Candidates need not have 75 percent marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Main. As per the official brochure released by the NTA, there is no minimum percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main. The requirement of 75 percent marks need not be associated with appearing in the JEE Main exam.
It is to be understood that 75 percent marks is required for admission to institutes which include NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. Many institutes offer admission at 60% and even less, along with JEE Main. Candidates must clearly understand that the requirement of 75 percent marks in class 12 is only for taking admission in the institutes.
About the JEE Main exam
JEE Main is one of the most competitive and important engineering entrance exams in India and is taken by over 10 to 12 lakh students. It is conducted twice a year in January and April at national level for candidates aspiring to pursue engineering, architecture and planning courses after completing their class 12. The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared JEE Mains 2026 result session 1 on February 16, 2026 while session 2 result was declared on April 20, 2026. The JEE Main result 2026 is declared on its official website - jeemain.nta.nic.in and Shreyas Mishra from Delhi (NCT) range topped the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam this year as he scored 100 percentile. Shreyas Mishra is among the 12 toppers of JEE Main this year who have scored 300 out of 300 marks and have got 100 percentile.
The top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Mains also qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Advanced exam is the only gateway to premier engineering institutions - Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The JEE Main exam consists of three papers - BE/BTech (paper 1), BArch (paper 2a) and BPlan (paper 2b). The questions in the exam are framed from the class 11 and 12 level syllabus prescribed by NTA.
