COAP 2026 Registration: COAP application form submission is now over. The registrations were conducted for students who qualified for the GATE 2026/2025/2024. Candidates had to visit official website- coap2026.iitr.ac.in.

To register for COAP 2026, students had to create an account to generate a COAP ID to participate in counselling process. Details required include GATE registration number, paper code, GATE score, date of birth, etc. 

Through COAP counselling 2026, students are offered admission to IITs, IISc Bengaluru, and PSU jobs as well. The counselling is done as per COAP dates 2026 round-wise. Read below to know more about GATE 2026 COAP counselling

COAP Registration 2026

COAP registration is the first stage of the counselling process. Candidates who have qualified GATE exam can participate in counselling. IITs and IISc conduct COAP counselling on rotational basis. After declaration of GATE results, COAP portal is launched. Interested candidates will have to then register and wait for the decision round to open. Overall, it must be noted that COAP registration is mandatory.

What is COAP Portal?

COAP is a common portal for all the above participating institutions and PSUs. These institutes and PSUs will upload their offers on this portal. Candidates who register at COAP can access admission or job offers where they have applied. 

  • Every candidate must apply to the corresponding PSU or IIT
  • Students must note that it is not an application portal for admissions, students have to apply separately to the respective institute for MTech admission or PSU jobs through GATE scores.
  • Candidates are advised to go through the guidelines and instructions carefully before filling and locking choices at GATE COAP portal.
  • Registration at COAP is mandatory and completely free.
  • When applying, candidates must enter their COAP registration number.

Who Can Register for COAP 2026?

IIT Roorkee closed COAP 2026 registration. The COAP portal allows candidates to apply for MTech at IITs and IISc. To apply, it is mandatory to qualify GATE exam and meet COAP eligibility criteria, which are as follows:

  • Candidate's nationality must be Indian
  • Must have qualified GATE with a valid GATE scorecard
  • If a candidate has more than one scorecard, then students have to provide their best score for GATE COAP counselling

COAP 2026 accepts GATE scorecard of 2026/2025/2024. The GATE result scorecard is valid for three years. Candidates can download their scorecard at GOAPS portal using their enrolment ID and password. Also, one must apply at IIT's website individually for counselling and admission. Students are advised to keep checking the website for updates. The mode of the GATE COAP counselling registration is online. Candidates must note that the COAP is not an application portal. It is an admission portal where candidates must choose their preferred institutes for the MTech programme.

Q:   Who is eligible for GATE COAP?

Candidates who have qualified GATE exam will be eligible for GATE COAP counselling. The counselling offer admission to IITs. The admission counselling registration is online and is done in multiple rounds depending on seat availability.

Q:   Do I need to register in COAP if I am applying for a MS programme / 3 year M.Tech program?
A: 

While COAP is mainly for offering M.Tech admissions (2 years), some MS programme / three years MTech  programme of some institutes, COAP registration may be required. This will be instructed by the admitting  Institute while applying for those programs.

To register at COAP 2026, a candidate must have following data ready:

Candidates who have obtained GATE cutoff marks can register for COAP counselling. It is advised to enter all details correctly. If there is any discrepancy then admissions and seat allotment will not be done for the applicant.

Things to Check Before COAP Counselling 2026

Candidates must consider following things in mind before registering for COAP -

Factors Details
COAP eligibility Candidates who have qualified in GATE 2026/ 2025/ 2024 can apply for COAP. After successful completion of registration at COAP, a candidate will be able to access information on offers made by the participating Institutes. Offers will be uploaded by the participating Institutes / PSU's at COAP and will be tagged with COAP registration numbers.
Must provide active mobile number and email ID COAP registration will only be successful when a candidate completes the log-in procedure with the help of the input received via Email / SMS. 
Valid GATE scorecard Candidates are advised to enter all valid GATE scores, if any, while filling out the application. Otherwise, click on the SUBMIT button to complete the registration process.

The GATE counselling process starts after the announcement of results. The GATE counselling is conducted by COAP and CCMT. The COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) is the counselling portal that offers admission to IITs. 

While CCMT (Centralised Counselling for MTech/M.Arch/M.Plan) is the counselling portal that offers admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.

Candidates must note that there is no registration fee to apply for COAP 2026. Thus, candidates just have to visit official website COAP IITR, and register using their GATE credentials. Candidates must go through the COAP GATE guidelines carefully before applying.

The cutoff is the minimum mark that is required for all candidates to qualify for the exam. IIT Guwahati announced GATE result 2026 on March 19.

Documents Needed for COAP Registration 2026

There is no need to upload any document while registering at COAP. However, candidates might need to upload scanned documents when applying for admission to MTech courses the respective IITs. Candidates have to check guidelines on the official website of respective institutes.

Candidates who are participating in GATE 2026 COAP counselling must go through information brochure carefully. While doing choice filling, applicants must note following instructions below -

  • COAP is a portal where all participating institutes and PSUs will upload their offers in a common window.
  • Registration at portal is completely free.
  • There will be two rounds - main and additional for seat allotment.
  • COAP registration is compulsory and if any candidate has more than one GATE scorecard, then it advised to register using details of highest GATE score. During registration, candidates must provide all valid GATE scorecard card information.

Q:   What is the rank for 40 marks in GATE?
A: 

40 marks in GATE will approximately give a rank between 2000 to 5000 depending on the paper difficulty level and the number of registered candidates in that particular branch.  Obtaining 40 marks is mainly considered average, opening chances to a few new IITs (less popular branches) and NITs.

However, rank for 40 marks in the Graduate Aptitude in Engineering can give a different rank value for different branches and disciplines. For example, 40 marks in GATE CSE can correspond to 9000 to 10000 rank. On the other hand, 40 marks in GATE ME, can correspond to 6000 - 7100 rank. 

Advice to students who secured 40 marks in GATE exam: Better to apply in some state-level colleges or new NITs. 

Q:   What is the total seat intake for M.Tech admission through GATE exam?

There are 20000+ seats for M.Tech admission through GATE including IITs, NITs, and IISc admission. Each IITs have an approximately seat intake of 1000+ seats. On the other hand, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, have around 20000+ seats.

Yes, 65 marks in GATE is considered as good and is expected to correspond to a AIR of 800-1000. Students who secure 65 marks do have good options in getting into IITs and NITs for branches like EE, ME, CE, etc.
