Social Geography is a branch of Geography that is dedicated to Human Geography and closely related to social theory in general and Sociology in particular. Social Geography can be considered a field that has been created by numerous scholars who have studied the field for over 100 years. Social Geography studies the methodological, theoretical, and topical diversity which has led to the inception of Social Geography. Along with the physical attributes, Social Geography studies the population, its traditions, its communities, cultures, diversity in a geographical area, and how society has progressed over the years.

The study of Social Geography originated in France and came into consideration during Second World II when the framework of Social Geography was developed, which lead to a concentration on descriptive rural and regional geography. Major development, however, took place from examining major development phases of Anthropology and empirical research under specific spatial aspects. Till 1945, Social Geography was majorly concerned with the identification of different regions, and patterns of social phenomena and has gradually made its way to study the population as organized in settlements, particularly urban and rural settlements.
