IAS Toppers 2020 finally got the official confirmation regarding the allotment to the services. Along with the service allocations, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) released the category wise vacancies of IAS in the states. The cadre allocation follows the insider and outsider roster system. It is the second last step in the whole IAS exam process and after it the candidates will be allotted to the state cadres.

The selected candidates will be allotted to the state based on the combination of insider and outsider roster, the category needs to be filled and the category of the candidate. Along with the category, the choice given by the candidates will also play its role in the final allocation of the state cadre.

It is most likely that the IAS topper Pradeep Singh will not get the Home Cadre that is Haryana Cadre because Pradeep Singh belongs to General Category and there is no insider vacancy in the unreserved category in the state this year.

It is the first iteration service allocation list. 1st iteration means the list is prepared for the first time. In the list, there will be various candidates who will be in the same service, so they will not join the same services again and hence the 2nd iteration will be required. In the second iteration list, the low-rank candidates’ services will be upgraded to the new services. The last General category candidate who got IAS is the all India rank 74 Katta Ravi Teja.

The DoPT released the state list showing the total number of vacancies of IAS, the number of insider and outsider candidates and the categories which need to be filled with the insider and outsider. The insider and outsider roster is followed inside the categories as well.

The highest number of vacancies of IAS is in Uttar Pradesh (16) and the lowest is in Sikkim (1). These vacancies will be further divided into insider and outsider. For example, for Uttar Pradesh, four vacancies will be filled from insider candidates and twelve will be filled from outsider candidates. Insider means the candidates belonging to Uttar Pradesh itself and an outsider means the candidates belonging to other states.

The total of five unreserved category candidates will be allocated to the state, but unfortunately, there is no insider vacancy in the unreserved category. It means the unreserved candidates selected from the state cannot be allotted to the state because all the unreserved category vacancies will be filled by outsiders.
In the same way, for Other Backward Classes category, the number of vacancies is five, but here also there is no insider vacancy for the OBC candidate. All the OBC vacancies will be filled from the outsider candidates.

The DoPT also released the list of candidates whose candidature are still provisional and the candidature of the IAS topper Pradeep Singh (rank 1) is also provisional till date.
