COAP 2026 Dates OUT: Check Counselling and Decision Making Schedule

IIT Roorkee have completed conducting GATE COAP 2026 counselling. This year, a total of 10 counselling rounds were held. Candidates who had registered for the admission counselling were eligible to participate in the GATE counselling. COAP offer admission to IITs and IISc. Incase, any candidate does not want to take admission to IITs then they have an alternate option to participate in CCMT. The CCMT GATE counselling offer admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, etc.

COAP 2026 registration for counselling is now completed. Candidates who have qualified in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering were eligible to participate in the counselling. During GATE counselling, candidates had to provide their GATE scoes, along with academic details, and othe information. 

At the time of choice-filling, candidates had to select their college choices. Based on preferences and GATE scores, candidates were allocated seats for MTech/PhD admission. To understand the minimum cutoff required for IITs, candidates can also refer to GATE admission cutoff for IITs.

Main rounds in COAP

What are main rounds in COAP mean 

During the COAP main round counselling, students have the option to "accept and freeze" or "retain and wait" or "reject and wait." However, the retain and wait option can be used twice on the same offer, usually for the same programme from the same institute. Students must note that if there is no action taken during the deadline, then the offer will be automatically rejected. The COAP round 5 is the final round/decisive round. In this round, only "accept or freeze" or reject option is available. Retain and wait option is not applicable in the additional rounds.

COAP GATE Counselling 2026

The COAP GATE counselling is conducted every year by IITs and IISc on a rotational basis. Students who want to take admission at IITs must register in order to participate in the counselling. In 2025, 23+ IITs participated in the counselling including the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Candidates with a valid GATE scorecard can participate in the counselling process. The process was held online and is mandatory to participate in the admission process.

Additional Rounds 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are independent rounds and each one is treated like a Decisive Round. That is, the candidates will have only 'Accept and Freeze' and 'Reject' options in these rounds. The rounds will depend on the availability of the seats during the counselling rounds. Candidates can check the cutoff of the respective IITs by visiting their official website. Candidates are advised to keep checking the website by logging at COAP portal. 

This year, COAP 2026 will have 5 additional rounds of counselling.
