The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Graduate-Level (CGL) exam in four tiers. While the first two tiers of the exam contain objective-type questions, SSC CGL tier-III contains subjective questions. On the other hand, SSC CGL tier-IV is a computer proficiency/skill test. Candidates who clear all the tiers of the exam are shortlisted for recruitment in various Group-B and -C posts available in various ministries/departments/organisations of Government of India. However, for recruitment in some posts all shortlisted candidates also have to meet physical standards/physical tests/medical standards/medical tests laid out by the commission.

Physical Efficiency Test
A board of officers, detailed by the Headquarters, Director General Border Roads, conducts physical efficiency test at GREF Centre or respective Recruitment Centre. The criteria for SSC CGL physical efficiency test for Group-C posts is as mentioned below:

Medical Standards & Tests
The required medical standards are for recruitment of candidates for their service in GREF (BRO) as per their job profile, charter of duties and anticipated deployment, including extreme remote, high altitude and difficult areas of hilly terrain. Check out the required medical standards below:
- General: Every candidate must be sufficiently intelligent, free from nervous instability and in possession of good health
- General exam: It is essential for candidates to strip completely while the medical exam is being carrying out. Every part of the body of the candidate is examined by the medical officer. It may be noted that permanent body tattoos (except on inner face of forearms) are not allowed and any candidate having them is liable to be rejected.
Once the medical tests are done, candidates found fit or unfit are informed of their medical result by the Medical Board conducting the tests.

No. The Tier 1 marks for the SSC CGL are not used in the preparation of the final merit list. The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 exam. However, the final selection and ranking is based on the marks obtained in the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam.
