M.Tech Admissions to IITs without GATE 2025: Eligibility Criteria

While reading the title, the first and foremost doubt that might come to your head is, “Can I get into IITs without taking GATE?” The simple answer is “Yes,” you can, but it comes with some terms and conditions. If you’re lucky enough to tick all the boxes, the door of opportunity is just a step away. 

Q:   Can I join IISc without JEE Main?

A:

IISC Bangalore accepts JEE Main score for BTech admission 2024. The university has different admission criteria as per course requirement. IISc Bangalore offers a four-year BTech in Mathematics and Computing divided into eight semesters. The course is divided into two parts, i.e., Core Courses and Soft Core Courses.

Q:   Can I do M.Tech in IIT Madras without GATE?

A:

For IIT Madras MTech admission, candidates need to qualify GATE entrance exam. IIT Madras only admits GATE-qualified students for this course. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is an online national-level examination conducted for admission to Master of Engineering (ME) and Masters in Technology (MTech) courses, among others. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will conduct the GATE 2024 exam. Candidates seeking admission to IIT Madras M.Tech course must appear for GATE exam which will be held between February 3, 2024 and February 11, 2024. 

Q:   How much rank should I score to get IIT Madras?

A:

IIT Madras BTech cutoff 2024 has been released across multiple specialisations. Based on the Round 1 seat allotment, to get into IIT Madras, the candidates must score between 159 and, 9912 for the General AII India category. In addition to that, For getting into BTech in CSE, the candidates must have a rank upto 159. Also, CSE is the most competitive specialisation at IIT Madras. So, considering the round 1 cutoff, candidates seeking admission to Indian Institute of Technology Madras must secure a maximum rank upto 9912.

Many IITs reserve regular M.Tech seats for candidates funded by their jobs. Such candidates are exempted from taking the GATE 2025 entrance test to get admission to M.Tech programs. However, candidates must have at least two years of work experience to qualify for this facility. IITs, such as IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore, IIT Hyderabad, etc., offer M.Tech admissions without GATE in specific disciplines. In such cases, candidates must have outstanding educational qualifications throughout their academic journey. IIT-B.Tech graduates with a CGPA of 8.0 or above without a GATE score are eligible to apply for IITs. The respective departments will evaluate their applications and performance. 

Q:   Who is eligible for M.Tech in IIT Madras?

A:

For admission to IIT Madras, candidates must pass Class 12 and graduation before applying for the course. As per the minimum eligibility requirements for the course, candidates need a BE/BTech/BArch degree or a master's in Science/Arts with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Qualifications from exams by recognised professional societies are also accepted. Further, candidates will be selected based on a valid GATE score.

Apart from this, candidates who graduated from IITs with BTech degree and having CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) and above are eligible to apply for direct admission without GATE score. In addition, it is also crucial that the applicant hold the relevant documents as a proof of eligibility that has to be submitted at the time of registration and documents verification after gettting admission.

Q:   Who is eligible for IIT Delhi MSc course?

A:

Candidates applying to a MSc course in IIT Delhi must fulfil the required eligibility criteria. Thus, aspirant must hold a valid bachelor's degree in a relevant stream for at least two years (four semesters) and a minimum aggregate of 55% or 5.5 CGPA out of 10. Q:   Who is eligible for M.Tech at IIT Kharagpur?

A:

To be eligible for IIT Kharagpur's Joint MTech/MCP PhD programme, candidates need a BE/BTech/BArch degree or a master's in Science/Arts with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Qualifications from exams by recognised professional societies are also accepted. Applicants must have a valid GATE score relevant to their qualifying discipline, and in the absence of a specific GATE paper, XE/XL/XH papers can be considered. NET-qualified candidates with a fellowship in MA/MSc Economics/Sociology/Geography, having studied Mathematics/Statistics, are eligible for MCP-PhD. A master's in Science requires a 60% or above aggregate (55% for Arts/Social Science subjects). GATE is the accepted entrance exam.

Q:   Can I get into IIT Kharagpur without JEE?

A:

The answer is both yes and no. It is possible to get admission in any IIT without JEE, but in other courses than BTech. A student can enter into IITs via IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test) for MSc, GATE for MTech, via UCEED and CEED for BDes and MDes and via CAT for MBA. So, if the dream is just to enter into IITs, there are various courses one can pursue except for BTech. However, admission to IIT Kharahpur for the flagship BTech programme is subject to a valid score in JEE Main and JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA Counselling. Q:   How much percentage is required for admission to IIT Kharagpur?

A:

The minimum percentage required for admission to IIT Kharagpur is different for different courses. However, IIT Kharagpur admission is completely entrance-based. Students are selected based on various national-level entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, GATE, etc. The below table mentions the minimum percentage required by the students in the last qualifying degree to be eligible for some of the popular IIT KGP courses:
