IISER 2026 Notification: Exam Date

However, as per the previous year trends, it is expected that the IISER 2026 entrance exam application process will start in the second week of March 2026 and the last date for doing the online registration will be the fourth week of April 2026.

IISER 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The exam authority will release the IAT eligibility criteria 2026 online. Students have to check the information brochure for the eligibility criteria. Passed 10+2 in 2024, 2025, or 2026 with a science stream from any board recognized by the Council of Boards of School Education in India, can apply for the test. IISER 2026 Notification: Syllabus & Pattern
The exam authority will release the IISER syllabus and pattern online. IISER syllabus will be available for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematic and Biology. The exam pattern for IISER 2026 will comprise marking scheme, mode of exam, duration of test, types of questions and total marks. IAT exam is a computer-based test. The duration of exam is of three hours. IISER Aptitude Test 2026 will consist of 60 questions. Each question will carry 4 marks. Negative marking is done for wrong answers. IISER total mark is 240.
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research will announce the IISER 2026 exam date on the website, iiseradmission.in/. Students can check the IAT exam date to know the schedule of important events like registration, entrance exam date, admit card, result, and more.
IISER Entrance Exam 2026 notification is expected to be released by the conducting IISER in the second week of March 2026. The exam is conducted for admission to the five-year BS-MS dual degree and four-year BS degree programmes. The IISER Entrance Exam 2026 will be conducted tentatively in the fourth week of May 2026.
The portal for document upload and freezing of IISER preferences for IISER 2026 Admissions is expected to begin in the month of July 2026, tentatively. After accepting the offer and paying the seat acceptance fee, the candidate can exercise two options:
- Candidate can FREEZE the seat (they will not participate in further rounds of counselling),
- Candidate can FLOAT (they will participate in further rounds of counselling to get their higher preferences). The FLOAT option is activated by default for those who pay the seat acceptance fee. A student who has chosen to FLOAT will again be considered for seat allocation in the next round. If they are eligible to secure a seat in an IISER that is higher in their preference list than the currently accepted one, they will be offered that seat.

There is no fixed number of entering preference for the IISER Entrance Exam counselling process. There are seven IISER institutes offering 11 programmes. Candidates have to select at least one IISER. Higher the number of preferences, better will be their chance of seat allotment.
