IISER 2025 Last-Minute Preparation Tips

The section below brings a list of tips that are not just related to studies, but practical aspects as well.

1. Revision: Isn’t it annoying when you learn something by heart and end up forgetting the concept on the day of the exam? It usually happens when you do not revise your subjects, especially a few days before the exam. The best way to revise any topic is to solve as many questions as possible related to it.

Q:   When will the first round of admissions start for the IISER entrance exam?
A:

Once IISER result is declared, a seat allotment list is declared containing roll numbers of candidates who are allocated seats in BS-MS programmes. Candidates can check the first round allotment list on the official website of the exam tentatively by the second week of July 2026. All candidates whose roll numbers appear in the first round allotment list need to log in to their application portal to download the offer letters.

Q:   When will be the Portal open to upload documents and freeze IISER preferences for IISER 2026 Admissions?
A:

The portal for document upload and freezing of IISER preferences for IISER 2026 Admissions is expected to begin in the month of July 2026, tentatively. After accepting the offer and paying the seat acceptance fee, the candidate can exercise two options:

  1. Candidate can FREEZE the seat (they will not participate in further rounds of counselling),
  2. Candidate can FLOAT (they will participate in further rounds of counselling to get their higher preferences). The FLOAT option is activated by default for those who pay the seat acceptance fee. A student who has chosen to FLOAT will again be considered for seat allocation in the next round. If they are eligible to secure a seat in an IISER that is higher in their preference list than the currently accepted one, they will be offered that seat.

2. Attempt sample papers and previous year question papers of IISER: Solving the IISER previous year question paper will not only boost your confidence level but also help you know the frequently asked questions. With a couple of days still to go, you can easily attempt at least two to three question papers. Devote the remaining time to work on your areas.

3. Find your weak areas where you need to focus more. It can only be found when you will resolve the IISER sample papers and previous year papers. After you know your weak points, focus more on these when you will prepare for the notes and solve the IISER sample papers.

4: Do not start new topics during your revision time, it is better to revisit that you have already studied. Starting a new topic at the revision time may create confusion. Study more important topics at this time and solve questions related to these topics.

5. If you can manage your time well, you will even have sufficient time to work on your weak areas. Do not keep yourself busy in watching television or plan a day out with friends as every minute counts from here onward. Prepare a small pocket notebook and note down important formulas, definitions, graphs, diagrams, etc. and carry it along wherever you go.
6. Take out the hard copy of the admit card of IISER on an A4 size sheet. Along with the admit card, you also need to carry the following documents:
Two passport size photographs
An original copy of photo identity proof preferably Aadhar card/ PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID
Travel pass issued by IIT Guwahati

220+ marks are a good score in IISER.  Students must have a proper strategy to score high. They can plan their preparation according to the IISER exam syllabus. Practising previous year question paper and mock test will help in scoring good marks.
