Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is DTU as good as an IIT?
A:

DTU's BTech in Civil Engineering course has been rated 4.2/5 by 95 Shiksha verified students, while the same course at IIT Delhi has been rated 4.6/5 by 41 students at Shiksha. Also, as per the NIRF 2024 Rankings, Delhi Technological University has been ranked 27 under the 'Engineering' category, however, there are many IITs that are ranked before DTU in the same category. But, despite that, DTU competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in streams such as Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as a second-phase IIT or an NIT.

Q:   Can I get into DTU without giving JEE?
A:

No, candidates cannot get admission to DTU without appearing for JEE Main as the DTU BTech counselling is done through JAC Delhi. The basic criteria for admission to BTech is appearing for JEE Mains. To get into DTU, candidates must score decent marks or at least around 220 or above marks in JEE Mains. The only way to get into DTU without appearing for JEE Main is by taking a lateral entry admission to BTech second year. In order to do this, candidates must complete a Polytechnic course of two years and then appear for an entrance exam (not JEE Main but this exam will give you entry in DTU's second year.

It offers average facilities. The college is good.
Placements: Placements are good, but decreasing every year, and it is the same for every college, except for some IITs. The average offered in my branch is 15 LPA. 60 to 70 percent is the placement ratio here. I am in the first year, so I have only this much knowledge about placements. The department is good.
Infrastructure: The college has fewer hostel facilities. I am living 130 KM away from DTU, and I still have not got a hostel. My hostel friend says the food is not good, and sometimes, they find expired items. Rooms are also not in very good condition. The 2nd year boys' and girls' hostels, which are newly built, are good.
Faculty: It charges Rs. 7,500 for one subject back. We have to score 21 from MTE and ETE. We have to score 35 from MTE, ETE, PRS, and PRE to not get a backlog. Some subjects are very tough, like electrical and electronics, in which many students fail. Some subjects are relevant, and some are not.

A decent college till now.
Placements: Around 50 percent of students are placed, it might be greater or less than this. In 2025, the highest package is 22 LPA and the average Is 9.81 LPA I am talking about Mechanical Engineering (Automotive). For the teaching posts, only big companies are open for all. I cannot say exactly what the roles are because I am a first-year student.
Infrastructure: If you are talking about hostels, then the hostels are decent. We have facilities like water coolers for drinking water, and there is a mess near the hostel which serves food four times a day. There is also a help centre near the first-year hostel.
Faculty: This is a subjective topic, but according to me, some of the teachers act like typical college teachers and can be rude sometimes because of their ego. However, some teachers are really helpful and support students not only in the first year but also till the last year, as per seniors’ experience.
Other: I got this course through the physical spot round, so it is not my choice. If I could have chosen, as everyone says, I would have taken Computer Science Engineering. There has been no fest in the first semester so far, but let's see in the future; I hope it will be good.

Good campus, which I was expecting.
Placements: The placement cell in college is very good and useful. It gives wide opportunities and internships in many companies. Non-tech students get the highest placement in civil engineering of 17 LPA per annum. Top recruiting companies overall were Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft.
Infrastructure: The hostel is very good with zero ragging in college, and the food in the mess is also good. Labs in college are very good with great instruments, so students can do better experiments. I also like the sports culture, as there is an extra fest for sports organized on campus to encourage children more.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and qualified, and also give regular assignments for practice. Exams are not too difficult. They are average. My course is more relevant, and the overall pass percentage is about 80%. Teachers also help weak students with their work.
Other: I have chosen this course not as my first option, but because it is the best based on my rank in JEE, but now I am getting into it, so I get better results.

It is a very good college.
Placements: 48 percent of students get placements. The highest is 20 LPA, and the average is 9 LPA. Tata projects and big companies provide good government job opportunities in civil engineering. DTU is a very good college, including top technology firms like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, as well as major Public Sector Undertakings.
Infrastructure: A very good college infrastructure is available in civil engineering with good facilities. Good food and a clean mess. DTU's infrastructure includes a large campus with advanced academic facilities like well-equipped labs, a central library, and numerous departmental libraries.

Satisfied with the placement in 2025, good infrastructure and facilities, and decent faculty.
Placements: I'm in my first year, so I don't have much idea about the current placement inside, but from what I have seen, the placement for CSE is nearly 20 LPA with a batch of around 600 students. I think that's very good for ECE, my branch is around 16 - 17 LPA, since I'm more interested in core ECE and because of the location in Delhi, and being reputed (Formerly DCE), major core companies like Nvidia, Intel do visit the college which is a big plus since specially in ECE in core generally jobs are after M.Tech.
Infrastructure: The lecture complex is fine, it has centralised AC, and the desks are not the best, but definitely more than enough. Fine Wi-Fi is available in the library and lecture complex. The speed is fine, just you have to register every time you log in, which is a bit annoying but okay. Labs of the first year are decent, not too much to complain about there. Sports facilities are my personal favourite, especially the cricket and football grounds, which are sublime. There is badminton (indoor and outdoor), lawn tennis, table tennis, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball facilities, and more or less every major sport is available.
Faculty: Teachers depend especially in the first year, when there is no senior faculty teaching, some are assistant professors, or some are post-graduation teachers. It depends, generally, assistant professors are fine, most of them are chill, they provide notes and everything, but only a few teachers explain properly, at least till now. I don't get the point of Chemistry in the first sem of ECE. Semester exams are not very difficult, just do the assignments and previous papers properly, and you can give them easily, but the regulations against cheating are strict, especially at the end of the semester.
Other: I chose ECE over CSE because I think the future in ECE, especially in electronics with semiconductors, is very good, even though I have an interest in coding, but I think ECE is the correct mix of coding with hardware. I feel like if you are not sure between core, coding, software, or hardware, ECE is the branch where you can find your interest. Events and fests of DTU are famous, but for some reason, this year, there are no freshers nor dandiya nights. There was Uphaar (Diwali mela), which was, to be honest, very good, we enjoyed it a lot.

Good brand value and decent tech placements.
Placements: Overall placement states may be low. But placements are good for tech branches, like CSE, Maths computing, Software, IT, etc. Students of branches like environment and Biotech are rarely placed. The placement value is good. And the companies are reputable.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not of good quality. Some hostels are good with AC, but 1st year hostels are very old and in terrible conditions. The classrooms lack proper Wi-Fi. But this all being secondary, the primary thing is the lack of clean water on campus. Once, a lizard was found inside the water dispenser near our classrooms.
Faculty: Faculty, curriculum and exams are all outdated. There is very little faculty that actually come to teach. Others are just doing formality. The curriculum is very old. Most of the students study from online lectures that are 10-15 years old. The world and technology have come a long way from there.
Other: The best thing would be brand value and the peer group.

DTU Admission 2026 FAQs

Q:   Can I get DTU with 80 percentile in JEE Main via JAC Delhi?
A:
Usually, the cutoff for DTU stays around 90, even for the reserved categories. Therefore, getting into B.Tech courses at DTU is difficult with a JEE Main percentile score of 90 or below. The cutoff also goes high and low every year, depending on the following factors: Number of aspirants registered, The difficulty level of the exam, Total number of seats available, total number of applications received for a particular program, and the category under which admission is sought. Therefore, it is very difficult to predict the exact cutoff and give an exact answer to this question.
Q:   How can I apply for MBA at DTU?
A:

The DTU MBA application process canbe completed in online mode. To apply for MBA admissions, candidates need to visit the official website and register themselves on it. After that, candidates can fill out the application form, attach all necessary documents and pay the DTU application fee which INR 1500 for general category applicants and 750 for the rest.

However, the choice of branch depends on the requirement and discretion of the students. For more reviews on DTU for MTech,  click here.

Q:   How can I get admission to M.Tech at DTU?
A:

DTU started offering the course in Fashion Design specialisation (Check Top Fashion Design Colleges in India here) and it mentioned about starting Film Design specialisation. Interested candidates can apply online on the official admission portal of DTU. Admisison to BDes is subject to a valid score in the UCEED exam. Interested candidates, however, are required to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria set by the university for admission which is to be a pass out of Class 12 with Science/ Commerce/ Arts or a three-year Diploma recognised by AICTE.

Q:   Is DTU worthy to join, considering the increased seat intake?
A:

Every year, the universities and colleges change their seat intake so that every student gets an equal opportunity to pursue education from the best universities. This does not make DTU any less competitive. In 2023 as well, India Today ranked the college 9 under the ‘Engineering’ category and 8 under the ‘Engineering (Government)’ category. Every year the popularity of this university is rising but the university is not compromising with the quality of education they are offering.

Q:   Is there a separate entrance exam to get admission in DTU for B.Tech?
A:

For BTech admission, DTU accepts JEE Main followed by JAC counselling and the entire admission process is conducted via Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi. To be eligible, candidates must fulfil the below eligibility criteria:

  • Delhi Region candidates (85% of seats): Aspirants passing the qualifying exam from a recognised school/ college/ institute located within the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi will be considered for the Delhi Region only
  • Outside Delhi Region candidates (15% of seats): Aspirants passing the qualifying examination from a recognised school/ college/ institute located outside the National Capital Territory of Delhi will be considered for Outside Delhi Region only.
Q:   What is the opening and closing rank for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering at Delhi Technological University?
A:

The opening and closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For General category under all India quota, opening rank was 2109 and closing rank was 4008. Cut off are differant when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. Admission to B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering in DTU - Delhi Technological University is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam JEE. Applicants are advised to confirm what category are they applying while checking for cut offs.

Q:   Which college is better to pursue BTech in Mechanical Engineering among DTU and NSIT?
A:
As confirmed by a final-year Mechanical undergraduate at DTU-Professors, academics, labs and everything else may be comparable but you aren't going to study all the time. So, when it comes to activities outside the classroom, DTU trumps NSIT easily. Be it curricular fests, sports activities, cultural societies, lenient environment, better infrastructure or even campus as a whole, DTU is far better than NSIT. And taking into consideration the reputation and demand of Mechanical, DTU's Mechanical Engineering stream trumps NSIT's. Even in the field of placements, companies prefer DTU over NSIT for the recruitment of Mechanical Engineering. NSIT needs time to set up its brand when it comes to Mechanicals. '
Q:   How to register for B.Tech in DTU?
A:

DTU offers B.Tech programme to regular, working professionals, and lateral entry candidates. Selection to the regular mode of the programme will be done on the basis of JEE Main rank and JAC Delhi counselling. Candidates who have the JEE Main 2025 AIR can register for JAC counselling for admission to the B.Tech courses offered at DTU. Note that there will be no other mode of admission in DTU B.Tech admission. JAC Delhi is a single online counselling window for admission to B.Tech courses offered by DTU.
