MHT CET 2026 Reservation Criteria: MHT CET is the exam conducted for admission of students to various undergraduate courses in Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy, Architecture and other streams by the colleges in Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Government’s Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell conducts the exam once in every year for admission to different courses.

  • MHT CET 2026 reservation will be as per the Government of Maharashtra's and India's policies
  • All the reservations provided will only apply to candidates who belong to the Maharashtra State. This is subject from time to time to fulfillment of the eligibility criteria stated by the respective authorities

  • Under the Directorate of Technical Education, the state government holds reservation of seats for the state's backward caste and other reserved classes

MHT CET Reservation Details

The percentage of seats reserved for candidates from backward class groups from the state of Maharashtra is as shown below.

Reservations for Women Candidates

In accordance with the provisions of Government Resolution No. (123/2000)/ GEC-1000 / Tech. Edu.-1, dated April 17, 2000, there is a reservation of 30 percent seats for women candidates. There will be no reservation for female candidates who come under the categories of Defense, Persons with Disabilities, and Orphans.

Reservations for Children of Defense Service Personnel

Children of ex-service personnel residing in Maharashtra State are eligible for Five per cent (5 per cent) of an institution's total approved intake, subject to a limit of five (5) seats in each CAP institution. This includes:

  • Children of active service staff (DEF-3) who are transferred to the state of Maharashtra but are not domiciled in the state of Maharashtra.
  • Even those who are not domiciled in the State of Maharashtra but their families are stationed in the State of Maharashtra under the provision of family accommodation retention at the last duty station on grounds of education for children. This is considered if the candidate has appeared and passed the HSC examination from a college or school in the state of Maharashtra.
Q:   What is the minimum qualifying marks for General category candidates in MHT CET?
A:

The general category candidates must score at least 25% of marks in MHT CET. For SC/ ST candidates, on the other hand, minimum qualifying marks required in exam is non-zero score.

Q:   Can a non-Maharashtra candidate apply for MHT CET?
A:

Yes. A candidate who is not from Maharashtra can apply for MHT CET. They can also apply for admission via JEE Main scores.

Q:   How many attempts are there in MHT CET?
A:

In one single year, candidates can attempt MHT CET twice. The session 1 exams are held in April and the session 2 exams in May. candidates can appear in both or just one session. Admisison is based on best score out of both the sessions.

Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD Candidates)

Five per cent (5 per cent) of all CAP institutions' overall approved intake seats are reserved for applicants with a minimum threshold disability of 40 percent.  Given below are the disabilities:

A single merit list of all eligible candidates will be drawn up. The allocation of seats reserved for PwD candidates will be done on an inter-se merit basis.

The candidates who claim reservations under this category must submit the certificates issued from the competent authorities.

PwD Candidates will get no allowances or additional facilities in academic activities other than those offered by the respective universities upon admission to the degree course are provided.

Reservations for EWS Candidates

10 per cent of seats will be reserved for candidates from the EWS. These seats are to be in excess of the sanctioned intake.

Reservations for Orphan Candidates

One per cent (1 per cent) of CAP seats are reserved for Orphan Candidates (with the exclusion of Minority institutions, All India Seats, if any).

How to Apply for Seat Reservation for MHT CET 2026?

  • Students wishing to claim a reservation should fill out the online MHT CET 2026 application form
  • Applicants are required to submit the caste certificates and other valid certificates when filling out the preference form
  • Applicants will not be granted seat reservation if they fail to submit the completed MHT CET 2026 seat reservation form
  • Candidates must send the Caste Certificates and the Caste / Tribe Validity Certificate to apply for MHT CET 2026 seat reservation

Commissioner/ Jr. Commissioner, Tribe Scrutiny Committee of respective Region [Kokan (Thane), Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Amravati, Nagpur, Nandurbar and Gadchiroli] provides the Tribe Validity Certificate to applicants who belong to the Scheduled Tribes.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Executive Magistrate /Metropolitan Magistrate in Maharashtra will provide the certificate that recognizes the caste under a particular backward category.

Q:   I belong to Maharashtra but I have done class 12th from Delhi. Can I take MHT CET exam?
A:
Yes, anyone can give MH-CET paper. You don't have to be a Maharashtra to write this paper. All the best.
Q:   What is 50:50 weightage criteria in MHT CET for BTech admission?
A:

Higher and Technical Education department in the year 2023 announced that 50:50 weightage will be given to CET score and Class 12th marks for admission to undergraduate professional courses in Maharashtra state from the academic session 2023-24. As per this criteria, marks of class 12 and MHT CET will be considered for preparing the merit list in 50:50 ratio. Only those candidates who will have their names in the merit list will be considered for admisison.

Q:   What is the age limit to apply for MHT CET?
A:

As per Maharashtra CET Cell , there is no age limit for candidates applying for the exam. It is must as per MHT CET eligibility criteria that candidates have either passed class 12 exam or they are appearing in class 12 exam.

A. Yes, there is a provision of one percent (1 percent) reservation on CAP seats for orphan candidates (with the exception of Minority institutions, All India Seats, if any).

Q. Are candidates from outside Maharashtra eligible for reservations under the SC category in MHT CET?

A. No, reservations under any category are only for candidates who are from Maharashtra.

Q. What percentage of seats are reserved for all India candidates in private unaided engineering institutes of Maharashtra?

A. 15% of seats are reserved for all India candidates who are applying for admission to private unaided engineering institutes of Maharashtra either through MHT CET 2026 or JEE.

Q. Will there be multiple merit lists in MHT CET for defence service personnel under different categories?

A. No, a single merit list will be prepared under MHT CET for all qualifying candidates under Defence service personnel category.

Q. Do NRI candidates have to appear for MHT CET in order to get admissions into universities in Maharashtra?

A. No, NRI candidates are eligible for direct admission and thus they do not need to sit for MHT CET.

MHT CET 2026 scores are used for Maharashtra State Quota admissions. For All India seats in engineering colleges of Maharashtra, JEE Main scores will be used.
