IITGN Early Admit MTech Programme 2026-27: Highlights
Candidates willing to apply for the programme can check details below -
- GATE Scores are not mandatory
- Candidates with valid GATE score, will be offered a fellowship of INR 15,400 per month and INR 6000 for others.
- Candidates can also choose to appear for GATE for a boost in stipend.
- Travel expenses upto INR 60000 will be offered to students for attending international conferences.
- Selected candidates will have the opportunity to complete their 8th semester of BTech at IITGN, as a visiting student, before joining MTech programme at IIT Gandhinagar.

IIT Gandhinagar MTech Admission 2026 without GATE Scores: Eligibility Criteria
Students who want to apply for MTech in IIT Gandhinagar must fulfil the following eligibility conditions -
- Final year BTech students or equivalent BTech degree from NITs with a CGPA or CPI not less than 8.0 for general and EWS/OBC category, 7.5 for SC/ST/PwD applicants at the end of their third year.
- Final year BTech students or equivalent degree from selected colleges including NITs who are among top 5 rank holders in their departments at the end of the third year for candidates (from General/EWS/OBC categories or top 10 rank holders in departments at the end of their 3rd year for candidates from SC/ST/PwD categories.
- Students studying final year BTech or equivalent in IITs with CGPA/CPI of at least 6.0 in their 3rd year.

How to apply for IIT Gandhinagar MTech 2026
Candidates will have to submit their application form for IIT Gandhinagar MTech programme online. During the filling process, students have to enter their personal and educational qualification details. After submission, candidates will be redirected to the portal homepage, where they can download their IIT Gandhinagar Early MTech form for future reference.
Candidates must note that there is no application fee for the MTech admission process at IIT Gandhinagar.

Qualified candidates have to register at the CCMT portal to participate in the GATE counselling. The counselling process will begin in June/July.
Yes, GATE rank is valid for three years. However, some PSUs might not accept previous year's GATE scorecard. Therefore, it is better to go through guidelines and official notification before applying. If a candidate has more than two GATE scorecard, then they must use the one with best score and rank.
GATE 2026 scorecard will be made available for free download from March 27 to May 31. Later from June 1 to December 31, the scorecard can be downloaded by paying a fee of INR 500. The GATE scorecard 2026 will remain valid till 2029.
Admission Process for IIT Gandhinagar MTech without GATE scores
Candidates will be offered admission at IIT Gandhinagar early MTech based on interview, which is supplemented by a written test (if required). The final selection will be on the basis of academic credentials, written test/interview. Reserved category applicants will be given relaxation in cutoff as per the official norms.
However, at the time of interview, candidates must produce all the documents, such as copies of testimonials, work experience, certificates, research work, etc.

A GATE score of 550 in mechanical engineering will fetch you a rank range of 1500 - 3000. Students with this GATE score range can opt for M.Tech at NIT Calicut, NIT Trichy, etc.
40 marks in GATE will approximately give a rank between 2000 to 5000 depending on the paper difficulty level and the number of registered candidates in that particular branch. Obtaining 40 marks is mainly considered average, opening chances to a few new IITs (less popular branches) and NITs.
However, rank for 40 marks in the Graduate Aptitude in Engineering can give a different rank value for different branches and disciplines. For example, 40 marks in GATE CSE can correspond to 9000 to 10000 rank. On the other hand, 40 marks in GATE ME, can correspond to 6000 - 7100 rank.
Advice to students who secured 40 marks in GATE exam: Better to apply in some state-level colleges or new NITs.
A GATE score of 700 to 800 is mainly required for M.Tech admission at IIT (especially for top IITs). However, the score also depends on the IIT popularity, branch popularity, and other factors. For new IITs, a GATE score of 500 to 600 is mainly required.
