Branch-Wise JEE Advanced Cutoff 2025 For Top 5 IITs

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) offer full-time BTech and Integrated BTech courses covering various specialisations. Among these, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering are some of the top branches to get admission at IITs. Considering the high demand and competitive ranks of these specialisations, only a few aspirants can get a chance to secure a seat at their dream IIT. Top branches and specialisation for BTech admission could vary for different IITs. For the General AI quota, the maximum JEE Advanced cutoff rank was 7382 for admission to the CSE branch across all the IITs. Considering the 2025 cutoff ranks, students preparing for admission in the next academic session must target to secure a rank of up to the aforementioned cutoff rank to get a seat at IITs for Computer Science and Engineering.

Q:   How many specialisations does IIT Guwahati offer under MSc?
A:

IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process. Candidates are selected based on scores of IIT JAM entrance exam, followed by a round of counselling.

Q:   Is JEE mandatory for BSc courses at IIT Madras?
A:

No, JEE exams are not mandatory for BSc admissions at IIT Madras. Candidates who wish to take admissions into the BSc course at IIT Madras must appear for IISER entrance examination. The admissions into IIT Madras BSc courses are decided on merit basis where, the scores obtained by candidates in the IISER entrance exam are taken into account to decide the admissions.

Q:   What is the cutoff for JEE Advanced 2026?
A:

The JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff will be released with the results of JEE Advanced 2026. Until then, candidates can check below the JEE Advanced cutoff from the previous years:

The JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff of the common rank list is 20.56%; 18.50% for the GEN-EWS rank list and OBC-NCL rank list; 10.28% for SC, ST, and PwD rank lists across all categories; and 5.14% for Preparatory course rank lists.

All those candidates who score above the cutoff marks in their respective categories can register for JoSAA counselling to participate in the IIT seat allotment process. Note that qualifying the JEE Advaced cutoff will not guarantee a seat in the IITs. Various factors are at play while allotting seats in the IITs. These factors include the demand for a course and IIT, the number of seats on offer, the reservation criteria, etc.

As per the IITs JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff, IIT Bombay has the most competitive cutoff rank for the CSE branch compared to other IITs. In this section, candidates can view the top 5 IITs branch-wise cutoff 2025 for the General All India category candidates.

IITs Cutoff FAQs

Q. What is the cutoff rank in IITs for CS?

A. IITs offer admission to various BTech courses based on JEE Advanced scores followed by the centralised JoSAA Counselling. JoSAA Counselling is conducted round-wise across various categories. Based on competitive ranks, BTech in Computer Science Engineering can be considered the most popular course amongst the students aspiring for IITs. Tabulated below are the Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks for JoSAA 2024 cutoff for the top five IITs for the General category candidates for All India Quota:

Q. What is the basis for the IIT cutoff?

A. IIT cutoff for BTech, BArch, Integrated BTech and BSc courses is based on JEE Main ranks, followed by JEE Advanced. The final selection of candidates is done based on round-wise JoSAA Counselling. JoSAA Counselling is generally conducted up to six rounds for IITs. Every year the cutoff for IITs varies based on several factors including, the total count of students who have appeared for the exam, the difficulty level of the JEE Main and JEE Advanced, the total number of seats available in the IIT across categories through All India Quota.

Q. IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi, which one is better for Computer Science (CS)?

A. Both IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are considered as the top Engineering colleges. Getting admission to either of the IITs requires a lot of hard work. The first and foremost criterion for IITs is to meet the cutoff. Seen from a perspective of cutoff, only the candidates, who qualify for JEE Advanced and meet the cutoff are eligible for admission to these IITs. As per the NIRF Ranking 2024, IIT Delhi stands at 2, whereas IIT Bombay stands at 3.

Taking about JEE Advanced cutoff 2024, the last round closing rank for IIT Bombay was 68, while for IIT Delhi, the cutoff closed at 116 for the General AI category students. Considering the closing cutoff for both the institutues, it is evident that IIT Bombay is more competitive for CSE admission than IIT Delhi.

Q. Why are cut-offs for BTech + MTech dual degree courses less than those for only BTech, for any stream in general at IITs?

A. IITs offer BTech as well as 5-year Integrated BTech courses in the field of Engineering. The cutoff for only BTech and Integrated BTech varies on a large scale because of the demand for the courses. The ranks of only BTech courses are more competitive than the five-year integrated BTech courses because of the high demand of the course. Candidates who have passed Class 12 look for the UG BTech courses only as they are not sure of what to pursue for PG. It is because of the low demand that the five-year Integrated courses have less competition as compared to BTech for any other stream for the General category students.

You will not be eligible for admission as preparatory ranks are not considered under round 1. Since you have already qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), all you need to do is meet the second criterion and apply for round 2, which will be only conducted if seats from round 1 remain vacant.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.

No, candidates need not pay any fees to participate in JEE Adv counselling. However, once the seat is allotted, candidates will need to pay approximately INR 35,000 (less for reserved category) as a seat acceptance fee and around INR 20,000 as partial admission fees. Both these payments are adjusted

Mock test released by organising IITs are very useful in understanding the pattern and difficulty level of exam. However, solving official mock test paper only is not advised. It is recommended to solve additional mock test to score good marks in JEE Advanced.
