IIT Gandhinagar Early MTech admission: The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar has started registrations for IIT Gandhinagar MTech admission 2026. The MTech admission at IIT Gandhinagar is accepted without GATE scores. Online registrations for “Early Admit MTech program” are available till March 25 (5:00 pm). IITGN Early Admit MTech Programme 2026-27: Highlights

Candidates willing to apply for the programme can check details below -

  • GATE Scores are not mandatory
  • Candidates with valid GATE score, will be offered a fellowship of INR 15,400 per month and INR 6000 for others.
  • Candidates can also choose to appear for GATE for a boost in stipend. 
  • Travel expenses upto INR 60000 will be offered to students for attending international conferences.
  • Selected candidates will have the opportunity to complete their 8th semester of BTech at IITGN, as a visiting student, before joining MTech programme at IIT Gandhinagar.

IIT Gandhinagar MTech Admission 2026 without GATE Scores: Eligibility Criteria

Students who want to apply for MTech in IIT Gandhinagar must fulfil the following eligibility conditions -

  • Final year BTech students or equivalent BTech degree from NITs with a CGPA or CPI not less than 8.0 for general and EWS/OBC category, 7.5 for SC/ST/PwD applicants at the end of their third year. 
  • Final year BTech students or equivalent degree from selected colleges including NITs who are among top 5 rank holders in their departments at the end of the third year for candidates (from General/EWS/OBC categories or top 10 rank holders in departments at the end of their 3rd year for candidates from SC/ST/PwD categories.
  • Students studying final year BTech or equivalent in IITs with CGPA/CPI of at least 6.0 in their 3rd year.

How to apply for IIT Gandhinagar MTech 2026

Candidates will have to submit their application form for IIT Gandhinagar MTech programme online. During the filling process, students have to enter their personal and educational qualification details. After submission, candidates will be redirected to the portal homepage, where they can download their IIT Gandhinagar Early MTech form for future reference. 

Candidates must note that there is no application fee for the MTech admission process at IIT Gandhinagar.

Q:   Can I get IIT with 50 marks in GATE exam?

Yes, with 50 marks in the GATE exam candidates can get admission to few IITs and NITs as well. 

Q:   How much GATE score is required for M.Tech at IIT?
A: 

A GATE score of 700 to 800 is mainly required for M.Tech admission at IIT (especially for top IITs). However, the score also depends on the IIT popularity, branch popularity, and other factors. For new IITs, a GATE score of 500 to 600 is mainly required. 

It is advised to check the past year's GATE cutoff trends before opting for counselling and admission.

Q:   Can I opt for any paper in the GATE two paper combination list?
A: 

No, applicants cannot opt for any paper from the combination list. Candidates can only select from the options provided by the GATE authorities in the GATE 2026 paper combination list. For example, a CS student has the free will to choose from the following set of exam papers: DA, EC, GE, MA, PH, and ST. 

Q:   For how many GATE papers can I apply and how much will I have to pay?
A: 

You can apply for two GATE papers (maximum). While filling out the GATE application form, you need to select the primary and secondary paper. The GATE secondary paper must be from the subject list prescribed by the GATE authorities. Before adding the paper, go through the subject combination list and GATE paper codes. 

Candidates opting for two GATE papers will have to pay double the fees mentioned -

For example,  

  • If a general category candidate is applying for two GATE papers, then he/she has to pay a fee of INR 4000 (during the regular timeline) and INR 5000 (during the extended period).
  • The same applies to the female, SC, ST, and PwD category candidates, INR 2000 (during the regular time period) and INR 3000 (during the extended period).
