The KCET exam results are typically announced in the month of May every year. With the announcement of the results for the KCET written exam, the conducting authority KEA releases the list of eligible students for the KCET Counselling Process. This list is prepared on the basis of the candidate’s score in the KCET written examination. The names of the students mentioned in the list will have to appear for the KCET Counselling in order to get their documents verified and block the seats in their choice of college and course.

The KCET 2018 counselling process comprise three steps which include the document verification, registration, option entry and finally seat allotment. In order to get admission into the participating institutes through KCET 2018, the candidates will have to attend the KCET 2018 Counselling Process and qualify all the three steps. The candidates who manage to meet the KCET 2018 cutoff will be allowed to appear for the KCET 2018 Counselling.

Enlisted below is the detailed guide for candidates who qualify for the KCET Counselling.
Step 1 –Registration & Verification of Documents
- The candidates will have to report to their closest Helpline Centre for document verification.
- On successful verification of the documents and issue of verification slip, the candidates can participate in next step which is the option entry.
- The candidates will be issued a verification slip and they were required to verify the printed data on the verification slip and the candidates who completed their verification will be allotted a unique user ID and Password. These credentials are to be preserved for future references.
Documents to be submitted at the time of KCET Counselling
The candidates have to visit the nodal centres along with their original documents accompanied by a set of photocopies of these documents.
After successful verification, the original documents will be returned to the candidates while the photocopies will be retained by the admission committee.
The candidates also had to carry the following documents:
- Copy of KCET Application Form 2018
- KCET Admit Card 2018
- 2 Recent Passport Size Photographs
- Study Certificate Counter signed by the Concerned BEO/DDPI
Step 2 – Choice Filling and Locking
- At this stage the candidates will to lock their choice of college of courses for the final admission as per the availability.
- In order to lock the option entries, the candidates will have to login by entering their CET number.
- On entering the correct details, the category wise, course wise and college wise seat matrix will be flashed on the screen.
- Now the candidates will have to elect their preferred college and course as per their eligibility in the order of their preferences.
- There is no minimum limit to the number of options you enter.
- The options entered by the candidate for the first round will remain same for all the rounds of the seat allocation process.
- The candidates must enter the choices after consulting their parents because once locked, the candidates will not be allowed to change their entries as it will be considered as the final decision.
- The priority of options entered by the candidate will be shown on the option entry module by obtaining the candidate’s credentials.
- The candidate might be allowed to delete or alter the order of higher options only prior to the final submission during the first round of the seat allocation process of the KCET 2018 Counselling.
Step 3 - Seat Allotment of KCET 2018
- The allotment of the seats will be made by KEA in the order of merit and based on the priority of options entered by the candidates.
- The list of the allotted applicants will be published in online mode. The candidates will have to log in with their credentials and download their seat allotment letter.
- It is recommended for the candidates to take the print out of the admission letter and report at their allotted institute and preserve it for future references.

No, students can't get admission in NIT Surathkal BTech with KCET scores. The institute accepts admissions for BTech solely through JEE Main scores. Students have to then appear for the counselling process to get a seat.
