Overview

SSC CGL Salary 2026: The SSC CGL posts are the Central Government posts whose service conditions are prescribed by the Union Ministry of Personnel. The SSC CGL Salary is also one of the most important component of the service conditions. The pay scale is decided based on the different pay grades notified in the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations. The Staff Selection Commission mentions the basic salary and the increment component in the SSC CGL notification. The selected candidates are allotted to a service and get the prescribed salary with allowances. In addition to the basic salary, the candidates get the Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Local Travelling Allowance and the likes. Recently, the Government of India approved the Constitution of 8th Pay Commission. This year, the Ministry of Personnel re-classified the Inspector of Income Tax is re-classifed as Group B post. SSC CGL Pay Levels 2026

The salary is the monthly earnings that candidates get after clearing the SSC CGL exam and join Group B and C posts in the central government ministries and departments. The SSC CGL salary provides clear idea about the pay scale, grade pay, allowances and in-hand salary for the candidates selected for the Group B and C posts. The higest salary is associated with the Group B (Gazetted) posts. The second in line comes the Group B (Non-Gazetted) posts. The Group C posts comes last in the pyramid. SSC CGL Salary 2026: Other Allowances (HRA, TA, DA)

Apart from the basic pay, SSC CGL salary also include other components such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), Dearness Allowance (DA) etc.

House Rent Allowance

HRA is provided to employees to meet their house rent needs. The HRA given to candidates varies as per the city in which they are posted and is broadly divided into three categories:

DA or Dearness Allowance is a cost of living adjustment allowance and is presently 58 pr cent of the basic pay as per the recent government orders.

SSC CGL In Hand Salary - How to Calculate?

The salary of the SSC CGL posts is the same because the pay levels will be revised only after the recommendations of the Pay Commission. The Pay Commission is constituted by the Union Government of India at intervals of 10 or more years. The associated allowances with the post change over time which changes the salary-in-hand of the employee. SSC CGL officer's salary differs from post to post. The percentage of allowances provided to the employees remains the same but the basic salary is different from post to post.

The above calculations are done based on the basic pay. The basic pay is revised after a certain years in service. 

The SSC CGL recruitment will have two stages only: Tier 1 exam andTier 2 exam.
The candidates should note that the candidates are required to breach their SSC CGL cutoff of each stage to clear it.  The document verification will be conducted by the intended department. The Staff Selection Commission conduct the SSC Combined Graduate Level exam every year to recruit the candidates for the Group B and Group C posts. 
The Commission will release the SSC CGL 2026 online application link with the official notification soon. The candidates will be required to fill out the SSC CGL application form through the One-Time Registration number and credentials. The candidate requires the SSC registration number for login purposes. Q:   Is the SSC CGL 2026 vacancy list PDF released?
A: 

The Staff Selection Commission released the SSC CGL 2026 vacancies in the notification PDF at ssc.gov.in. The Commission will release the category-wise and post-wise vacancy list for the candidates. The Commission will release the final number of SSC CGL vacancies just before the final result to calculate the cutoff as per the final number of SSC CGL vacancies. 

Q:   Is the SSC CGL salary increased recently?
A: 

Yes, the candidates should note that the salary to all the employees serving in the SSC CGL posts/services is provided by the Government of India. On March 7, 2024, the Government of Indian increased the DA of the central government employees. As per the Government order, the DA in now increased to 50 % of the basic pay.

This hike in DA will be applicable to the TA component of the salary too. This hike in DA component will be applicable from January 1, 2024.

Q:   Which is the best salary in the SSC CGL posts?
A: 

The candidates should note that the SSC CGL exam is conducted to recruit the candidates for the following posts:

  • Group B gazette
  • Group B non-gazette
  • Group C

The highest salary is notified for the SSC CGL AAO post which is central pay level 8 having the INR 47,600-1,51,100.

Q:   When will the SSC CGL 2026 Application Form be available?
A: 

The Staff Selection Commission released the application form for the SSC CGL 2026 exam on May 21. The SSC CGL 2026 exam is expected to be conducted in August-September 2026. The last date to apply is June 22.

Q:   Do SSC CGL has interview?
A: 

SSC CGL exam has no interview in the exam process. There are two tiers in the SSC CGL exam and the candidates need to appear and clear both tiers. After that, the document verification will be carried at the department of appointment. This reduced the time of the exam process and expedited the exam process.

The candidates can check the SSC CGL 2025 selection process in the official notification. 

Q:   What is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for the SSC CGL exam?
A: 
Candidates who possess a Bachelor's degree can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Diploma holders are not eligible to apply for the exam. The candidates who are in the last year of their graduation can apply for the exam under the 'result awaited category' but they need to acquire their graduation degree before the last date of application which is considered as the cutoff date. There is no bar of minimum percentage in the Graduation exam. Candidates with any percentage can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Commission provides a level playing field to all the candidates.
Q:   Is the SSC CGL application fee refundable?
A: 
No, the SSC CGL application fee, once paid is non-refundable. The fee once paid cannot be refunded at any point in time. The Commission mentioned that the application fee will not be refunded even when the candidates withdraw their applications. The Commission does not refund the application fee under any condition. There is no provision provided for the refund of application fee. Such facility was provided by UPSC earlier under the application withdrawal scheme.
Q:   I am already registered on the official website of SSC. Do I need to register again to apply for the SSC CGL exam?
A: 

No, if already registered, the candidates can skip the registration and apply directly for the SSC CGL exam by logging into their accounts. The SSC OTR is required to log in at ssc.gov.in. Candidates can apply online for various SSC exams with one registration number. 

Q:   Is SSC CGL syllabus released every year?
A: 

The Commission releases the SSC CGL syllabus every year with the notification that governs the exam of that year. The Commission can change the syllabus anytime even after the release of notification through an addendum. The syllabus mentioned  forms the basis of the paper for that year. The SSC CGL 2026 syllabus is mentioned in the official SSC CGL notification.

Q:   What details are present in the SSC CGL vacancies PDF?
A: 
The SSC CGL vacancies PDF contains details such as year of exam, postcode, post name, department name, category names, age limit, etc. The department name is mentioned based on the requisition received from the department. The Commission also releases the vertical reservations apart from the category names such as the sub-divisions of PwD.
Q:   What is the difference between DA and Basic Pay in SSC CGL salary?
A: 

The Basic Pay is the fixed component of the SSC CGL Salary while Dearness Allowance (DA) depend on the place of posting and it is not fixed. The highest DA is provided for the "X" class cities.

Q:   How can I apply for SSC CGL ?
A: 

The CGL online applications will start soon at ssc.gov.in. The candidates can apply for the exam in the manner given below:

  1. Visit at ssc.gov.in.
  2. Login with the SSC OTR.
  3. Fill the CGL 2026 application form on ssc.gov.in.
  4. Pay the fee (as notified in the notification).
  5. Submit the SSC CGL online application form.

The last date for the applications will be given in the notification.

Q:   Can I pay the SSC CGL application fee in offline mode?
A: 
Yes, candidates can pay the application fee in offline mode through the SBI challan. The last date to submit the SSC CGL application fee offline is always one day after the fee submission date online. The Commission provides the opportunity to submit the application fee online also. The candidates should note that they are required to generate an offline fee payment challan from the official website of the SSC. The fee can be paid through this challan only.
Q:   How many questions will be asked in the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam 2026?
A: 

The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam consists of 100 questions (MCQs) and the duration of the exam is one hour that is candidates need to complete the exam in 60 minutes. Total marks for the exam is 200. The exam will be conducted online.
