NTA announced JEE Main 2024 dates. NTA coducted the JEE Main 2024 exam in two sessions. JEE Main 2024 exam date session 1 was January 24 to February 1 while the second session was held from April 4 to 15. CAT exam usually takes place in the month of November. The registration has starts from August and the last date of application is auntil September.

IIT Kanpur accepts JEE Advanced and JEE Main scores for admission to BTech. Admission to all the courses is based on scores obtained in the entrance examinations such as GATE,  JEE3 JAM,  CEED and CAT. Along with UG and PG courses, IIT Kanpur also offers PhD in various specialisations. Selection for the same is done based on GATE scores followed by a Written Test/ Personal Interview conducted by the institute.

Students who want admission to MTech at IIT Kanpur should have a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or must have completed their master's degree in Science with the specified marks. A relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to reserved category candidates. 

The opening and closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For general category under All India, closing rank was 11399 in 2025. Cut off are differant when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. In All India, closing rank for female candidates was 19155. Admission to B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering in IIT Kanpur is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam JEE Advanced. Applicants are advised to confirm what category are they applying while checking for cut offs.

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIT Kanpur has been decreasing in the recent years. In 2022, the closing rank for BTech under General category for all India quota was 4649. In 2023, it decreased to 4344. Likewise, the cut off ranks have changed from 2034 to 2208 for OBC, 1281 to 1139 for SC, 678 to 706 for ST, 762 to 758 for EWS. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech in Biological Science and Bioengineering is 8031 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kanpur.

The IIT Kanpur MSc cutoff 2026 was published for round 1 for various All India categories, including the OBC category. For this category, the round 1 cutoff ranged from 155 to 1134, wherein M.Sc. in Statistics was the most sought-after course.

The total fee for the four-year BS programme of IIT Kanpur is INR 8 lakh. This is inclusive of the one-time admission and caution deposits but is not inclusive of the hostel fee. • After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA and PhD admission. 
• For BTech, MDes, MSc, BSc and MTech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM CEED and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates.
• Additionally, admission to PhD and MS by Research is based on UGC NET/ CSIR NET and other national-level exam scores.
• After the exams, JoSAA, COAP and CCMN Counselling are conducted for seat allotment to BTech, M.Tech and MSc courses. However, a merit list is released by the institute for announcing the names of the candidates shortlisted for certificate, PhD and MS by Research courses followed by a counselling round.
