Candidates seeking admission with a valid Bachelor's degree with 60% aggregate (55% aggregate for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible to apply. IIT Bombay offers a two-year Master of Arts (M.A. ) programme in English, which is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of English language and literature. The programme aims to equip students with critical and analytical skills required to engage with literary texts from various genres and historical periods. The course structure of the M.A. programme in English at IIT Bombay is as follows: First Year: Semester I: Literary Theory and Criticism, British Literature from 14th to 18th century, American Literature, Indian Writing in English Semester II: British Literature from 19th century to Contemporary times, Literary Genres (Poetry, Drama, Novel), Commonwealth Literature, Language and Linguistics Second Year: Semester III: Optional Papers (choose from a range of electives), Indian Aesthetics, Literary and Cultural Studies Semester IV: Dissertation In the first year of the programme, students are introduced to the foundational concepts and theories of literature, along with the history of literature in Britain, America, and India. They also study the different literary genres such as poetry, drama, and novel. In the second year, students have the option to choose from a range of electives, which may include topics such as postcolonial literature, literary translation, feminist literary theory, and contemporary literature. In the final semester, students are required to undertake a research project in the form of a dissertation, which provides them with an opportunity to explore a topic of their interest in-depth and demonstrate their research and analytical skills. Overall, the M.A. programme in English at IIT Bombay is a rigorous and intellectually stimulating programme that prepares students for careers in academia, publishing, media, and other related fields.

The total seat intake for MA by Research is 20. This seat intake is as per the 2022-2023 sanctioned strength. Additionally, the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)/Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)/Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwD).

Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree (BA/ BCom or other degrees) or a four-year BA, BS, BTech or an earlier postgraduate degrees such as MA, MSc, etc. with a minimum of 60% aggregate for GN/ EWS/ OBC (NC) and 55% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD can apply for MA by Research. Aspirants shall keep the documents for verification ready at the time of admission as well.

The HSS department at IITBombay is introducing the Master of Arts by Research (MA. Res) with precisely this emphasis. The faculty members in the department represent diverse areas of expertise and have considerable experience teaching with an emphasis on research skills while accommodating disciplinary crossovers with ease. This is especially important since many of the concerns of the Humanities and Social Sciences requireamulti-disciplinary approach. Our students have been successful both in working at the interfaces of different areas and in transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries in their work. The programme combines course work to build student competence in specific areas, research training, and researchmodules for independent work. Students are expected to carry out a successful programme of research within the duration of the programme. The internal structure of the programme is designed to be quite different from course intensive postgraduate programmes and allows for relative flexibility interms of student backgrounds and prior training

The primary pathway to get into IIT Bombay is qualifying entrance exam. Students who wish to join BTech which is also the flagship course of IITB, need to pass JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. An average students by scoring well in JEE can get a seat in the BTech programme of IIT Bombay. Students must follow the below preparation tips to score well for BTech admission:

• Go through Class 11 and Clasd 12 study materials
• Practice previous year question papers and sample papers
• Go through the syllabus and exam pattern to plan the preparation
• Connect with teachers and seniors of IIT to gain valuable insights

Besides, candidates need to qualify GATE for MTech, IIT JAM for MSc, CAT for MBA and UCEED for BDes programmes.

 

Candidates wishing to get into BTech course of IIT Bombay have to qualify for JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. The selected candidates based on JEE score are allotted seat through JoSAA Counselling. Candidates who have completed Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to apply for JEE Main. BTech course aspirants have to apply through JEE Main by filling out an application form through the National Testing Agency (NTA) official website (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 and INR 800 for girls (general/gen-EWS/OBC (NCL) category). Followed by JEE Main, students have to register for JEE Advanced. For this, candidates have to first login with their JEE Main 2023 application number and password. Further, candidates have to fill out the registration form, upload scanned certificates, and pay the application fee.
