NIT Srinagar has taken the decision to temporarily close its campus, requiring all students to vacate the premises and hostel facilities by 10 am tomorrow, December 1, 2023

Amid the early onset of winter in Jammu and Kashmir, the higher education department has mandated colleges to transition to online classes to mitigate challenges faced by students in commuting to educational institutions. This directive follows a protest that erupted at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, incited by an alleged blasphemous social media post by a non-local student.

NIT Srinagar has taken the decision to temporarily close its campus, requiring all students to vacate the premises and hostel facilities by 10 am tomorrow, December 1, 2023, as specified in the notice issued by the Dean of Students Welfare.

Additionally, in response to the adverse weather conditions affecting commuting and inadequate heating arrangements, the J&K Higher Education Department has instructed Government Degree Colleges of Kashmir Division to shift to online classes from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023, or until the announcement of winter vacations, whichever occurs earlier.

The directive emphasizes the commitment to uninterrupted academic progress and stipulates that faculty members will conduct classes online from the colleges to ensure completion of syllabi as per the academic calendar. Furthermore, internal and semester-end examinations will proceed as scheduled by the universities or institutions.

The controversy at NIT Srinagar arose following the circulation of an alleged blasphemous post by a non-local student on social media, sparking widespread protests within the institute as students demanded appropriate action be taken against the student involved.
