B.E. in Material Science and Engineering - Batch of 2025
4.8
Our college provides great placements, infrastructure, and facilities.
Placements: Around 40% of students get placed and pursue master's degrees in our college. One of our seniors got placed with a salary package of 15 LPA and three got placed with 10 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 3 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Caterpillar, etc. Most of them got internships. Top roles offered are material tester or material science engineer.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, air-conditioned labs, and classrooms are very good. There is an air-conditioned library that is well-furnished and has all the required books. Hostel facilities are very good and have a very clean mess with separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items. A medical health center is available. There are great opportunities for sports and games.
Faculty: All the faculty members in our college are very knowledgeable and helpful. The course curriculum is relevant and makes students industry ready. It is updated every 5 years. Semester exams are moderate to clear but if students attend classes properly and do some self-study. The pass percentage is 50% and the student percentage is 90%.

A review of College Of Engineering, Guindy.
Placements: At that time, we only had single placement opportunities unlike dual placements in other colleges. But we were happy since everyone would get a 50% higher chance in placements. Both IT and core companies came for placements, but bulk recruitments were done by IT companies, and many students, especially from our group, opted out as they preferred to go for higher studies.
Infrastructure: As an alumnus, I have recently visited the college, and the infrastructure for materials science has developed very well to do all project related testings inside the department, and the labs are on par with labs of industries doing material testing (R&D labs). Library, computer center, Wi-Fi hubs, and other sports facilities are also available.
Faculty: Many knowledgeable faculty members are available for subjects that revolve around new advanced materials and technology such as nanotechnology, and fundamental metallurgical concepts such as heat treatment, Ferrous metallurgy, NDT, and Foundry. The course covers a range of new materials and technology apart from metallurgy.
Other: Techofes, Agni, and Kurukshetra are some of the well-known events conducted at our college. MAT Science organises Krysta and Quanta which are technical events and workshops for students. The campus surroundings are near to nature, and there is less pollution, at least inside the campus.

Review of College of Engineering- Anna University (CEG, Guindy).
Placements: I think our seniors had very good placement offers from mass recruiting and core companies. Placements for our batch are better than the previous batches. Popular companies like Caterpillar recruit freshers with a package of 7 lakhs per annum, and it is definitely worth it.
Infrastructure: The first thing you notice is the red building, it looks majestic with not much rococo. The college is located in the midst of the city, and the environment is one of the best in India. It is like a forest and provides fresh air for the passers-by. Each department has a separate building. The college was established 200 years ago.
Faculty: The courses provided by the college are good. The college has two hundred years of expertise. The course curriculum is perfectly designed. What else is required, grab your seat in this university.

Review of COE and material science department.
Placements: Placements in the college are good. Most of the students get placed in IT. Even core companies preferred to recruit IT and CSC students this year. Students prefer to choose a career in their respective field, and there are no ways to chose our career here. We have to go with the flow, or we have to go for other things like UPSC or GATE and may opt for higher studies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good, and there is a decent atmosphere here. CEG has a huge infrastructure. There are no problems with the infrastructure, but, they are working to improvise a lot more. The college hopes to do something better. This is an esteemed institution, and there is no doubt about that.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are very good. But a few professors have no idea on what they are teaching about and how to do that technically. They have the knowledge, but they are completely lazy. They make students study on their own without giving enough knowledge to even analyse the subject.
Other: All the other activities and events conducted here are awesome. Agni, Kurukshetra, Symposium and all are good to join and enjoy.

The college has proficient faculty members and organised departments.
Placements: Material science and engineering is a relatively new course in CEG. It is a research-oriented course. Many core companies and IT companies recruit students from our campus, and they also provide internships. Ashok Leyland, Caterpillar, and TVS are some of the companies that visit the campus. The placement process is still going on for 2019 batch. Almost 10-12 got placed in core companies and almost 30-35 got placed in IT and other management related companies from a class of 60 students. While some opted for higher studies abroad. There is a placement cell, and it is very helpful. Almost 80% of the students get selected through campus placements. The roles offered are entry-level engineering and management roles.
Infrastructure: Material science and engineering is a relatively new course. We have pretty advanced instruments, and the laboratories are in a developing phase. The college has free high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity. We have a library which is properly maintained. We have a medical centre which is exclusively free for students. We have a huge ground, and numerous sports are being practised here, cricket, hockey, football, handball, and basketball are few to name. We have two gyms available on the campus. We have two canteens on the campus which are extremely hygienic. We have modern classrooms equipped with projects and other electronic gadgets.
Faculty: The faculty members are highly qualified, and almost every one of them has completed their PhDs. They are extremely helpful and provide necessary assistance when needed. They are our go-to people if in case we come across any difficulty. The Anna university course curriculum is a top rated course curriculum in India. It is an updated course curriculum. The industry visits are mandatory during the course. The student to faculty ratio is nearly 5:1.
Other: We host South India's biggest tech-fest Kurukshetra, and also Technofest. We have our department's national level symposium. The campus is at the heart of Chennai. Thus our exposure to other colleges happens on a regular basis. It is also easy for us to go for coaching classes to prepare for competitive exams.

A really good university in Chennai.
Placements: We get a good placements from the info-tech companies like Infosys,TCS etc. We are also allowed to be clubbed with mechanical department students and sit along with them for placements which includes companies like Renault, Ford etc. There are specific companies that look for guys for our department like TVS- Sundaram Clayton etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is the best in Tamil Nadu. It is outstanding, with an ancient building coupled with technology. The hostels are just good for the worth of money. Wifi networks in the college are excellent. The college is in the heart of the city. The canteen is really cheap. You can eat 2 idlis for just Rs. 8. No where else in Chennai can you get food at this rate.
Faculty: The faculty members here are great. They have completed their Ph.D programs from outstanding institutions and been into a lot of research activities. When they narrate about their experience, it's not an ordinary story. It rather motivates us a lot.

It is a very good college.
Placements: Placements were very good. The highest salary package offered was 21 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was 5 LPA. The top recruiting companies were Infosys and TCS. It was one of the oldest colleges in Tamil Nadu.
Infrastructure: The food quality was good. Wi-Fi was available in our hostels. E-library was available. Classrooms were well-maintained. Labs were well-equipped. Canteen was better. The food served in the mess was good. Our campus had greenery all around.
Faculty: Faculty members were very knowledgeable and well-experienced. It was the best college to study engineering courses. Staff members were also helpful in this college.
Other: Our college was the oldest college.

Dissatisfied with the teachers, low placements, and average syllabus.
Placements: The placements for my batch are very poor and even for the seniors as well. The placements are ongoing right now. So I don't know the exact details. There's a government body placement cell called CUIC. I'm not aware of companies that visited our college, as I'm not sitting for placements. The campus is huge.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is not available for the electronics branch. We do have everything. Labs are very poor, and the classrooms are good. Hostels are bad, I think. They do have sports facilities but are not much appreciated because it is a government college, and they are not that supportive.
Faculty: The teachers are egoistic and not friendly with students. If they were, they could've easily interacted with us through studies. Industry exposure is average. The curriculum wasn't useful for me.

The cut-off score varies every year so it all depends on the first day of counselling. It's good to have 195 plus marks.
