UCEED 2017 Exam Analysis by Experts

UCEED 2017 was conducted by IIT Bombay on January 22, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The paper was conducted in the online mode as a computer based test and candidates had to complete the exam in a duration of three hours.

As part of UCEED admission process, candidates qualifying the design entrance exam can apply at the colleges accepting UCEED 2017 scores. After the submission of applications, candidates need to fulfill the admission criteria as prescribed by respective colleges. Thereafter, seats will be allotted to candidates in BDes courses on the basis of their ranks obtained in UCEED exam.

UCEED 2017 Exam Analysis

UCEED section wise pattern and question numbers were according to expectation, just like I mentioned in my latest video on UCEED time management and tips.

UCEED consisted of three sections:

• Section A (NAT) - 20 questions - 4 marks per question - No negative marking
• Sec B (MSQ) - 25 questions - 4 marks per question - No negative marking
• Sec C (MCQ) - 40 questions - 3 marks per question - (-1) negative marking

Students said that the question paper looked easy and almost similar to the 2016 paper except that negative marking was not for all sections just like that happened in previous years. Rather only one section carried negative marking. But when students started attempting the paper, they found it difficult to complete in the stipulated time.

Section A, NAT (Numerical Aptitude Test) went bit lengthy and time consuming while the remaining sections were as usual. Some questions in MSQ (Multiple Selection Questions) section were bit tricky.

UCEED 2017 Exam Topics Analysis

This time several questions from Probability (Mathematics) appeared which was not expected. English questions were tricky and appeared in their usual count out of the 85 questions asked.

Design and Aptitude questions were given priority. Questions from Spatial, Verbal, and Mechanical Ability topics, especially involving images appeared in very good number as expected.

Over all, the question paper gave neither advantage nor disadvantage to almost everyone, as it covered broad topics. Some said they did well in NAT, while others performed well in MSQ and MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) sections. So, the average marking and maximum marks would stay just like in the previous year unless if by chance someone attempted all the sections carefully.

UCEED 2017 Exam Pattern Analysis

Again, this time IIT Bombay proved their excellence in exam pattern setting with the type of questions that they asked, unlike NID Entrance Exam where random questions were asked that did not seem relevant to design. Same happened with today’s CEED exam also in which, as expected, similar questions related to design part were present. To know more about CEED exam pattern, check CEED 2017 exam analysis by experts. Students were fortunate that sketch/design part was not included in UCEED and only computer based questions were given to them to evaluate their design skills.

My suggestion to all the students is to have backup exams like JEE Mains paper I and II, NATA, NIFT Entrance Exam as well as state and central engineering or any other exam so that in case they do not get through UCEED, they will be on safer side of attaining some seats.

It has to be noted that apart from BDes, MDes is also a very good option and if not at UG level, students can opt for PG in design. So staying positive at this time is very important as ranking and scoring in any exam for that matter, depends more or less on one’s luck!
