, the percentile scores are used.
UGC NET Cut off 2025: What is Percentile Score in UGC NET?
The Percentile Score is based on the relative performance of all the candidates who appear for the exam. During the percentile calculation, the scores obtained by candidates in a session are converted into a scale ranging from 100-0.
Mainly, the percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who have secured an equal to or below that particular percentile in the exam. That is, the topper of each session of the exam gets the same percentile, which is 100. The marks obtained in the interval between the highest and lowest scores are also converted into percentiles.
