The exam authority will release the IISER entrance exam shift timings online. Students can check the IISER 2026 exam timing on the website, iiseradmission.in. IAT exam is conducted for admission to 5-year BS-MS degree and 4-year BS degree programmes. The test duration is of three hours. IISER 2026 is expected to be held in May 2026. The exam date for IISER 2026 will be announced soon.

Q:   When will be the Portal open to upload documents and freeze IISER preferences for IISER 2026 Admissions?
A:

The portal for document upload and freezing of IISER preferences for IISER 2026 Admissions is expected to begin in the month of July 2026, tentatively. After accepting the offer and paying the seat acceptance fee, the candidate can exercise two options:

  1. Candidate can FREEZE the seat (they will not participate in further rounds of counselling),
  2. Candidate can FLOAT (they will participate in further rounds of counselling to get their higher preferences). The FLOAT option is activated by default for those who pay the seat acceptance fee. A student who has chosen to FLOAT will again be considered for seat allocation in the next round. If they are eligible to secure a seat in an IISER that is higher in their preference list than the currently accepted one, they will be offered that seat.
Q:   When will IISER Entrance Exam 2026 notification release?
A:

IISER Entrance Exam 2026 notification is expected to be released by the conducting IISER in the second week of March 2026. The exam is conducted for admission to the five-year BS-MS dual degree and four-year BS degree programmes. The IISER Entrance Exam 2026 will be conducted tentatively in the fourth week of May 2026. 

Q:   Will IISER Entrance Exam Centres be located outside India?
A:

IISER Entrance Exam centres are located in cities across India. The exam is not conducted outside India. In case there is a change this year, it will be updated here.

  • Candidates will be awarded three marks for each correct answer.
  • There will be a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer.

IISER Exam 2026 Important Instructions for the Candidates

1. Candidates are advised to report at the exam centre 2 hours before the commencement of the examination.
2. Candidates should take their seats immediately after the opening of the Examination Hall. If the candidates do not report in time due to any reason, i.e. traffic jam, train/bus delay, etc., they are likely to miss some of the important instructions to be announced in the Examination Rooms/Halls. NTA shall not be responsible for any delay.
3. The candidate must show, on demand, the Admit Card downloaded/printed from the NTA website for admission in the examination room/hall. The Test Centre Staff on duty is authorised to verify the identity of candidates and may take steps to verify and confirm the identity credentials. Candidates are requested to extend their full cooperation. A candidate who does not possess a valid Admit Card and authorised Photo ID shall not be permitted to take the examination under any circumstances by the Centre Superintendent.

4. A seat indicating Roll Number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates should find and sit in their allocated seats only. In case a candidate ventures to change his/her seat and does not sit on the seat allotted to him/her could face cancellation of candidature. No plea would be entertained in this regard.
5. The candidate should ensure that the Question Paper available on the computer is as per his/her opted subject indicated in the Admit Card. In case the subject of the Question Paper is other than his/her opted subject, the same may be brought to the notice of the Invigilator concerned.
6. The candidates may approach the Centre Superintendent/Invigilator in the room for any technical assistance, first aid emergency, or any other information during the course of the examination. For any queries or issues regarding the Computer-Based Test, the candidates may contact on Helpline Numbers available on the Common University Entrance Test website.
7. In case a candidate, by furnishing false information, appears in more than one shift/date, his candidature will be cancelled, and his result will not be declared.
8. For those who are unable to appear on the scheduled date of the test for any reason, a re-test shall not be held by the NTA under any circumstances.
Note: Candidates shall appear at their own cost at the Centre on the Date, Subject and timing of the Examination as indicated in their Admit Card issued by the NTA. Under no circumstances shall the choice of cities for the Centre and the timing of examination provided in the Admit Card be changed.

220+ marks are a good score in IISER.  Students must have a proper strategy to score high. They can plan their preparation according to the IISER exam syllabus. Practising previous year question paper and mock test will help in scoring good marks.

There is no fixed number of entering preference for the IISER Entrance Exam counselling process. There are seven IISER institutes offering 11 programmes. Candidates have to select at least one IISER. Higher the number of preferences, better will be their chance of seat allotment.
