National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is also known as NIT Hamirpur. NITH was established in 1986 as one of the thirty-one NITs of the country. NIT Hamirpur was initially set up as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1986, with only two departments - Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering compared to 13 departments and 1 centre at present. NIT Hamirpur is considered to be the second most beautiful campus in India including all Engineering colleges/ institutes. It is spread over 250 acres of area, it was ranked as the best NIT HP in terms of infrastructure by the World Bank in 2007.NIT Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh infrastructure has the following facilities:
- Hostel: NIT Hamirpur is a residential campus with eight boys' hostels and four girls' hostels. These hostels are a combination of triple-seated or four-seated rooms. Some are also are double occupancy as well as single occupancy rooms.
- Healthcare Centre: NIT Hamirpur has its own healthcare centre to meet the basic health needs of students or anyone who is part of the system. The emergency cases are sent to the zonal hospital in Hamirpur.
- Sports Complex: NIT Hamirpur has a sports facility for different indoor and outdoor sports activities. The sports complex has a ground and a courtyard where students can play cricket, football, lawn tennis, volleyball, badminton and more.
- Central Library: NIT Hamirpur has a central library with around 1 lakh books and a plethora of scientific journals, present in both print and electronic media. The central library also has a reading room with the capacity to house 500 students at a time.
- Incubation Cell: In March 2017, NIT Hamirpur entered into an agreement with the Government of Himachal Pradesh to set up an incubation cell at the campus. The incubation cell is set up in the central block building with a designated area of 64.28 sqm.

Further, the location makes it ideal for students to make a weekend trip to scenic places, such as Manali, Dharmshala, and more. All these places are within a few hours of travel. There are also multiple cafés which specialise in various cuisines and have their own signature taste and specialty.
MTech at NIT Hamirpur is two years long. The M.Tech programme follows the semester model, which means that each year of the programme is divided into two semesters in each year. Therefore, candidates have to pass four semesters of the programme to be eligible for an M.Tech degree. At the time of admission, candidates will have to choose the desired specialisation that they want to take admission in. If candidates have not completed their graduation they can get into an integrated M.Tech programme which is five years long.
