What Makes a CUET Subject High Scoring?

Many factors are considered before determining which subject is high scoring. According to CUET exam pattern, there are three sections in Common University Entrance Test. These are Section 1 (Language), Section II (Domain Specific) and Section 3 (General Aptitude Test). Although all 37 subjects of these sections are important, some of them give an opportunity to candidates to maximize their scores. Check below to know what factors define a subject as ‘high scoring’:

  1. Subjects with same pattern are high scoring as it is easy to predict the types of questions to be asked in the exam.
  2. Subjects like History, Geography, etc., which have more theoretical topics to cover, are high scoring as they involve remembering definitions, dates, events, and so on. Such subjects have direct question which does not require any application-based understanding.
  3. CUET subjects whose syllabus overlaps with that of NCERT curriculum are also high scoring, as students have already covered most of the CUET syllabus during Class 12 Boards preparation.
  4. Certain subjects are less opted for by candidates. Such subjects provide an opportunity to students, as it gives them an advantage during CUET score normalization.

High Scoring Subjects for CUET Science

Below are CUET science subjects that can be high scoring for students:

  • Physics can prove to be high scoring for students who have a strong hold on the basic concepts of the subject and have covered NCERT completely. With more practice of applying formulas to application-based questions and deep knowledge of physical principles will act as an advantage to get good marks.
  • Chemistry can be high scoring if a candidate knows the chemical reactions, remembers the periodic table and formulas, and has an understanding of implementing basic principles.
  • Biology is important for students planning to make a career in medical science or life science. If a student manages to learn biological processes, understand definitions and remember diagrams on D-day, it is easy to score high in this exam.
  • Mathematics is one of the most opted and highest-scoring subjects for science students. Although it is not possible to score high in this subject due to its numerical difficulty, conceptual depth and time-consuming problems, students must have a deep understanding of the concepts and practice regularly to score well.

All these subjects come under the top 10 subjects selected by students in CUET exam in the past years.

High Scoring Subjects for CUET Commerce

Commerce students can check below to get high scoring CUET commerce subjects:

  • Accountancy is one of the high scoring subjects for students from commerce stream. To get maximum marks in this subject, they must practice questions based on journal entries, balance sheet, financial statements and BRS. Additionally, memorizing the formats of financial statements of a company and formulas for ratios, partner sharing ratio, shares & debentures, etc., also increases chances of a better score.
  • Business Studies is another highest scoring subject of CUET. If a student knows definitions, concepts and differences, scoring a competitive score in this exam is possible. However, students usually face problems in answering case studies in Business Studies. To overcome this, more and more practice of case studies from all chapters can be beneficial.
  • Economics is also a high scoring subject for commerce students. This year, NTA has added Indian Economic Development to its syllabus, which increases a candidate’s chances of scoring high marks, as the ratio of theoretical questions may increase. For Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, understand the basic concepts like consumer equilibrium, budget, fiscal policies, supply and demand, different forms of market, etc.; focus on practical knowledge of national income, cost and revenue, money creation and multiplier, and so on; and understand reading graphs and diagrams of demand, supply, cost, revenue, profit maximization, equilibrium, etc.

Apart from these subjects, students who have Mathematics in Class 12 must also opt for the subject if required by their target course to increase their overall score.

High Scoring Subjects for CUET Arts/Humanities

Arts and Humanities students must focus on the following high scoring subjects in CUET:

  • English is the most selected CUET UG subject and a mandatory subject for many courses at CUET colleges. To maximize score in CUET English 2026, a student must religiously focus on mastering the grammar topics and answering reading comprehension questions with accuracy and minimum time. Students mostly lose their time in answering RCs. To avoid such an issue, practice more and more. Apart from these, vocabulary is most important for the English exam. To do well in vocabulary questions, learn new words daily and prepare flashcards for revision. Instead of rote memorization, learn root words and how to identify the meaning of a word using them.
  • History can be a high scoring subject for a candidate, if his/her power of remembering dates, events and other important facts is strong. Without this, it becomes difficult to score high marks in CUET History exam.
  • Political Science is one of the top 10 subjects of CUET. A student with a clear understanding of the concepts and theoretical knowledge of the topics has high chances of attaining a competitive score in the exam. More and more practice and solving mock tests can also be advantageous.
  • Geography can be a high scoring subject for a student if he/she has a deep understanding of the geographic definitions, know how to read a map, remember locations, and have practiced well for the exam.

CUET General Test

General Aptitude Test can be opted by students from Science, Commerce and Arts stream. GAT is also one of the highest scoring subjects of CUET UG exam. Though it is difficult to score high marks in this subject, to maximize score is CUET GAT 2026, students must first focus on logical reasoning, improve their quantitative ability, and stay updated with static GK and current happenings around the world.
