B.Tech. in Materials Science and Engineering - Batch of 2028
5.0
It has really good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: Around 70% of students get placed in my course of material science and engineering. The average package is around 17 LPA. Prominent recruiters include Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, and Infosys. Internship opportunities are less in this course.
Infrastructure: We have modern classrooms with smart boards, projectors, and comfortable seating. IIT Kanpur has one of the largest technical libraries in India known as PK Kelkar library. We have access to high-speed internet all over the campus. The quality of food in the mess and canteen is amazing.
Faculty: IIT Kanpur has highly qualified faculty members. They are known to be highly knowledgeable and research-driven. Professors here set a very tough exam paper but if we attend the class regularly and listen carefully to the things the professor has taught in the class, it won't be that tough.

A really good campus life with good placement and strong alumni network.
Placements: More than 70% of students are placed in this course. The highest package was 90 LPA, the lowest was 9 LPA, and the average was around 21 LPA. Most of the offers accepted by students are from 15-20 LPA. BNY MELLON, BLITZ, FEDX, AUXOAI, ACCENTURE SOLUTIONS, MASTERCARD, NINE EDUCATION, SVAYA ROBOTICS, NPCI, IXIGO, CARS24, and VEDANTA FPL TECHNOLOGIES are top recruiters for this course. Around 50% of students got internships from the companies mentioned above. The top roles offered are analyst, IT engineer, and senior faculty.
Infrastructure: We got 24/7 high-speed Wi-Fi and clean labs with all the required instruments. Classrooms are fully equipped with air conditioning and smartboards, and we have lecture halls with capacities ranging from 60 to 600. The library is a major attraction and is really vast, containing many books, and it's good for self-study as well. The food available in the hostel is really good, and the medical facilities are also good with all the necessary accessories and an ambulance. Sports facilities are decent with accessories for most sports.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified and helpful and have vast knowledge about the subject. Teaching quality is also good, but for some teachers, the pace is too high to grasp things properly. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes the student industry-ready for that sector of jobs. For first-year semester exams, they are tough, but after that, exams become relatively easy.

Absolutely satisfied with the college and its academics.
Placements: Around 70-80 percent of students get placed. Core sector companies do come, but the salary offered ranges around 8-12 LPA. There are plenty of opportunities in non-core sectors, and you can get into various non-core roles in analytics, IT, and consulting. If you are not too poor, then you can easily get placed.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is just awesome. Although some rooms are small, it's above average. The mess food is okay, if not good. In the first year, you are supposed to study common subjects like physics, engineering mathematics, basic programming, and engineering drawing. In the second year onward, you read your own core subjects.
Faculty: The faculties are mostly good, but some are really bad. Mostly, if you reach out to them for help, they will reply positively. In IITK, the course curriculum is one of the most flexible ones. Around 50 percent of your coursework allows you to choose, and you can take courses from other departments as well.

Review of Material Science Engineering, IIT Kanpur.
Placements: More than 60% of students in my course are placed. The highest package is around 40 Lacs, the lowest package is around 0 to 5 Lacs, and the average package is around 15 Lacs. There aren't many core companies that come for placements at IIT Kanpur, so students often take internships with non-core companies like software, data, and consulting. Few roles are offered in core fields.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, AC, and drinking water are available in classrooms, labs, the library, and department areas. Classrooms have projectors and switchboards. Mess food is good, the canteen is also good, and the quality depends on the hall you live in. There is a health center on campus that provides free medicine and good facilities when we become sick. There are many sports and games available, and you can access all of them.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable, but some are not suited for teaching, so students often rely on reference books or YouTube. The course curriculum is relevant, but I feel some courses are not useful. You need to study extra during free periods to be industry-ready. Professors decide the difficulty level of exams, and the pass percentage in my course is more than acceptable.
Other: I chose this course because I got a better branch in a good college. There aren't many standout features of my course compared to other courses. Labs could be better equipped, and the department building could be improved. There are three fests a year, and there are 1,200 students in a B.Tech first-year batch, so the campus is quite crowded. The surroundings are near the outskirts, and you can see pan parag outside the campus. Scholarships are available based on eligibility. Extracurricular activities include clubs, societies, and fests.

Pros and cons of IIT Kanpur.
Placements: The Students' Placement Office (SPO) of IIT Kanpur is the primary point of contact for the recruiting companies visiting the institute. This year, around 75% of a batch of roughly 85 students from the MSE UG batch were placed. The major companies hiring were Vedanta and JSW Steel for the core profile and firms like American Express, Axxela, and Brain and Co. for the financial analyst profile. The median salary was 1600000 PA (CTC). For the internship drive this year, Vedanta had dominated among the other companies for the core roles.
Infrastructure: There is a strong focus on research and innovation in my department, with labs for SEM, TEM, microscopy and other interdisciplinary centers. All the hostels on campus have basketball courts and volleyball courts with floodlights. The mess food at my hostel (Hall 2) is of good quality and we get fruits like watermelon and mangoes in the summers. There is high-speed Wi-Fi available throughout the campus, with speeds up to 5 GHz.
Faculty: All the faculty members of the institute have pursued their PhDs and postdoctoral research from prestigious universities of the world and they go out of their way to help us navigate our challenges during our time here. The course template is reviewed every ten years and any UG student can opt for interesting electives like machines learning, cryptography, cognitive sciences, etc. The academic flexibility provided to the students here is immense and a student can opt for a branch change not only after their 2nd semester but also after their 3rd or 4th semesters but can do so only once. One can also pursue minor or double major programs in any other department subject to a minimum academic criteria in branches like CSE, EE, Economic Sciences, etc.
Other: I had chosen this programme primarily because of the institute, IIT Kanpur, which is consistently ranked among the top five colleges in the country. The annual cultural fest, Antaragni, is held in the month of October and the technical fest, Techkriti, is one of the most creative fests on technology among the engineering colleges in India and is held in the month of March each year. One thing that the department lags behind is young professors, which I think is primarily because of the relatively remote location of our campus.

College culture is good.
Placements: 75% of the students were placed in my course. The highest package was 55 lakh, the average package was 20 lakh, and the lowest package was 12 lakh. Tata Steel, Microsoft, and Raymond's are the top recruiters. 70% of the students got internships from the course at companies like Tata Steel and Raymond. Core management positions are offered.
Infrastructure: The facilities provided are extremely efficient, as we have separate labs for particular courses and separate buildings for our departments, for example, the TA 211 lab and the TA 212 lab. Wi-Fi provided is wonderful. The labs are clean and the library is also very clean. The facilities in our hostel are average; everything is good except for the laundary system.
Faculty: Teachers are extremely qualified in their fields. They teach with efficient methods and the quality is top-notch. IIT Kanpur is known for its academics. I think the curriculum is okay. And it does make the student industry ready. The exams are quite difficult but it mostly depends on the professors. Pass% is 60%.
Other: It is a very interesting branch. The labs are quite interesting. Everything is good. We have ANTARAGNI our cultural fest and TECHKRITI our technical fest. And the annual sports fest UDGHOSH.

Our college has good infrastructure.
Placements: Almost all students got placed in our college. The average salary package offered is 18 LPA. About 35% of students got internships. Students can apply for off-campus internships. Most of the students got placed in the IT sector. For higher studies, there are a lot of opportunities in our course.
Infrastructure: IIT Kanpur is one of the best colleges in the country in terms of infrastructure and facilities. It provides unlimited Wi-Fi on the whole campus. Its speed is 200 Mbps. Our college provides facilities like a library, a student lounge, etc. Our college is air-conditioned. Hostels are good. The mess menu is managed by the student body, so it changes every month. The quality of the food is good.
Faculty: Most of the professors are Ph.D. holders. They are from foreign universities. Students study by themselves a few days before exams. Professors provide slides and other study materials after the class. Students must be regular to college because our college conduct quizzes every week.
Other: The workload is comparatively less in our course. I opted for this course because it is the best option for me. Our college provides good exposure. If you have an interest in coding, then go for IT jobs.

Our college has the best infrastructure, placements, college life, and culture.
Placements: Placements provided in our college are very good. More than 49 students got placed last year with a salary package of 1 LPA. Every student who appears for placements gets a job unless students want to go for higher studies. Students of every branch get placed with good salary packages. The average salary package is 19 LPA.
Infrastructure: Our campus is very big with almost 1100 acres of land. It has all the academic-related things like the library, lecture halls, tutorial blocks, students lounge, NCL labs, and other labs. There are 13 UG halls such as 1,2,3,4,5,6,12,13. Our college provides high-speed and unlimited Wi-Fi. The average internet speed with LAN is around 400 Mbps. Classrooms are fully equipped with a projector and are air-conditioned. Mess food is good in some halls, especially in hall 5. There is a health center for some emergencies that provides free medicines. Students can play any sport.
Faculty: Some teachers in our college are very helpful and highly qualified. Their teaching quality is up to the mark. They provide lecture notes and assignments. Some courses have marks on attendance. In the first year, there are courses of other branches but in the second year, some branch-related courses are introduced. Students learn about C language, DSA, Probability, and many more placement-related courses.
Other: Our college organises 3 fests such as Antaragini, udghosh, and techkriti. Interhall competitions are organised by every club. Students with above 6 CPI get scholarships. Our campus is about 45 minutes away from Kanpur Central railway station.
