Updated on Sep 2, 2024 03:59 IST

Geomatics is an applied science and a discipline that involves an approach to the measurement, analysis, management, and display of special data, geographic data, or geographic information. In this discipline, tools and services are required to collect the integration of geographical data, which includes geomatics engineering and is also related to geospatial science. People who study Geomatics, generally pursue a career to become a Geomatics officer or researcher who is involved in designing, conducting, and managing activities that are related to surveys, geography, land development, and planning.

Admission to Geomatics courses requires students to have 50 per cent aggregate marks in 10+2 or graduation. The course can be pursued at undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate, and diploma levels. Also, students have the option to pursue Online courses in Geomatics from several online learning platforms like Udemy, edX, and Coursera. The cost of Geomatics courses ranges from INR 20000 to INR 1 lakh.

Q:   Why there are not many colleges offering Geomatics courses in India?

A:

There are not many colleges offering Geomatics courses in India due to several reasons. The field of Geomatics is in its nascent stage. It is an interdisciplinary field encompassing concepts of Science and Humanities. This reduces the number of experts in the field contributing to lesser number of doctorates in Geomatics. This impacts the availability of faculty for Geomatic courses. However, in the years to come Geomatics may gain significance as a specialisation in Engineering courses. This can lead to an increase in the number of colleges offering the course.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of JEE Mains?

A:
JEE Main consists of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical value answer (NAV) type questions and total duration of exam is 3 hours. JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) consists of 90 questions, 30 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 30, 20 are MCQs and 10 are NAV. Students need to answer only 5 out of 10 NAV questions. JEE Main paper 2A for B.Arch consists of 82 questions of which 30 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from Drawing. In Paper 2B for B. Plan total questions are 105 of which 30 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 25 from Planning.

Q:   What is the importance of JEE Mains exam?

A:
JEE Mains grant admission into NITs and other government colleges where quality education is provided with good opportunities for placements and these colleges are cost-effective as well. Further, if you are planning to get into IITs, then first you need to clear JEE Mains followed by JEE Advanced. This is why JEE Mains is important. I hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions, kindly revert.

Q:   What is JEE Advanced?

A:
JEE means joint entrance exam which is a test conducted by IITs and ISC Bangalore for getting admission in B.Tech and Integrated MSc in various institutes of the country. This exam are in two phase one is called JEE pre or screening and second is called JEE advance. Once you will clear first phase than you have to qualify for second level I.e. jee advance.

Q:   What is the significance of JEE-advanced?

A:
JEE Mains is for those candidates who wish to get into BE or B.Tech courses in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and engineering colleges of the participating states. The JEE Mains is also the eligibility test that allows students to give the JEE Advanced exam which eventually leads to admission in either the IITs or the Indian School of Mines (ISM).

Q:   What is the difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced?

A:
JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are two different engineering entrance exams. JEE Mains is conducted just after 12th Boards in the month of April. Clearing Mains, you can get a rank and admission into the NITs (National Institute of Technology), IIITs, and various other colleges like Amity. Many private colleges admit students through the Mains score too. JEE Mains paper 1 has 90 MCQ Single Correct Option questions. 30 each from Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Marking Scheme is +4, -1. And full marks in 360. JEE Mains paper 2 is only for those interested in Architecture and is not for B.Tech admission, but B.Arch admissions. Clearing the cutoff in Mains paper 1 will make you eligible for JEE Advanced exam. Clearing JEE Advanced and getting a decent rank will land you in IITs. It is conducted in the month of May. JEE Advanced has 2 papers of 3 hours each. The full marks, marking scheme, question pattern everything varies every year (in 2016 full marks was 372 while in 2015 it was 504). The level of questions in JEE Advanced is higher than that of Mains and it has Multiple correct option type, integers, matrix and paragraph questions. JEE Mains tests your memory and basic concepts while Advanced tests your core concepts. Every year 12+ lac students appear for Mains and only 1.52 lac students qualify for Advanced. (Given that you are serious in your preparation, getting a decent rank in Mains and qualifying for Advanced is easy, so don't think that getting in top 2 lac will be difficult). From the question, I assume that you are a school student. Good luck. Thank you.

Q:   What is the scope in urban planning and urban designing in India?

A:
I would say that urban design is at a very nascent stage currently in India. Not much opportunities are available in India for core urban design projects. This field is very well defined and well developed in USA, Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. However, slowly people in India are realizing the importance of urban design. Large masterplans of new cities or even large townships aspire to have some elements of urban design to make themselves more meaningful and relevant. Learnings from western countries are creating an impact. As far as employment goes, currently you won't have much role as a core urban designer. Very few private firms in India are doing urban design work. Large master plans at government bodies are done by planners. But recently government bodies have started to employ urban designer for their projects. Recently, Pune municipal corporation had opened vacancies for urban designers to work on street design of Pune. Therefore, you may have chance of working at any government organisation or some of the private firms who are doing urban design work or you may continue to work as an architect/urban designer. You can also take up some research projects as urban designer with some think tanks in the metropolitan cities or even independently. But no doubt, doing Masters in urban design will add tremendous knowledge to yourself.

Q:   What is the procedure to get a job in ISRO?
