- The UCEED 2026 registration has closed for IIT Bombay admission to the B.Des course, and the exam will be conducted on Jan 18, 2026.

IIT Bombay Admission Overview 2025
IIT Bombay admissions are quite competitive. IIT Bombay comes under top IITs and is also ranked at '3' under the 'Engineering' category in NIRF 2025 rankings. Admission to its flagship BTech programme requires candidates to have a high JEE rank. IIT Bombay offers BTech course in different specialisations and as an integrated programme. Its fee structure is cumulative of various components, such as tuition fees, caution money, and more. Students who get a seat allocated in the counselling have to pay the required fee amount. IIT Bombay BTech tuition fees range from INR 8 Lacs to INR 10 lakh. This range is inclusive of tuition fees for the integrated programme.

To secure seat at IIT Bombay for CSE, students should obtain rank as per the cutoff list. For BTech CSE admission, cutoff was 23 for EWS All India category candidates. Therefore, they should get a rank of 23 or below to secure a seat as per the last round cutoff list.
The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.

Step 1: IIT Bombay Application Process 2025
Students interested in getting admission to IIT Bombay can submit the online application form for the course-specific entrance exam or college, depending on the course they wish to get into.

Step 2: IIT Bombay University Selection Criteria & Release of Merit List
After completion of the registration process, applicants need to go through the course-based entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). Candidates must score equal or above IIT Bombay cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. After the selection rounds are completed, they need to go through the course-wise counselling process for final seat allocation. For BDes admission, aspirants need to pass UCEED exam. For PhD and MBA, merit lists are released on the official website.
Step 3: Counselling
Aspirants need to participate in JoSAA Counselling for BTech. For all other courses, candidates need to participate in the respective entrance-exam counselling for admission.

IIT Bombay admission to all the courses is entrance-based (Except for EMBA, where admission is merit-based and performance in the interview round). The IIT Bombay admission process includes the application process, selection round, cutoff, merit list or counselling and other steps. For BTech, candidates have to clear JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Further for other courses such as MTech, MBA, MSc, BDes, and MDes, aspirants need to clear GATE, CAT, IITJAM, UCEED, and CEED, respectively to qualify for further admission rounds.

IIT Bombay BTech Admission 2025
IIT Bombay BTech is a four-year course divided into eight semesters. The course is offered in multiple specialisations such as Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, etc. Candidates are required to complete Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate in PCM to apply for BTech programme. Candidates are shortlisted for BTech based on JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. Selected aspirants are further required to participate in JoSAA Counselling. Yes, IIT Bombay conducts Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED for admission to MDes programme. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online mode. It is a three-hour exam conducted once in a year. Candidates shortlisted based on CEED rank have to also appear for IDC written test conducted by the institute. The shortlisted aspirants are further require to come for an interview round for final selection.
The total tuition fee for IIT Bombay MDes is INR 1 Lacs as per an unofficial source. Students belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category or a child of institution staff are exempted from paying the tuition fee. There is a concessional and a non-concessional fee for candidates belonging to General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL category. The concessional is offered on tuition fee. Candidates apart from the tuition fee are required to pay examination fee, medical fee, etc. Students not staying in hostel are exempted from the payment of hostel fee.
Apart from the course fee, candidates also have to pay a registration fee of INR 300 for General/ OBC Male and INR 150 for SC/ ST/ PwD and female candidates.
IIT Bombay admission to MDes programme is entrance-based. Candidates have to follow the below steps to get a seat in the MDes programme:
Step 1: Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements have to pay an application fee to register for MDes course.
Step 2: IIT Bombay selects candidates for MDes programme based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Eligible candidates are required to appear for an IDC (written test) and an interview round.
Step 3: After the completion of the selection rounds, IITB releases a final merit list. Selected candidates will then have to appear for the verification of documents in order to complete the admission.

Step 1: Registration
Candidates need to apply online for BDes course with an application fee of INR 3,800 for open and INR 1,900 for reserved category. The common application form will be available through the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal.
Step 2: Selection
The selection to BDes course is based on UCEED rank. A merit list is prepared based on UCEED rank of the candidates.
Step 3: Counselling

The average and median packages offered during IIT Bombay placements 2024 stood at INR 23.5 LPA and INR 17.92 LPA, respectively. The overall placement rate recorded during IIT Bombay placements 2024 was 74.53% with 1,475 students participating in the process out of 1,979 students. A total of 930 students registered, 819 students participated and 683 students were placed durinng BTech placements 2024. The placement percentage went this low because of minimal or no participation in the placement process from over 400 students. Most of them went for higher studies, such as MS / MTech / PhD and MBA courses, while many opted for entrepreneurship or civil services.
