It is far better than your thoughts.
Placements: 65 percent of students are placed in my course. The highest package offered is 65lpa and avg is 20LPA. Almost every company recruit Top recruiters are Larsen & Toutou L&T, Tata Projects, Afcons, and Shapoorji Pallonji. Top roles offered are HR, building design and architecture.
Infrastructure: Labs, library, Wi-Fi facility are available, food quality is good in the mess and canteen. The medical facilities and hospital are also available in the college, which also has a sports facility that is very good, as almost all sports grounds are available like cricket, football, squash etc.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful, qualified and knowledgeable as there are the professors in IIT. They also help us in various aspects. This course is relevant for students who want to pursue a job in the core sector. Semester exams are quite hard but not difficult. If you study 1 week before the exam, you will score well.
Other: Events are held almost every 1 to 2 week Asias one of the largest fest alcheringa is also held in our college. Scholarship facilities are available. Extracurricular activities are also done. This is IIT, there is everything that you can imagine.

It is the most prestigious campus in India.
Placements: According to a recent placement report, almost 70 percent of students from civil engineering got placed. The highest package offered is 65 LPA, and the lowest package offered is 6 LPA. The average package offered is 18 LPA. Approximately 65-75 percent of civil engineering students secure internships during their course. Internships are obtained through the institute internship cell, faculty research projects, and off-campus applications. Top recruiting companies that hire students in civil engineering are Tata Projects, Afcons Infrastructure, Shapoorji Pallonji, JSW Infrastructure, Adani Group, and Reliance Infrastructure. The top roles offered to civil engineering students are structural engineer, project engineer, site engineer, planning and design engineer, transportation engineer, geotechnical engineer, and construction manager.
Infrastructure: The civil engineering department at IIT Guwahati is well-equipped with modern infrastructure that supports both academic learning and research activities. The entire campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled, providing high-speed internet access in classrooms, laboratories, hostels, and common areas, which is extremely helpful for research work and software-based learning. Our department consists of various labs like the structural engineering lab, geotechnical engineering lab, transportation engineering lab, environmental engineering lab, hydrology and water resources lab, and surveying lab. Hostels are well-constructed and include study rooms, common rooms, laundry facilities, and 24x7 electricity and water supply. The mess food quality is decent and hygienic.
Faculty: Faculty members at IIT Guwahati are highly qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable. Most professors in the civil engineering department are PhD holders from reputed institutions in India and abroad. They are actively involved in research and consultancy projects. Semester examinations at IIT Guwahati are moderately difficult. They are highly qualified from top universities. Semester exams are easy if we study regularly.
Other: IIT Guwahati has a very vibrant and active campus life. Numerous technical, cultural, sports, and social events are held throughout the year. The campus is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, greenery, hills, lakes, and river views. Students can participate in drama, music, dance, robotics, coding, photography, debating, NSS, and entrepreneurship activities. Although it offers various scholarships and financial assistance schemes.

Great experience overall, with supportive teachers and a lively campus.
Placements: Out of around 93 civil students who registered, about two thirds 66% landed a job. Placements are decent but not 100%. The highest package is 65LPA this is an outlier, usually non core. The lowest package is around 6LPA. The average package is around 18 to19LPA. Big tech & non core companies like Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, etc., and core & infra side such as Larsen & Toubro L&T, Tata Projects, Adani Group, Afcons, NBCC, and HPCL/ONGC., visit the campus. Many civil students actually take non core jobs in tech, finance, and consulting, but core recruiters do come. IITG students together got 230 PPOs pre placement offers from internships. Typical internship companies are Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Tata Projects, Schlumberger, Adani, TVS, HPCL, etc.
Infrastructure: In civil engineering, we have all the labs and classrooms we need, with Wi-Fi and a great library to study from. I live in the Siang hostel. The rooms are decent with LAN and Wi-Fi, and the mess food is okay, with the canteen for variety when we get bored. The campus has a 24/7 medical center, so health is not a worry, and sports facilities are really good. Grounds, courts, gym, and even a swimming pool are available. Overall, its a pretty comfortable place to live and study.
Faculty: Most of the professors in civil are really qualified and quite helpful if you reach out, though, like anywhere, some classes feel more engaging than others. The curriculum itself is solid and covers the basics well, but to be honest, if you really want to feel industry ready, you need to back it up with internships or extra skills outside the classroom. Semester exams are usually on the tougher, concept based side, but they are not impossible. If you study regularly, you can manage fine, and almost everyone passes, probably around 90% or more.
Other: I chose Civil Engineering because I want to become an IES officer in the future. The best part of the course is that it gives a good foundation through labs and projects. I feel could be improved is adding more industry oriented training. Campus life is lively with big fests like Alcheringa and Techniche, a friendly crowd, and a beautiful location by the Brahmapur. The hostels, sports facilities, scholarships, and extracurricular activities make student life comfortable and balanced.

IITG Civil: Great for core careers, need self-learning for industry skills.
Placements: Placements are decent here. Particularly in civil engineering, more than 70% of students got placed. The highest package is 69 LPA whereas the lowest package is 6 LPA offered in the core sector by L&T company. In the core sector, L&T offers packages to a lot of students but you can also apply for tech/product sector jobs. Top recruiters are Google, Microsoft, Flipkart, etc. Very few students got on-campus internships from my course, mostly in tech or product sector. Around 20% of students got on-campus internships. Some got into big companies like Adobe and BCG. Top roles offered are software developer, machine learning expert, data analyst, data scientist, etc.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is amazing when it comes to administrative buildings, academic buildings, libraries, and food courts. Hostels are not so good, most of the hostels are too old. Talking about the mess, food is decent. Canteen food is also so good. Our campus is largest and it has facilities for almost all the sports including cricket, basketball ground, kho-kho, tennis, volleyball, and a gym also. Some of the hostels also have private gym and there is a central gym too. All classrooms are accommodated with air-conditioners, and it has a good Wi-Fi connection. There is Wi-Fi available in all the academic/administrative areas and also in library and labs.
Faculty: The civil engineering program at IIT Guwahati has strong faculty with PhDs from top institutes, though teaching quality varies. Some professors explain concepts well while others expect more self-study. The curriculum covers all core subjects thoroughly but feels slightly outdated for industry needs, so students often learn modern software and practical skills through internships or online courses. Exams are challenging but manageable, with most students passing easily. Scoring above 8 CGPA requires consistent effort since grading follows a relative curve. Overall, it's a good choice if you want a solid technical foundation.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted a solid technical base that could open doors to government sectors. The annual fests Alcheringa for cultural events and Techniche for tech are always highlights. There are plenty of clubs for music, robotics, and startups if you want the campus itself is beautiful but a bit cut off from the city, though buses and auto make it manageable. It is near the Brahmapur River so it has nice view. Scholarships help many students, both merit-based and need-based. I'd briefly say that SC and ST category has 0 tuition fees. Annual income <1lakh -0 tuition feels and annual income between 1-5 lakhs have 33% tuition fees

It is one of the finest campuses. It has satisfactory placements.
Placements: Placements of last year were above average since many companies had a recession. Still, 70% of students get placed. The same goes for internships. About 30-35% of students got internships. The highest package offered was 56 LPA. BPCL hired 6 students last year with an average package of 20 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very impressive. Wi-Fi works in the academic blocks but is not that good in hostels. The hostels offer the best mess food and the quality is also getting better day by day. Many sports clubs are active on the campus and the facilities are also quite good.
Faculty: Faculty members of our department are mostly chill and give good grades irrespective of our attendance. Some teachers are strict in case of attendance but do not fail anybody for having less attendance. Courses are very interesting and the labs too. We can pass exams with good grades if we attend classes daily.
