IISER Entrance Exam Participating Institutes
Earlier, there were three channels through which candidates could get admissions to the courses offered at IISER institutions, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras. From the academic session 2025, admissions are done through the IAT exam channel only, and the other two channels, including JEE Main and KVPY scores, have been discontinued.
In the event that there is fewer number of seats available under a particular category in an academic programme than the number of
candidates with the same category-wise rank seeking admission to the B.S. (Medical Sciences and Engineering) program, then all those candidates will be offered seats by creating requisite number of supernumerary seats.

IAT 2026 candidates' ranks will be based on their combined scores from the four sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology). The exam comprises 60 questions with a total score of 240 marks. Below is a table for the expected IISER 2026 ranks corresponding to different score ranges.
The following rules for reallocation of seats will be applicable in every round of seat allocation:
Unfilled OPEN PwD category seats for an academic program will be reallocated and treated as OPEN category seats for allocation.
Unfilled GEN EWS PwD category seats for an academic program will be reallocated and treated as GEN-EWS category seats for allocation.
Unfilled OBC NCL PwD category seats for an academic program will be reallocated and treated as OBC-NCL category seats for allocation.
Unfilled SC PwD category seats for an academic programme will be reallocated and treated as SC category seats for allocation.
Unfilled ST PwD category seats for an academic programme will be reallocated and treated as ST category seats for allocation.
Earlier, IISER admission took place through three channels, IISER Entrance Exam, JEE Main and KVPY scores. Last year onwards, the admission takes place only through IISER entrance exam scores. Hence, JEE Main scores or ranks will not be considered for admission.
The IISER entrance exam scores are accepted by 11 IISER institutes across India. Apart from that, IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras also consider the scores for admission to BS courses offered by them.

IISER Participating Institutes: Admission Process
Admission to IISER campuses is based on entrace test. The institute conducts the IISER Aptitude Test once a year. The test is conducted online in various cities. To appear for the entrace test, students need to apply online. IISER admission is based on IAT rank, availability of seats in IISER campuses, preference given by the candidates and the category to which candidates belong.

220+ marks are a good score in IISER. Students must have a proper strategy to score high. They can plan their preparation according to the IISER exam syllabus. Practising previous year question paper and mock test will help in scoring good marks.

There is no fixed number of entering preference for the IISER Entrance Exam counselling process. There are seven IISER institutes offering 11 programmes. Candidates have to select at least one IISER. Higher the number of preferences, better will be their chance of seat allotment.
