Biological Anthropology is a scientific discipline which studies the biological and behavioural aspects of a human being. Also known as Physical Anthropology, the study deals with aspects such as extinct hominin ancestors and related non-human primates, basically from an evolutionary perspective. The study of Biological Anthropology goes back to the time of Charles Darwin, where Anthropologists trace the intellectual genealogy and the culture back to physical anthropology’s beginnings. One also gets to study how human beings were classified, which dated back to Ancient Greece.

The study is quite fascinating as one grasps how humans evolved from earlier life forms, the primates. They study the evolution of mankind in the making, the apes and the prosimians. Biological Anthropologists use techniques of Archaeology to find remains of skeletons of our ancestors from the distant past. The study comes under subjects such as Anthropology, Anatomy, Biology, Human Biology, Zoology and departments of Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.
