Government Law Colleges
Four government colleges take KLEE scores, and they are the first choice for most applicants because the fees are low and the closing ranks are tight. Each college runs only one 5-year programme, so the stream you want largely decides where you apply. Between them they have 360 five-year seats and 461 three-year seats.

Who can apply for Klee Colleges?
For the 5-year LLB you need a pass in Class 12 from a recognised board. For the 3-year LLB you need a bachelor's degree in any stream, and final-year students are allowed to apply. In both cases the minimum marks are 45 per cent for General candidates, 42 per cent for SEBC and 40 per cent for SC and ST. The LLM needs an LLB degree. All applicants applying for klee accepting colleges must be Indian citizens, but only those of Kerala origin can claim reservation or fee concessions.
The Exam Pattern for Klee
The LLB paper is the same length for both courses: 120 multiple-choice questions in two hours, worth 360 marks. A correct answer earns 3 marks, a wrong one costs 1, and a skipped question scores nothing. The sections are General English, General Knowledge, Arithmetic and Mental Ability, and Aptitude for Legal Studies. The 3-year paper is generally pitched at graduate level, so it is a little harder.
To be considered for allotment at all, General and SEBC candidates need at least 10 per cent of the total marks, and SC and ST candidates need 5 per cent. If two candidates tie, CEE looks at the Aptitude for Legal Studies score first, then English, and finally age.
The LLM paper works differently. It has 200 questions in two parts, covering subjects such as Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, the Law of Crimes, Company Law and Public International Law.
How Admission Works for Klee Colleges?
Admission is centralised, so you don't apply to colleges one by one. After the rank list is out, candidates register their college and course options in order of preference. CEE then allots seats using rank, reservation category and those preferences, and students report to the allotted college with documents and the fee.
In 2026, the 3-year LLB provisional list came out on 13 August and the 5-year list on 15 August. The first-phase final lists followed on 17 August. Vacant seats were filled in later rounds, and the option window for the second stray-vacancy round closed on 22 October.
Seats are reserved as follows: 60 per cent on state merit, 30 per cent for SEBC, 8 per cent for SC, 2 per cent for ST and 5 per cent for persons with disabilities.
In the 2027, this is expected to be in the same timeline. So keep following the website for the latest news and updates.
What is the Admission Cost?
The gap between government and private colleges is huge. The fee is about ₹9,880 for Government Law College, Ernakulam. At private colleges, figures for the full programme run from roughly ₹1 lakh at Mar Ivanios (B.Com LLB) to about ₹2.7 lakh at Mar Gregorios (BBA LLB) and ₹6 lakh at Bharata Mata (BBA LLB Hons). These are indicative figures, so it is worth checking with the college before paying anything.
Placement data is patchy across the state. Bharata Mata reports an average package of ₹5 lakh and a highest of ₹9 lakh. For most other colleges there are no figures worth quoting, and graduates tend to go into litigation, judicial service preparation or in-house legal work.
Choosing a College
Rank decides the first cut, but check three things before you fill in your options. The college should be approved by the Bar Council of India and affiliated to a recognised university, which in Kerala usually means MG University, Calicut University or Kerala University. The stream matters too, since BA LLB, BBA LLB and B.Com LLB share the same legal core but differ in the other subjects. And location counts, because a cheaper college near home can work out better than a famous one that needs hostel fees.
