What is MHT CET?
Maharashtra Common Entrance Test, also known as MHT CET, is a state-level entrance test to select candidates for admission to undergraduate engineering and pharmacy programs at various colleges throughout Maharashtra. The exam is conducted every year by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell. The difficulty level of MHT CET exam is similar to JEE Mains. The MHT CET exam is conducted separately for PCM Group (BTech) and PCB group (BPharma). Important details related to MHT CET exam is given in the table below.

As per the MHT CET exam information brochure, the difficulty level of MHT CET exam is similar to JEE Mains. Candidates are thus advised to prepare by keeping in mind that the questions in MHT CET will be of the same difficulty level as JEE Main. However, the syllabus of MHT CET is very less in comparison to JEE Main.
The syllabus of MHT CET is not same as JEE Main. As per the information available in MHT CET official website, only a few topics of class 11 are part of the MHT CET syllabus. However, all class 12 topics are covered in MHT CET syllabus. The difficulty level of MHT CET is similar to JEE Mains. MHT CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The CET Cell has specified conditions that every candidate must fulfill to be considered for admission to engineering courses in Maharashtra. The eligibility criteria for MHT CET 2026 is yet to be announced. Candidates can check here the eligibility criteria as per the last year's notification. General Eligibility Conditions
- Candidate must be an Indian citizen
- Candidates must have passed class 12 or appearing in class 12 in 2026
- There is no age limit to apply for MHT CET
- Candidate should have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one subject among Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/Business Studies in class 12
- Candidates must obtain at least 45% marks in class 12. Candidates belonging to the backward class, Economically Weaker Section, and Persons with Disability category should obtain at least 40 % marks in class 12

Admission of Non-Maharashtra Candidates
- Candidates who are not from Maharashtra can appear in MHT CET. Non-Maharashtra candidates also have the option of applying for BTech admission through JEE Main.
- All the conditions of eligibility are same for Maharashtra as well as non-Maharashtra candidates.
- MHT CET reservation policies do not apply to non-Maharashtra candidates.
- Around 85% of seats are reserved for Maharashtra candidates under Home-Sate quota and the remaining 15% are for Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates.
For OCI/PIO/NRI Candidates
- OCI/PIO and NRI candidates are exempted from appearing in MHT CET. Such candidates can apply for admission based on class 12/equivalent exams. Separate counselling is held for OCI/PIO/NRI candidates after the admission process of MHT CET.
Note: Candidates fulfilling any of the following criteria are considered Maharashtra state candidates
- A candidate who is either a domicile of Maharashtra or born in Maharashtra.
- A candidate whose father or mother is domiciled in the State of Maharashtra and holds a Domicile Certificate.
- A candidate whose either of the parents is an employee of the Government of India or a Government of India Undertaking (PSUs) and is posted and reported for duty in Maharashtra State.
- A candidate whose parents are employees or retired employees of the Government of Maharashtra or a Government of Maharashtra Undertaking (PSUs).
- Candidates who have passed the SSC and/or HSC Examination from a disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Area, or Maharashtra, residing in the disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border area, and whose mother tongue is Marathi.
- Candidates belonging to a specific linguistic or religious minority community from the State of Maharashtra, as notified by the Government, can apply for the MHT CET.
Commonly asked questions
There is no minimum qualifying marks in MHT CET exam. Candidates gets all India rank in MHT CET on the basis of the marks they get in the exam. Admission to the institutes is given on the basis of all India rank of candidates. After the release of result, Maharashtra CET Cell releases the merit list which is formulated by considering marks of class 12 and MHT CET and will have All India rank of candidates. The seats will be allotted in institutes based on All India rank.
Yes, other state candidates can apply for MHT CET. However, reservation benefits will not be applicable to them. All institutes have certain number of seats reserved for All India quota. Candidates from outside Maharashtra will be considered for All India quota seats. Candidates from outside Maharashtra will have to appear in JEE Mains exam to be eligible for participating in MHT CET counselling.
Maharashtra CET Cell conducts MHT CET exam only once a year in April/May. The details about exam date and registration process is released in January on the official website.

The MHT CET form will be submitted once the application fee is paid. Candidates need to download and take a printout of their filled application form. The print copy has to be kept safe till the completion of the admission process as it is required at the time of college admission. Step 1: Registration
The candidate must visit the official website to submit the application form. The first step is registration. Registration has to be done by entering a few personal details, a valid email address, and a phone number. The candidate will receive the application form login credentials at the registered email address.
Step 2: Filling Personal and Educational Details
- The candidate should fill their name in the application form exactly as it is mentioned in the Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets.
- The candidate must fill in the required personal details and education details in the application form.
- Candidates should carefully mention PCM or PCB or both while filling out the application form.
- The question paper will be available in English/Hindi/Marathi/Urdu. The candidate should mention the language in which they want to take up the examination while filling out the application form.
Step 3: Uploading Documents
- The candidate should upload his/her photograph and signature in the proper format and size.
- If the candidate has applied for the reserved seat, then the candidate must upload the caste certificate.

Step 4: Application Fee Payment
The application fee can be paid either online or offline. The application form will be automatically submitted after the successful payment of application fees. Candidates will need to download the pdf of the filled application form and keep it safe as it will be required at the time of the admission process. MHT CET Application Form Correction
The Maharashtra State CET Cell will provide the facility to correct/modify the details in MHT CET application form after the completion of application process. To access the MHT CET application form correction window, the candidates have to log into their account using registered email ID and password. After login, the candidates will find three new links under the "important links" Menu for MHT CET form correction.

Change Subject Group: Under the change subject group, the subjects can be changed from PCM to PCB or PCB to PCM.
Add Subject Group: Candidates can also add the subject group PCM or PCB if they missed adding it while filling out the application form. The candidate must pay the application fee along with the late fee for the new subject group added.
Edit My Application Form: Using this link, the candidate can change the name, date of birth, photo, and signature.
Note: In case, the candidate has forgotten the password and cannot access their application for correction, they should click on the link that says “I cannot access my account” in the login page to reset their password.

As per the MHT CET eligibility criteria released by the Maharashtra CET Cell, there is no age limit to apply for MHT CET. Candidates of any age can apply and appear in the MHT CET exam. The only condition is that candidate should have passed/appearing in class 12.
The last date to apply for MHT CET 2026 will be announced once the application form is released. In general, the application form is made available for a period of 2-3 months. MHT CET 2026 Registration will likely start in December last week, 2025. MHT CET application form will be available online on the official website portal.mahacet.org.

The facility to raise objections in MHT CET answer key is opened once the official answer key is released by the CET Cell. Candidates need to login to the official website mahacet.org using their registered email ID and password for raising the objection.
After login, candidates will see the answers to all the questions given and the answer marked by the candidate. If any candidate wish to raise the objection to any official answer, they need to select the respective answer and click on the raise a dispute option. Candidates also have to pay INR 1000 per question as fees for raising the objection.
The facility to raise objections is not provided for the final answer key. Candidates are advised to check thoroughly the provisional answer key and raise objections in the provisional key only, if they have any doubt to the answer provided by the CET Cell. The facility to challenge MHT CET provisional answer key will be open after the CET Cell releases the key. The challenge facility will be open for a period of 2-3 days.

To participate in the MHT CET counselling, candidates need to register online on the official website mahacet.org. At the time of registration, candidates need to fill all the required details in the form and upload the necessary documents. After registration, Maharashtra CET Cell will release a merit list based on MHT CET score and class 12 marks. All the candidate with their name in the merit list will be required to fill choices of colleges for seat allotment. The allotment of seats will be done on the basis of rank in the MHT CET merit list.
Candidates who have not appeared in MHT CET exam can participate in the counselling based on their JEE Main score, if appeared. Candidates who did not appeared either in JEE Main or MHT CET can participate in the counselling based on their class 12 percentage.

A certain number of seats are reserved under Home-State quota and All India quota. All India quota seats are filled on the basis of JEE Main scores while Home-State quota seats are filled on through MHT CET scores. At the end of counselling/seat allotment on the basis of MHT CET and JEE Main, seats that remain vacant are filled on the basis of class 12 marks.
At the time of registration for MHT CET counselling, candidates need to provide the detail of applying for admission on the basis of JEE Main/MHT CET or class 12.

The syllabus of MHT CET consists of all topics of class 12 while only a few topics of class 11 are covered in the CET syllabus.
The syllabus of MHT CET is similar to class 11 and 12 however not all the topics of class 11 are covered in MHT CET. As per the official syllabus released by the Maharashtra CET Cell, only some topics of class 11 are covered in MHT CET and all the topics of class 12 are covered. Students can download the official MHT CET syllabus from Shiksha page or from the CET website.
The MHT CET admit card 2026 will be released around a week before the exams for both PCM and PCB groups. The exact date for the release of hall tickets will be notified in the official website. The Maharashtra CET Cell will release MHT CET hall ticket online on the website mahacet.org. Candidates will need to login to the website to download their admit card.
The MHT CET 2026 exam date for engineering (PCM) and Pharmacy (PCB) groups has not been announced yet. As per the las t year schedule, MHT CET 2026 PCB exam date will fall in April 2nd week and the MHT CET 2026 PCM exam date will tentatively be in last week of April. The MHT CET admit card for PCM and PCB groups will be released tentatively in the first week of April.
