SSC CGL Preparation 2026: The Staff Selection Commission is expected to release the SSC CGL Notification 2026 on March 31 as per the new calendar released for 2026-27. It will be released on the official website at ssc.gov.in. The exam is expected to be conducted in May or June 2026. Candidates need to start their preparation now those who have not yet started for the SSC CGL exam. The first step of the preparation is to understand the syllabus and exam pattern properly. Candidates are also advised to analyse the previous year question papers to get an idea about the questions, topics asked in the examination.

General Awareness as the name suggests tests the awareness of the candidates about the happening around in the country, and society. The best source to prepare the General Awareness questions is the newspaper.  General Awareness section is the most important section which can make or break the dream of selection in the CGL exam.  It comprises General Knowledge and Current Affairs. The candidates need to prepare the General Knowledge topics in their entirety and along with it the Current Affairs of last one year. in the recent paper, the current affairs of the previous year were asked in the Tier-I exam. SSC CGL DEST Preparation

SSC CGL skill test is conducted to test candidates’ typing or basic computer skills. Here, candidates are either given a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) or a Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). DEST is basically a typing test in which candidates have to type 8,000 key depressions per hour on a computer. In CPT, candidates are judged on three modules – Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Generation of Slides.

The SSC CGL cut off 2025-26 for Tier 2 is expected to be released in March 2026 along wit the final result for Tier 2. The Tier 2 exam was conducted on January 18-19, 2026. It will be released category and post-wise cutoff PDF. It will be released on the official portal at ssc.gov.in.

No. The Tier 1 marks for the SSC CGL are not used in the preparation of the final merit list. The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 exam. However, the final selection and ranking is based on the marks obtained in the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam.

Yes, there is a negative marking in the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam. Candidates need to complete the exam in one hour. 0.50 marks are deducted for each correct answer. Total number of questions asked are 100 and marks provided to each answer is 2 marks. Therefore, total marks are 200.
