NID Studio Test for M.Des will be conducted on March 08, 2026, for all the candidates who have been shortlisted for Mains Exam. The date for NID Studio Test is March 08, 2026. Candidates must carry the NID Mains Admit card with them to appear for the studio Test. The test will be conducted in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.

Studio Sensitivity Test is the on-the-spot test to check whether you have a solution-providing mindset or not. The ability to ideate, innovate, and execute design solutions within a given timeframe is called Studio Sensitivity Test. It is one of the integral parts of the NID admission process. It has the maximum weightage in NID DAT 2026 UG and PG programmes. NID Studio Test for M.Des carries 40% weightage and the NID interview carries 60% weightage

NID Entrance Exam is conducted in two parts: Prelims and Mains. The highlights of NID DAT Studio Sensitivity Tests are:

Q:   What will be the mode of the NID DAT Studio Test?
A: 

The Studio Test for the M.Des programme will be conducted in offline mode at various NID campuses - NID Bangalore, NID Gandhinagar and NID Ahmedabad. The Studio Test will be conducted programme-wise and the schedule will be released soon.

The details of the campus allotted to the candidate will be mentioned on the NID DAT Mains 2027 admit card.

Q:   Will there be a baggage counter at NID DAT 2027 center?
A: 

No, National Institute of Design may not make any arrangements for a baggage counter. So, candidates must bear this in mind when packing for NID DAT Prelims exam.

It is recommended that candidate only pack bare essentials and not bring unnecessary stuff to exam centre. Also, expensive items like smartphones, jewellery, gadgets, etc., should be better left at home.

 

Q:   What topics will be covered in NID DAT Mains?
A: 

If you qualify for the NID DAT 2027 exam you can appear in the DAT Mains which is the 2nd stage of the two-stage NID admission process.

The DAT Mains exam will include tasks like Model Making, Audio-Visual Exercises, Evolving ideas, Material Manipulation, Importance of body language, Creative thinking, and Doodling. The Studio Test is hands-on test that will be conducted in offline mode.

To prepare for the Studio Test, develop their sketching skills, including line drawing, shadow drawing etc. Practice other stuff mentioned in the syllabus, including doodling, and try to improve their creativity. 

 

Q:   How many NID 2027 Mains exam centres are there?
A: 

NID Mains Exam will consist of Studio Test and Interview. NID Mains exam will be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. 

Dos and Don'ts for Students appearing for NID Studio Sensitivity Test and In Person Sensitivity Test

  • Candidates must bring the NID Mains Admit card 2026 to appear for the NID Studio Sensitivity Test. The exact address and the timings of the Studio Sensitivity Test and the Interview will be mentioned in the Admit Card. No request for rescheduling the dates of the Studio Sensitivity Test will be entertained by NID.
  • Candidates must bring a hard copy of their NID Mains Admit card 2026. They must also carry original photo ID proofs, as mentioned in the Admit Card for the M.Des DAT Mains (Studio Sensitivity Test & Interview).
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to download and print NID Admit Card for the Studio Sensitivity Test. Digital copies of NID Admit card will not be accepted at the NID Studio Sensitivity Test centre.
  • There is no dress code for NID Studio Sensitivity Test given by the National Institute of Design, but candidates are requested to dress modestly. They should avoid chunky jewelry, big logos, and torn/rugged jeans. For an interview, it is advisable to wear formal attire. Indian formal wear for girls is also acceptable.
  • All material will be provided by NID. Candidates cannot carry their own materials. They can carry their pen and pencils.
  • Candidates must appear for NID Studio Sensitivity Test and NID Interview. It is mandatory for the candidates in order to be eligible for the NID final stage of admissions.
  • Candidates must bring the NID Studio Sensitivity Test Admit Card, which bears the seal of the Test Centre for NID Mains Interview.
  • Only candidates will be allowed entry into the NID examination centre. Once the gate is closed after the registration time, no candidate will be allowed entry into the test centre under any circumstances.
  • Parents will not be allowed entry into the NID exam centre. They can wait in the waiting area if any are present at the NID test centre.
  • Appearing for NID DAT Mains/Interview or being shortlisted for the stages of NID DAT 2026 admissions process does not guarantee admissions.
  • NID can add or remove any test centre city and allot a test centre city that may not be the candidate’s preference. A city may have more than one NID test centre.
  • Candidates should keep a track of the events of NID regarding any change, as there is no email or message sent. It is the responsibility of the candidate to check for any updates on the Admissions website.

Q:   Is the NID DAT exam very difficult to crack?
A: 

NID DAT, along with NIFT and UCEED are among the most competitive national-level entrance exams in the country. The fact that there are only 425 seats for the B. Des and 347 seats for the M.Des programme makes it very competitive. But that being said, if the candidate prepares well and with the correct strategy, then the NID DAT exam can be cracked. Among the first things the candidate needs to do is prepare a efficient study timetable get familiar with the syllabus and pattern, and use good books as reference material. 

Q:   How to secure admission at NID?
A: 

Admission to the NIDs is conducted through the NID Entrance Examination. The NID exam has two stages - the candidate first appears in the DAT Prelims. Scores of the NID DAT Prelims are used to then shortlist candidates for DAT Mains. The final merit list for NID DAT 2026 will be prepared by giving weightage to Mains. 

Q:   How can I prepare for the NID DAT Interview?
A: 

The Personal Interview is an component of the NID admission process as it carries around 30 percentage weightage. Candidates who are shortlisted for that Mains has to appear in the Personal Interview along with the Studio Test. Here are some of the important tips to prepare for the interview. Read up on the Fashion Industry don't given one liner answers. You can elaborate a bit without being verbose. The first impression does make a difference, so take note. Don't try to mislead and waste time of the interviewer. This way you have more to lose than gain. NID Studio Test is said to be the hardest. Here, students are asked to prepare a model using the material given. It checks creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills.

Both institutions offer the BDes course but with completely different admission processes. IIT Indore accepts admission based on the UCEED entrance exam, while BITS Pilani considers the NID Entrance exam/ BITSAT exam result.
