IISER Entrance Exam provides admissions to the BS-MS/ BS/ BTech programmes offered by some of the prestigious institutions across the nation. IISER 2026 participating institutes list is available online. There are seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER). Admission to BS-MS, BS, and BTech programmes offered at IISER is based on IISER Aptitude Test score (IAT). There are 2343 seats available in the IISER campuses. IISERs offer admission into courses leading to BSMS Dual Degree and BS Degree (only at IISER Bhopal) Programs. Below are the programmes offered by IISERs:

Earlier, there were three channels through which candidates could get admissions to the courses offered at IISER institutions, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras. From the academic session 2025, admissions are done through the IAT exam channel only, and the other two channels, including JEE Main and KVPY scores, have been discontinued.
Earlier, IISER admission took place through three channels, IISER Entrance Exam, JEE Main and KVPY scores. Last year onwards, the admission takes place only through IISER entrance exam scores. Hence, JEE Main scores or ranks will not be considered for admission.
Following the previous years' trends, the exam officials release the round-wise IISER institute-wise closing ranks. IAT cutoff marks refer to the minimum marks test takers need to score to get admission in the programmes offered by the participating institutes.

IAT 2026 candidates' ranks will be based on their combined scores from the four sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology). The exam comprises 60 questions with a total score of 240 marks. Below is a table for the expected IISER 2026 ranks corresponding to different score ranges.

IISER Participating Institutes: Admission Process
Admission to IISER campuses is based on entrace test. The institute conducts the IISER Aptitude Test once a year. The test is conducted online in various cities. To appear for the entrace test, students need to apply online. IISER admission is based on IAT rank, availability of seats in IISER campuses, preference given by the candidates and the category to which candidates belong.

Yes, you can get admission to the IISER with 6000 rank. However, admission will depend on your category. SC/ST category students have a strong chance of admisison with the mentioned rank. General category students can get admission to the newly added IISER.
