B.Tech. in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture - Batch of 2027
3.8
Placements are ok you need to study to get placed good. Infrastructure won't disappoint.
Placements: My branch is Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture. It is one of the lower engineering branches in the college so placements are lower than the college. The average is around 15 LPA, and the highest is around 40 LPA. Out of the batch size of 75 around 40 students get placed on campus.
Infrastructure: The department has some top-notch facilities available which are rare in the entire nation. It has a weave generator along an owing vessel. There is another tank under construction for research purposes. Hostels are not that great but you are going to love them anyway.
Faculty: Faculty members are highly experienced and helpful. Although the teaching quality is above average. I would say due to the lack of participation from the students the teachers tend to lose interest in teaching the batch. The curriculum is good and industry-ready.
Other: The campus remains very active especially in January due to the fests. Hall days, selection, and Illumination are other activities for the student.

Satisfied with the college hostel.
Placements: After the 6th semester, students become eligible for placements. Although many companies come for placement drives, there are very few for my course. However, for CS and ECE, there are many opportunities, as everyone primarily tries for software companies, leading to significant competition. Consequently, sometimes half of the students are not placed. Companies like Mazagon Dock Limited and Cochin Shipyard, among others from Naval and Ocean Engineering, come for placements. Many people prefer to enter the IT sector, pursuing majors and minors in finance and business management. Therefore, companies like Google, Microsoft, Intel, and others hire during the final year and also offer internships. Many companies visit IITKGP due to its extensive alumni network.
Infrastructure: Rooms typically come furnished with a B.Ed desk, chair, wardrobe, and shelving. Some hostels offer options for single, double, or triple occupancy. Rooms are equipped with essential utilities such as electricity, water, and internet connectivity. Many hostels also have air conditioning or eating facilities. Common areas include study rooms, recreational lounges, and laundry facilities. Some hostels also have attached bathrooms or shared bathroom facilities on each floor. Hostels generally provide a mess or dining hall where students can have their meals. The menu is typically diverse, catering to various dietary preferences and restrictions. It often includes a mix of local and international cuisine, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. The registration process usually involves applying online through the institution's portal. It may require the submission of personal details, course information, and payment of a registration fee.
Faculty: In terms of qualification, faculty are highly educated. For each subject, there are at least five professors, according to my knowledge in the first year. They have teaching assistants who help professors interact with a large section of 200 students. Still, sometimes it becomes a less interactive class, and sometimes we can't understand the professor.
Other: We have Kshitij Teach Fest and Springs Fest for cultural events. There are many other festivals like Illumination for Diwali where we can enjoy a lot. The library here is one of the biggest, providing access to a large number of books. There is one sports fest and general championship competition between different hostels. Basically, students run most of the campus activities through clubs.

Absolutely satisfied with the campus, a little disappointed by placements, good facilities.
Placements: In the branch of ocean engineering and naval architecture, there are very few placement opportunities. Some companies offer only M.Tech courses. Most students seek jobs in software and are placed last from our branch, with one student achieving 29 LPA as the highest. Internship opportunities are also very few.
Infrastructure: There is a separate building for the department. There is a big pool for testing the projects. The library is the biggest and is available for all students. The lab equipments are good and in working condition. The hostels are okay, with a maximum of three students allotted per room, and the food here is manageable.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful when approached. They are highly qualified because it is IIT, but the teaching quality is not that good for some because they have knowledge but are not able to convey it properly. Exams are pretty good; some subjects have tough exams that we can't predict. The class tests are also pretty good.
Other: I chose this course because of my rank; I was only able to get this course in IIT. I mainly chose it because of the campus, extracurricular activities, and connectivity. The course would be better with more placement offers.

Review of IIT Kharagpur - Indian Institute of Technology.
Placements: Every year almost 65-70 percent are placed (Even in IITs) in the first phase and in the second phase 60-70 percent are placed of remaining students. So, almost everyone gets placed. The median and average are around 20 LPA and the highest 65 LPA. The data of internships is very unstable year-wise, and there is no reliable data. Most people go for non-core tech jobs.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi, labs, and classrooms are top-notch; they are the best of what you can get in an Indian engineering college (as we all know IITs are funded heavily by the government). The mess food is above average as compared to other colleges but not the best. But definitely more than just edible. Medical and sports facilities are good and free.
Faculty: Our professors are mostly scientists in DRDO and they are national assets. So, I won't comment on their knowledge. Yes, courses are except some. The semester exams happen twice a semester and they are like board exams, much easier than JEE. Pass percentage is 25-30 percent marks.

Overall good college with great people.
Placements: Approximately 75% Students were placed in my course. The highest was 45 LPA, the lowest was 4lpa, and the average was approximately 18 LPA. Maersk, cochin shipyard, Maersk. Internship is a little hard to get from my course even though 10 students managed to get an internship.
Infrastructure: There is free Wi-Fi connectivity everywhere inside the campus. The classrooms are also nice. IIT KGP has one of the most extensive library in Asian. We mostly have double sharing or triple sharing rooms in hostels. Most of the hostels are quite old. The mess food is quite bad.
Faculty: Teachers are quite helpful and knowledgeable, but the teaching quality is not so good, there are a few exceptional teachers but that is a rare case. Yes the course is relevant for the students in the field of naval architecture. The semester exams are easy to pass but to score well u need to work hard. On an average 90% of students pass.
Other: I had interest in ship building and naval architecture.

Our college provides excellent opportunities, the best campus life, and average placements.
Placements: In our college, almost 80% of students are placed every year. Many students go for higher studies or research. The highest salary package offered is 24.5 LPA and the average salary package offered is 11.5 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 2 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Shoft Shipyard, etc., visit our campus. Almost 78% of students get internships at Vedam Design. The top role offered is a marine officer.
Infrastructure: Our department building has 2 floors, and we have 6 classrooms, 3 drawing halls, 1 seminar room, and 1 conference room. Our department lab has a towing tank of 150 meters. This is used to produce waves and for teaching hydrodynamics. We have an underwater vehicle tank. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus. Library and computer labs are available. The quality of food in the hostel is excellent. In the summer, we get coconut water, buttermilk, lemon juice, etc. Every day for lunch, we get chicken and fish once a week, ice cream, chocolates, and other desserts for dinner. Our hostel rooms are maintained for hygiene and cleaned regularly. We have many night canteens available on our campus for the whole night. In the gymkhana, we get all sports facilities, which include an indoor badminton court, a swimming pool, a tennis court, a table tennis court, a squash court, and six gyms, one of which is exclusively for women. We have a sports complex where cricket and football are played. We have another ground for hockey. The hostel has a badminton court, whereas other hostels will have different courts. There are no time restrictions, neither in the hostel nor on campus. You can see students roaming the streets at 3 a.m. and friend groups doing night outs every day. You also see students spending whole nights studying in libraries during exams.
Faculty: Our teachers are knowledgeable. The teaching quality is not good. The course curriculum is good and well-designed. Vacations and holidays are properly planned. Semester exams are difficult, depending on student preparation. If a student studies consistently and attends classes regularly, exams are easy. Academically irregular students are likely to get average grades if they start studying a day before an exam.
Other: I chose this course because it sounded different and interesting. IIT Kharagpur is one of the very few institutes that offer courses in ocean engineering and naval architecture. The course is very good, but the number of students who go for the core is decreasing every year. Many departments have their events, whereas our university has two fests as Springfest cultural fest and Kshitij technical fest. There is unlimited fun and unlimited opportunity.

The largest IIT with campus area of 2200 acres, good quality networks.
Placements: Approximately 80 percent students were placed last year and the rest went abroad for higher studies. The highest package offered was 48 LPA CTC and the median package was 15.5 LPA CTC. Top recruiting companies were Soft Shipyard, Vedam and GRSE. 100% students got internships in companies like microsoft, adobe and upskillz. Top roles offered are Marine Engineer, Design Engineer, Navy Personnel and Ship Manager.
Infrastructure: All the machines and equipments required for effective learning are available in labs. The labs built are spacious and have good students holding capacity. The libraries have almost every books required and new books are also ordered as per the use. The campus has 20 hostels which have good capacity. The food available in the mess and canteen is good in quality. We have a hospital to provide medical facilities in the campus area. The academic also possesses sports and games as its part which have respective credits per semester where information is given for each and every sport. The campus has stadiums and courts and swimming pools. All type of equipments necessary are also available.
Faculty: Teachers have deep knowledge about the subjects they teach. The teaching quality is appreciable. The course curriculum is relevant upto the mark. It enriches the students with various qualities to excel in most of the fields Each semester has to exams - mid sem and end sem and along with it various tests and assignments and projects. The passing CGPA is 5.
Other: I chose this course as I have a deep yearning to learn about naval architecture. The best things about this course is that it gives you much needed information about the naval architecture and also provides ample amount of time to explore other fields as well. I don't think so that there is any thing which is needed to be improved as this course has practically everything an undergraduate student needs. The campus has 2 large fest - Spring Fest and Kshitij. The campus has quality connections. The scholarship offered are very beneficial for middle class as well as meritable students. The campus also has various societies for extra curricular activities like dance, singing, cooking, drama, script writing, photography, video editing, design, etc.

This college is a perfect place to study.
Placements: Almost 100% of the students got placed from our college. The highest salary package offered was 24.5 LPA, while the average salary package offered was 11.5 LPA. Placements in the department core are just good, but not very good. However, we also get placed in navy fields, ONGC company and companies related to shipbuilding and oil refineries. Even many students from our branch get placed in the software field.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facility available here is extremely good. Labs are well-equipped with necessary and more advanced instruments and machines. Even we have a huge model of the ship for better understanding of concepts. The library is huge and helpful. The food available here is good, and its quality is also good. Medical facilities are available for 24x7. Our college has courts for every possible sport that students can expect.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very intelligent and helpful. The qualification of our professors is excellent. They did masters in their field of interests and are brilliant in channelling their knowledge and sharing with us. The course curriculum is much well planned.

You can go for some engineers post in Navy, or if you are interested in some research oriented stuff, you can apply for scientist post. There are many ocean research institutes.
