There are many engineering institution that offers M.Tech programs based on GATE rank. MTech without GATE is possible at IITs only if a candidate has an exceptional academic record. Many IITs, such as IIT Patna, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, etc. do accept direct admission to MTech programs. Besides, GATE exam being one of the reputable postgraduate engineering exam many candidates look for alternative options where they can show their skills.

MTech Admission to IITs without GATE Eligibility Criteria

Candidates can get admission to IITs without qualifying GATE. However, there are specific eligibility criteria, that candidates need to meet. IITs like IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, etc. do offer direct admission to MTech without GATE score. Many IITs reserve a limited number of seats for direct admission. Direct Admission to MTech (Higher CGPA Required)

To get direct admission to IITs without GATE score, applicants need to meet the following:

  • Be an IIT Graduate with excellent and consistent CGPA
  • Minimum CGPA/CPI required is 8.0 or above in all semesters
  • Each IIT have a different CGPA or CPI requirement, therefore candidates must go through IIT admission notification carefully.

Note: IITs like IIT Delhi, IIT Bhilai, IIT Mandi, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, accept a CGPA of 8.0. For this, they must be a BTech graduate from an IIT and must have a consistent CGPA in their academics.

Many IITs reserve regular M.Tech seats for candidates funded by their jobs. Such candidates are exempted from taking the GATE entrance test to get admission to M.Tech programs. However, they must meet the following:

  • Candidates must have at least two years of work experience to qualify for this facility.
  • Besides that, the candidates must have two years of employer-granted leave and must be responsible for taking financial assistance for a two-year M.Tech course. 
  • Must provide a two-year study leave agreement or employer approval.

Indian Institute of Technology released GATE cutoff 2026. The IITG GATE 2026 result has been declared. The conducting body releases the exam result and cutoff for all 30 subjects. Admissions to IITs without GATE Scores: Selection Process

Candidates participating in direct admissions to M.Tech without GATE qualification may have to undergo a specific admission process by the respective IIT departments. Candidates will be shortlisted based on respective departments' written tests or interview sessions. A written test will be conducted on GATE-difficulty level to check candidate' s understanding to concepts and fundamentals.

  • First, the respective IIT releases an official notification regarding admission to MTech program without GATE
  • Candidates meeting the eligibility must apply within deadline and wait for the selection or confirmation
  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified with written or interview round
  • The test will be done matching the GATE exam difficulty level
