LPU PhD Eligibility & Highlights 2026
LPU offers PhD for a minimum duration of three years at the doctoral level. The university offers full-time PhD in 42 specialisations. The university conducts a National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST) for its PhD aspirants. Interested candidates meeting the below eligibility can apply for the LPU PhD programme:
- Candidates who have completed a master's degree (two-year/ four semester's degree after a three-year bachelor's degree) or equivalent with an aggregate ranging between 55% and 65% or equivalent grades can apply for PhD programme.
- Aspirants who have passed a one-year/ two-semester master's degree programme with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grades prescribed by UGC after a four-year/eight-semester bachelor's degree can also apply.

LPU PhD fee structure is a combination of several fee components including tuition fee, hostel fees, examinaition fees, caution deposit, and other fees. The LPU PhD tuition fee ranges between INR 3 lakh - INR 7.2 lakh.
The fees for the other components is yet to be revealed by LPU for PhD students. The LPU fees might be charged on either per semester of per annum basis.

LPU does not offer direct admission. However, admission to few courses is merit-based. Aspirants scoring a 65% aggregate have a good chance of getting admission in LPU. Candidates seeking admission must visit the official website of the university to apply online. To apply for LPU, aspirants need to register for LPUNEST for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. LPU admission to most of the courses is based on LPUNEST score. However, national-level entrance exam scores are also accepted for admission to BA LLB (Hons), MBA, BTech, etc. Candidates must complete Class 12 for UG courses and graduation for PG courses. The selection rounds are followed by counselling and document verification.
LPU NEST application form fee for a soft copy of the LPU NEST 2026 Kit is INR 1000 for boys and girls. The printed copy of the LPU NEST Kit is available for INR 1500 for boys and girls. The application fee can be paid online if the application form is filled out online. The application fee can be given as a demand draft if the application form is submitted offline. If the DD is not enclosed or DD is wrongly drawn, the application form will not be accepted. The application fee has to be paid to submit the application form.

Students can get provisional admission and confirm their seats by paying a nominal fees. The nominal fees is INR 10,000. This applies to all courses and would be adjusted against the programme fees of the semester. MSc Agriculture and MA Hindi/ Punjabi are exempted from this case.

Yes, students can get admission in LPU without LPUNEST if they have scores of other accepted exams. The university conducts LPUNEST as both a scholarship and entrance test. Students can instead submit scores of the following exams as well:
- JEE Mains for BTech admission

- CUET-PG for MSc, MCA, etc.

LPU PhD Admission 2026: How to Apply?
The admission cycle begins for PhD admission between October and November. Below are the steps to get admission to PhD course:
Step 1: LPU PhD Application Process 2026
LPU PhD admission to all the above-mentioned specialisations is done through an online mode. Candidates, fulfilling the eligibility criteria, need to apply online through the admission portal of the university. The exam fee for LPUNEST (soft copy of LPUNEST KIT) is INR 1,000 for males and INR 500 for females. The printed LPUNEST Kit is INR 1,500 for boys and INR 1,000 for girls. Step 1.1: Visit the official website of LPU, https://www.lpu.in/, and click on the ' Apply Now' tab at the top of the web page.
Step 1.2: Register on the official admission portal of LPU i.e. LPUADMIT (admission.lpu.in) with basic details such as name, email-id, mobile no., state, gender and password). The email id used during registration will act as the username for the portal and the password needs to be set by the candidate while registering. Candidates can continue to apply for LPUNEST (for scholarship purposes).
Step 1.3: Upload the requisite documents.
Step 1.4: Pay the application fee and hit the submit button to complete the application process.

Step 3: Selection
