However, if your aim is to work for the central government and have postings across India, SSC CGL is a better choice. Both exams are different in the following ways:
1. Nature of work: The WBCS is a state-level government exam in West Bengal, whereas the CGL is a central-level exam. With WBCS you can work as a group A, B, C, or D officer, and after clearing CGL, you will get a job as a group B or C officer in the central government.
2. Career scope: Except for executive and group B posts, all other posts do not have much career scope in WBCS. On the other hand, you can become a Gazetted officer through the CGL. Most group B and C posts have a comparably better career than group B, C, and D posts of the WBCS such as JSO.
3. Pay and benefits: The pay and benefits in both cases are determined by the level of posting. For example, level 10 posts in both exams have similar perks and salary scales.
4. Transfer: If your home state is West Bengal, then WBCS is a better choice due to the better chances of a home posting. This is more difficult in CGL jobs because you may be required to serve anywhere in India, depending on the vacancy and requirement.

Which SSC CGL position is the best?

You can apply for either post in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department under CAG.
The reasons why the position of an AAO is best are as follows:
1. Level of post: AAOs are group B-gazetted officers; on the other hand, all other posts in CGL are non-gazetted. Some other jobs are group C jobs, such as inspector of income tax. Therefore, the AAOs enjoy more prestige as they can authorize the issuance of official government stamps.
2. Job profile: The AAO works in the audit department under the CAG of India. The work of the AAO is dynamic in nature and includes auditing. This work is highly important under the IAAD, and they can perform audit inspections. Most other posts are either completely field jobs, like inspectors, or completely desk jobs, like upper division clerks. However, most young applicants prefer an assistant audit officer over an assistant accounts officer.
3. Promotions: They outperform all other posts in terms of promotions. For example, you will join as an assistant audit officer and gradually get promoted to the post of senior deputy accountant general after four promotions. The promotions that you can get are Audit Officer, Sr. Audit Officer, and Deputy Accountant General before getting your final promotion. Similarly, you can become a chief accounts officer after getting promoted from the position of assistant account officer.
4. Salary: As an assistant audit officer, you will be entitled to a grade pay of 4800 and an in-hand salary of around Rs. 65,318 in city X, which is equivalent to that of an assistant accounts officer. All other posts' grade pay is less than this for these jobs, which are 4600 and 4200, respectively.
5. Work-life balance: Among the assistant audit officer and the assistant account officer, the account officer has a better work-life balance. Most civil service aspirants prefer the assistant account officer post to prepare for the UPSC.
