IIT bombay life at a glance.
Placements: The placements were for our senior batch was decent. Almost 100% were placed. They all had the same CTC of 5.5 LPA. The companies that visit in Transportation Systems Engineering are Dar-Al-Handasah, IBI Group, MWH, Louis Berger, Systra, etc. The job profile offered to them is of design consultant or traffic engineer/planning engineer mostly. None of the Transportation students applied for the internships. Yes, there is a dedicated Placement Cell at IIT Bombay for the placement and internship process.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus. The classrooms are well built with an air conditioned facility. Central Library is open with many journals access. IIT Bombay has its own hospital, which is available 24*7 for the students. The sports infrastructure are of world-class with an indoor facility of most of the sports like cricket, volleyball, basketball, badminton, squash. The quality of the labs and classroom are of a high standard. The hostel rooms for UG students are not right. They are ancient and of small size. New hostels are under construction. I did not face any such issues.
Faculty: The teachers at IIT Bombay are highly qualified; most of them are Ph.D. from foreign universities. They have quite immense knowledge in their respective fields. The teacher-student ratio is also good. The teaching methods are a presentation, on green board, as well as online courses like CDEEP. Since most of the professors do consultancy, we get to know the industry exposure through them. They arrange visits to the nearby dams, municipal corporations, construction sites. The course curriculum was useful, but a lot can be added to it like an airport, railway syllabus in transportation systems engineering.
