IIT Kharagpur is a well-regarded engineering institute in India. Currently, the college is placed fifth in the engineering discipline in the NIRF 2022 ranking. Engineering, Architecture, Management, Law, and Humanities are the institute's primary areas of instruction and research. IIT Kharagpur offers 117 courses across five disciplines. IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus space of any IIT, with 2,100 students. There are 19 academic departments, 8 multidisciplinary centres/ schools, and 13 schools of excellence on the campus. There are also about 25 major research units and 24 on-campus hostels for students, research scholars, and teachers. The institute's main curriculum is the BTech. The program offers 15 specialisations and has an intake capacity of 818 students. The program costs INR 1.34 Lacs per semester. The fee is only applicable to students in the general category. SC/ ST/ PWD applicants are exempt from paying any fees.

The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property (RGSOIPL) is a well-known Law School of IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur is the only IIT providing Law courses. It provides programs such as - LLB, LLM, and PhD. The institute’s LLB program is accredited by the Bar Council of India.

Placements at IIT Kharagpur

Through career counselling by professional agencies/experts, IIT Kharagpur offers numerous programs to improve soft skills, professional communication, and personality. Students are also helped to prepare professional resumes through resume writing seminars. Experts offer management development programs. The Career Development Centre also aids departments in conducting industry-focused workshops, leadership speeches, lectures, contests, and Curriculum Oriented Career Prospects (COCP) Workshops, as well as specialised speciality areas.

IIT Kharagpur completed Phase 1 of its Placement Drive 2023, receiving a total of 1600 placement offers. INR 2.68 CPA was the highest international CTC offered. There were 45 overseas offers, including 28 from Japan, 9 from Taiwan, 3 from the US, 2 from Singapore, and 3 from other nations. 760 total offers were made on the first day of campus placement in 2023. Furthermore, the students have received eleven huge job offers ranging from INR 1 CPA to INR 2.65 CPA, including two domestic bids nearing INR 1 CPA. IIT Kharagpur received over 800 internship offers from 34 recruiters this year, with over 70 opportunities available. IIT Kharagpur received 16 overseas job offers and a competitive salary package. Apple, Airbus, Alphagrep, Capital One, EXL Services, Google, Graviton, Microsoft, Rubrik, Square Point, and many other organisations participated on day one.

Number of Interview Rounds at IIT Kharagpur

The interview process at IIT Kharagpur consists of the following rounds:

1. Test Round: It includes normal aptitude questions, around the 400-word essay and coding on strings. The candidates are asked to write the actual code or pseudo code or even a logical literature that would briefly state how the code would work.
2. HR Interview Round: The round involves HR questions where they are asked about their recent internships and their skills in R and C .
3. Technical Interview Round: The round involves questions about basic programming, normal aptitude questions and sound knowledge of various projects/internships.

The interview rounds and process varies according to the will of the company.

Topics and Questions Asked during the Interview Process

During the placement interview at IIT Kharagpur, questions such as 'What was the role during an internship opportunity?', 'Various codes in R and their functions', 'Guess the number of burgers sold by McDonald in Kolkata in a day', 'Programming - Generate the first 10 sequences of Fibonacci series' and so on are asked.
